Gas is quickly running out. No limits yet. You can tell everyone around you is worried. Traffic is really slow. Takes me an hour to get home from work. (usaual time 30min)

For sure there will be school closings.

Supermarkets ( publix) are running low on everything.

Home depot is too.

I know everyone is very worried. There is no sense in rushing or panic. Keep calm (somehow).

We made it through Andrew (92) we can make it through this one.

After everything is done thats when the real work starts the cleaning up.

May God Bless us all. Stay safe
:scared1: :faint:

Holly was on I4 earlier and she saw MANY trucks loaded with plywood and just as many Publix trucks. I think they are scrambling to restock and OVERstock before Ivan makes up his mind.

Unfortunately, for my community here in South Tampa, if the storm travels up the Florida peninsula, even if it just hugs the coast and the eye doesn't come ashore, we will have a potentially catastrophic storm surge. I just looked at the SLOSH models and the storm surge for a Cat III is 12 to 20 feet.

For a Cat IV hurricane, they'll have to evacuate the entire south Tampa peninsula! We're in Evactuation Zone A, so we have to leave home even for a Cat I.

I've just been out gathering our supplies and it's a total zoo...the traffic is almost at gridlock, every gas station has long lines and cars circling the block, and I bought the last cooler at Target (they had none left at Sam's). I still haven't been to the grocery store to try to find ice and a few perishables, but I'll try to do that after picking up my daughter from school.

My cell phone has rung off the hook. Friends and family calling to talk about their "plans". Many are leaving town first thing tomorrow morning, unless something major changes in the forecast. My sister's packing up and going to North Carolina.

I've lived here all my life, and I've been through a few hurricanes and I've never seen anything like this!

Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts. Hopefully, we won't need them (I'm still holding out because the NHC really doesn't have a handle on the last few days of the current track) but it's nice to have them!

:grouphug:

Everyone in the storms path is in our thoughts and prayers!

GO AWAY IVAN!!

Thank you for all the prayers!!! We live in Largo, Fl just south of Clearwater about 10 mins from the Gulf. This storm has my nerves frazzled. I know it's too early to tell where the storm will land, but every map I look at puts it close to Pinellas County and Tampa Bay. Fortunatly we have all our supplies. We are in a level E so we only have to evacuate for a cat 5 but would we really want to stay. I will also probably have to work since I work in communications at a law enforcement agency. That adds even more stress. My family may have to evacuate while I stay behind. I am so worried for my family my community and my state. Thanks again for all the prayers!!

Hey TC. If the storm stays to the west of us - well that is one of the WORST possible scenarios since the NE quadrant of hurricanes are the most intense. I think it would be better (??) for us if it made landfall south of us.

I am lucky, never lost power during Frances......dont think the same will be for Ivan. Stay save all you Floridians!

Bet, I am seriosly thinking of joining you - will let you know, dont think I want to stay in Pinellas. If that news article you read about Charley is true than Pinellas is not the county to stay in!

Hey Bet and Christine!! You two stay safe and TRY to keep in touch whether it be phone or whatever.

I'm praying for everyone in Florida and that Ivan decides to either fizzle or go into the Gulf. I would rather it come nearer to me then hit Florida again!!!!!!!!

Hey there Beth. I was seriously considering high tailing it out of Florida and coming to camp out with you for a while. I just dont think I want to be that far away from home.....well if I had a home to come home too. :eek

It is nice of you to want the storm to come there but you dont!! I will try to call as much as possible - not too sure yet where I will go, I have about 4 options so call me on my cell if you want.

My work is actually opening up as a shelter (pretty strong bldg) and they have a bldg right next door to ours where we can bring our pets. I thought that was pretty cool of them because you cant take your pets with you to most places. I am going to wait to see what the track is going to be before I make my final plans on where to go......not staying here, thats for sure. :)

Well since the path covers the whole state of Fl and I live in S. Fl I've bought the plywood yesterday (never could get any during Frances) filled the car up with gas and went food shopping today. So if Ivan the Brat decides to come I'm as ready as I can be. Another 3+ days stuck at my job if we do get a watch.....GREAT!!

Thanks everyone for the prayers for all of us that live in Fl. Please be safe.

I'm also west coast south of Tampa.

We can't get any plywood here. DH went to Home Depot last night as they were unloading a truck. There were about 100 people in line and the guy said maybe half of them would get plywood. I'm not sure what we're gonna do. We won't have to evacuate no matter what the category but we're thinking about leaving anyway. Saw our EOC guy on a live news conference at 1pm and he said if he wasn't required to stay, he'd be leaving. And by leaving he said he would leave the state of FL. He said if you have no reason that you absolutely must stay, his advice is to get out now. Scariest thing I've heard on live TV in a while.

Tell me, you guys that are getting "hurricane supplies", what exactly are you getting? I have candles, flashlights, batteries for a portable radio, bread, canned soup and veggies and spaghettios, peanut butter and jelly, water.....I don't know what exactly I should be getting other than the above. What have you all bought?

My poor sister and brother-in-law are sitting in a devastated condo trying to board up the already blown out windows as best they can and secure everything - but hey, its all already gone anyways, what's another hurricane to add to the mix of their complete destruction. They have to live in someone elses condo because their's is so completely wiped out. They are east coast so they have less to worry about than the west coast people this go round. But the forecasters say, this is not it for the season. Its going to be rough right up until December.

I am so sorry for you all. I really am. I can't imagine.

cruisnfamily - keep trying to get that plywood. It will make all the difference in the world.

Buy big water cooler water jugs - as many as you can. Not the little ones, but the big ones (Sam's and BJ's should have these). This will ensure you have supplies of water. I stocked up on these after the latest terrorist threats where they said water supplies would be in jeopardy, about a year ago. I have filled my basement corner with them.

cruisnfamily ,
Make sure you have a manual can opener. All the canned goods in the world won't do you any good if your opener is electric.

Stay safe.

I agree with castlegazer.....keep trying to get supplies you never know when the next truck load will arrive!

Another thing I would like to add is I know how frustrating it is to be standing in line for food, supplies and waiting to get gas so please for the sake of the person next to you and yourself take an extra deep breath and try to stay calm, it doesn't help anyone when tempers are lost.

castlegazer- your sister and bil are in my thoughts and prayers, that's an aweful situation as well as others!

Cruisin...if you want to heat that soup and spaghettios, you'll need some sterno or something like that.

Also, at Sam's today they had the little packages of chicken salad in a can with crackers.

I can't believe another hurricane is coming your way guys. It sounds like you're all getting prepared as best you can, which is good. Hang tight.

Mmm! The chicken salad and crackers sound yummy!

We should start a new thread. "Hurricane Gourmet". :)
