Okay sure, its early. Gimme a break!

So here's the deal, my brother his wife and I are taking my our mom and their son to the party this year. Cant you feel the excitement building already? alright anyway.... we adore Halloween (cant imagine why) and are going to be Riku and Sora from Disney Interactive's and Squaresoft's Kingdom Hearts. (thats such an annoying name to write) Our costumes are simple and knowing my brother 0_o we had to make the weapons. Okay if youre thinkin evil guns and samurai swords your painfully mistaken, theyre keys. Big keys. Yes I said keys. -_-* oro. I warned him (yes i did i swear!) that Disney doesn't allow such things in the park that may hurt or cause anything harmful to another guest. Knowing him (and I should've seen this coming) he argued my point by saying Disney sells plastic guns, swords, bows n arrows you name it they sell it and that we'd only be making wooden and paper mache Keyblades. Here comes the big question (and I hope I haven't scared you off yet) Would that be alright or would we have to diss our overgrown door utensils? If we couldn't take them we were just gonna go before the 31st so we could show them off at home but I reaaaalllly wanna go for Halloween. They aren't that big and are extremley well made but I would rather leave them at home then be aborted from the park.

HELP!

thanx
Sora

OK, I have a similar issue so this is how it was explained to me. Anything that looks like a weapon they will not let in the park. Meaning that if you are waving it around, would a normal police officer feel in fear of their life and the lives of others and shoot you?

Since this is a key, this is a grey area. It is really up to the judgement of the individual security officer that searches you at the gate. One thing that would be factored in would be the size. You say they are big, how big are they? If they are made of wood, how heavy are they? If they are a foot long and made of thin plywood and paper mache, I can see those getting in whereas something that is 2 feet long and heavier will not.

Also if they are heavy, is this something you want to cart around all night. I know it looks cool but will it still be cool 2 hours later when you are trying to juggle food, a soda, packages, bags of candy, camera, etc.

I personally don't think guns are evil. On Halloween night my boyfriend is dressing like Doc Holliday. We know we can't bring non-working replica sidearms. I do not think even Disney sells the plastic ones anymore. Some look too real at a distance. However they DO sell wooden pistols which may be acceptable since they are obviously not a working weapon. However even that is an if.

My advice would be if they are too precious to be confiscated, don't take them. IF they can fit in a locker (and if MK has outside lockers like DL does - I've never checked) then try. If they say no, you can lock them up outside and retrieve them after the party.

I just received my tickets to MNSSHP. Along with the ticket was a letter that gave guidelines as to what is not acceptable for costumes. One of the items is anything that "contains any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon"

Hope this helps!

Any chance you could make reasonable facsimiles out of thin foam rubber??

They'd be light to carry, and couldn't possibly be mistaken for any kind of weapon.

thanx alot for all the help. i called disney today at park info and they couldn't help us so they connected us too guest relations. they lady told us that she couldnt tell us anything that it had to be seen by a security guard at the gate and determined on their point of view. im dissapointed. the costumes are to the exact mark and they look awesome. i was very excited about the idea but i guess we'd better be safe than sorry. we suggested letting my brother or myself nonchalantly walk into the park like there was no problem and see if they stopped us and if they did two of us would run back to the car to put them away. :( oh well i guess good things dont always go our way. think i should still try?

:o iiii give up. we called disney security and they were really rude about it. oh well we can survive

Here's Disneys "official " guidlines for costumes at MNSSHP:

They should not interfere with their ability to board and unboard attractions and WDW transportation system..

Do not drag on the ground.

Do not contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.

Be offensive to other guest.

Should not contain any weapon(s) which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

About the last one....when my son Erich was a pirate he had a flexible rubber pirate knife with a skull on the end. When Erich and my step son ,Jonathan, were Ninja Turtle's in 2001 one had plastic swords strapped to his back and the other the little plastic daggers in his belt.We had NO PROBLEMS either time with these props and that was right after 9/11.

I haven't been to WDW since the war began this winter so I don't know if they've "beefed up" security or not.

If it was me I'd try...all they can say is NO which you're prepared for anyway!

You're costumes sound awesome! Have fun!

*confidence boost* thanks! i was just gonna forget the whole idea but youve motivated me to try! when we called they had no idea what kingdom hearts was 0_o even though it features over 100 disney characters... anywaaaaay. i might post pics of the costume online..sometime..if im brave. they told us though, if we couldnt bring them in they would hold them until the party was over and we'd be able to take them home. thankyou all for your help!!!
