My sister and I want to leave but are afraid of getting stuck in traffic. I think I'd rather be in a closet in my boarded up house than in a car on the highway when Ivan hits. I am NOT thrilled about this. We have 5 kids between the 2 of us. Wish we were rich and could just get 12 plane tickets to anywhere!

Yes, I agree. ALL of the gas stations had lines and lines at every pump. The $5.00 or 5 gallon limit rumor, depending which one you heard, started early in the day and spread like wild fire.

This storm seems to have awakened everyone. I guess after two big storms people start to pay attention. I still think Ivan will continue to head in a more westerly direction and hit the panhandle, which I really don't want to happen either.

This storm is making everyone very nervous. It's not a good feeling. I think the anticipation is worse than the storm itself.

Thanks to everyone giving well wishes!

I finally got power back about 2 hours ago thank goodness, but I suspect before Ivan leaves us alone I will be without again.

I have thought many times over the past week about those who have it so much worse than i do and I feel very deeply for them but it's very hard to keep your cool when you are sweating your butt off in the house and cannot get even a good hours worth of sleep at a time.

Keep those good thoughts and prayers coming!!

First of all, thoughts and prayers are with you - and all Floridians - in regards to Ivan.. I can't even believe that Florida is being threatened by yet another hurricane!

I had been wondering what it was like down there - with all of the rain, humidity and no a/c due to power loss - and I think we got a "small" taste of it up here yesterday.. The weatherman said that our weather was caused by the remnants of Frances and it was SOOOOO humid it was unbelievable.. Several times throughout the day it got very windy and we had torrential downpours.. It was a really "odd" day - because temperature-wise it shouldn't have felt warm at all - but it was downright stifling during the periods of time when I was outside.. I can't even imagine how people in Florida are managing without a/c, fans, ice, water...

Let's all hope and pray that Ivan veers away to sea and there will be NO MORE HURRICANES for Florida - or anywhere in the US - this year!!!!!!!!

Ivan is now on the verge of becoming a Cat V hurricane again.
Its wind speed is now 155. At 156 its officially a V.

Jamaica is about to get pounded badly unless Ivan shifts to the west

Also, Steve Lyons just gave a very good explaination of the difficulty the NHC has in accurately forecasting the landfall position for Ivan.

As the storm moves into the lower Gulf, and travels north, the cone of possible landfall will narrow to about 60 miles wide, when the hurricane is at the bottom of the peninsula. But the amount of coastline that the cone threatens is 330 miles long, stretching from about the Appalacicola area to the southern tip of the west coast.

And in this video he explains the two weather features that are "steering" Ivan.

Gov. Bush actually came on TV to say this was a rumor. He said there is more gas available then during the last two storms.
How is the gas in the Miami/Sunrise area?
My husband has to drive over to work the Dolphin's game, then drive back to board up teh house. I'm hoping he can refill after he gets there.
