"It's Coming and it's BLUE" - A July 2010 TR - COMPLETED!!

Darn girl. You are freakin' hilarious :rotfl2:

That's such a bittersweet moment with the picture in front of the fake pumpkins. I really like that picture. It really hits it home that you are all grown up (but forever young, of course)

TTA of TERROR! Love it! Glad you made it off safely ;)

Do you have any of the other pics of you and your sister with the pumpkins? I'd love to see them next to each other!

I have to agree with you...since the TTA updates, that dark part is SM is totally way to slow and scary. I would've freaked being stuck there too! OH, and I also ALWAYS put my feet up as soon as I get in the ride vehicle!

I totally agree with you on Pecos Bill being the best CS in the MK. :thumbsup2 The fixins bar is just the best! I love getting a juicy burger with as many pickles as my heart desires!! And cheese for my french fries! YUM!

I hear ya on the bittersweetness (is that a word?) of visiting Toontown Fair. Even though we don't visit it a lot it is sad that it's going to be gone. When we were there we walked through Mickey's house and there is a picture of Mickey building his house. My sisters and I got sad looking at that thinking that they are going to knock it down. My one sister said how can you feel good about yourself after demolishing Mickey's house?!:sad2:

And that is kind of scary you got stuck on the Space Mountain part of TTA. It is pitch black in there!:scared1:

Great TR so far! However, I have to disagree about the crown jewel of Peco's Bills. It HAS to be the Taco Salad - YUM!

I am enjoying your report - can't wait for more!

After staring at your pics...I swear to you, I walked by you sometime during the day. I remember when you posted that 'Forever Young' shirt before our trips...and I remember seeing it while at WDW and thinking of you...and now that I see that pic of you with Buzz and I can see your bag too-I swear it was you!

Wow, no one at Pecos Bill's?! You sure got lucky with that one, getting there right when it opened.

We had to have just missed each other on the train! We rode it to Toontown too!

Oh my gosh, it is SO dark on the People Mover during the Space part. I would hate to get stuck there! Sorry you did. But hey, what a way to go if you did not live to tell the story..it happened at WDW! :thumbsup2
OMG. It was probably me. I remember commenting to my dad at one point that I was shocked that there weren't a million people wearing my shirt that day. I figured there would be a sea of girls wearing that shirt. But nope, we didn't see anyone else. But OMG. Do you remember where you saw me?
That chicken caesar wrap looks amazing!!!! Yum!

Such a cute pic of you and your sister! I am sorry that tradition won't be able to be continued but at Disney you can always make new traditions!

I am going to miss ToonTown but at the same time I am so pumped for Belle's house!!!! I am so excited about all of the Beauty and the Beast theming so that definitely helps with my ToonTown sadness.

That is the one reason I don't like TTA! It seems like no matter what whenever we are on it we always get stuck! We have been stuck in the dark part before but after a few minutes they turned the lights on so it was nowhere near as scary as your encounter!

Cute pic with Buzz!

Can't wait to hear more!
OMG. I am SO EXCITED for all of the Beauty and the Beast stuff. Especially the restaurant.

We had never gotten stuck on the TTA before this TERRIFYING experience. And it'll probably be a while before I convince myself it's safe to ride again.

It was very bittersweet. The whole moment had that end of an era feeling that is heartbreaking. Especially considering the theme of this whole summer has been "OMG. When did I get so old?" It was just all too fitting.
Do you have any of the other pics of you and your sister with the pumpkins? I'd love to see them next to each other!

We have a bunch of them hanging up, so I can take a picture of the frame and they'll all be side-by-side. If I forget, just keep reminding me until I post a pic. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I was shocked at just how dark it was. Everyone was saying that SM got a lot darker, but I didn't really notice a difference. The TTA on the other hand...

OMG. I would hate to be the person that has to knock down Mickey's house. I would feel so horrible!

Thank you!! :goodvibes

I've never had the taco salad...I never order anything but the chicken caesar wrap...but I'm sure it's delicious. I love a good taco salad.

That chicken caesar wrap looks great! We went there on our Disneymoon in May but I didn't eat anything, I don't remember why, but I definitely want to go again in November after seeing your pics!

The train to Toontown sounds fun. I haven't been on the train either a. ever or b. since I was 7 and I don't remember it. :confused3 So that's another must do on this trip! I have to hear that little spiel you're talking about! :)

Your pumpkin picture with your sister is so cute. I think I commented on it in your PTR but I'll say it again, I love how that is where you take your traditional yearly picture, it's such a random place! So sad that it will probably be your last. But your right, maybe it's time you find a new "adult" place. I hope you keep it just as random! :woohoo:

Getting stuck in the dark on TTA sounds awful! I got stuck on that a few times, but I don't think it was ever in the dark! That's so strange that you started going backwards!

Hope your room at the Poly is ready! :cool1:

I think it was like u were walking from tomorrowland towards the hub..but I could be wrong lol

Definitely eat at Pecos Bill's. It's delicious.

Yeah, we're definitely going to keep the next picture place just as random. I mean, nothing against the more traditional places, but I like having a unique spot. I'm crazy like that. :thumbsup2
I think it was like u were walking from tomorrowland towards the hub..but I could be wrong lol
Was it around around 12-12:30? Because I know we walked from Tomorrowland towards the hub sometime around then. :upsidedow I kinda feel like I'm playing a real life game of Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? Only I'm Carmen San Diego. :rotfl:

It could have been. I don't remember.

OMG I was obsessed with the Where in the World is Carmen San Diego computer game when I was younger!!

Okay, hold up- Pecos Bill has a chicken caesar wrap? OMG! I love those and yours looked sooo good! I am definitely going there next time!

Ugh to getting stuck in the dark  I like the name you gave it though- TTA of Terror- very fitting!

Super cute pictures of you and your sis in front of the pumpkin patch and with Buzz :)

Ahhh. I'm just bummed about the Fantasyland expansion. I like things the way they are. The new Ariel ride sounds pretty cool but still. Do you know that I haven't been through Mickey and Minnie's homes since I was FIVE? I know. It's insane, but Toontown always gets glazed over somehow and I don't know why. We usually visit it, but on our last trip we didn't do that once. I need to find out how long it will be open and whether or not I will get one more chance to see it. I swear, if we end up going in October, I am running through the gates and marching straight there on our first day.

I love the picture of you guys in front of the pumpkins, and you having on the Forever Young shirt is just poetic, I love it.

I didn't like the new narration either. I hear they have brought the old one back!! Thank God. Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow. Your party from Saturn has arrived.

I actually love Ellen's Energy Adventure. HONESTLY. I don't know why. I've always loved Ellen so much and I like dark rides and I like the Brontosaurus...es. I guess. It is too long though.

Aww! I'm sorry you got so scared on the TTA. When I was stuck alone on the Haunted Mansion I was fine for some reason, which is crazy because it was in a particularly dark and empty-ish part and I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T STAND the dark. When I get up in the middle of the night to pee, I stand in my room with the light on, put my arm out the door, reach around inside the bathroom, flick the light on, and only then can I continue onward. But for some reason, at Disney World I just feel so safe. I know that bad things can happen anywhere but I don't know. I Loooooooove the TTA/People Mover though. It's one of my favorite things to do at WDW and I swear I could do it for like an hour and not even be bored.

Pecos Bill's Chicken Caesar Wrap is my all-time favorite Chicken Caesar Wrap. And I'm a bit of a Chicken Caesar Wrap afficionado, so I've eaten A LOT of different versions. It's just soooooooo good.

I will probably never stop calling it the TTA of Terror. It's way cooler than just calling it the TTA. :rotfl:

Girllllll, you better go to WDW in October. I'm going to need someone to live vicariously through as I'm suffering through midterms. Plus, THEY ARE KNOCKING POOR MICKEY'S HOUSE DOWN. You need to see it one more time before it's gone.

I'm glad you like Ellen's Energy Adventure. It deserves at least one fan. I wish I liked it more because Bill Nye the Science Guy is one of my favorite people ever. But 45 minutes? I just...can't.

I usually love the TTA too. It's so relaxing and fun. But now I have this horrible memory of it, so we'll see if I like it as much the next time I ride it.

JULY 23RD PART 5: FOUR HOURS IN THE GREAT CEREMONIAL HOUSE

When I last left off, my family and I narrowly escaped death on the Magic Kingdom’s newest thrill ride, the TTA of Terror. Is there any chance that Mr. Tom Morrow is part of a law firm, like Morrow and Morrow or something? I’d like to contact him to file an intergalactic complaint.

Anyway, I was starting to get a headache and really wanted to lie down in a dark, air-conditioned room for a while, so Mom and I decided to head back to the Polynesian to check in. It was still a little early, but we were really hoping that our room would be ready. Dad and Katie decided to stay in the Magic Kingdom for a little while longer and ride some more rides.

So Mom and I headed for the exit, but not before she bought a pack of Toy Story (Not Brand Name) Silly Bandz. I had never really gotten into the whole Silly Bandz craze before. Why would I want to wear 10 pink dolphins on my wrists? But I’d be kidding if I said I didn’t wear a Jessie and a Bullseye all week. And if they made a classic Mickey Mouse head shape (why don't they???), I’d totally wear that every day of my life.

Silly Bandz in hand, we left the park and hopped on the boat back to the Polynesian. I, of course, took a bunch of pictures.

DSCN3057.jpg

Even though they don’t quite scream DISNEY as much as the monorail does, I do enjoy taking the boats. I love being out on the water. Plus, there’s something so glamorous about arriving via boat. Sure, I’m not stepping off my yacht in the south of France with a glass of champagne in one hand and thousands of dollars in the other, but I can pretend.

After making a glamorous exit onto the dock, we headed straight for the Great Ceremonial House. It was incredibly hard to resist flopping down into one of these empty hammocks.
DSCN3058.jpg

This little guy was right outside the doors to the GCH. I really want one for my backyard!
DSCN3060.jpg

I don’t have any pictures of check-in, but it went as you’d expect it to. We got our giant folder of Disney information. We got our leis. The CM told us that our room was on the first floor of Fiji (!!!), but it wasn’t ready yet. Blerg.

Oh, keep in mind that it was right around 1:00 when we checked in. That’ll come into play later on.

So to kill some time, Mom and I decided we’d take a walk around the grounds. We headed over towards Fiji and tried to guess which room would be ours. We were really hoping that we’d get one of these rooms that look over the marina.
DSCN3065.jpg

Here’s a picture of the Fiji sign. I love the font the Polynesian uses on all of its signs. It’s so distinctly Polynesian.
DSCN3066.jpg

On the other side of Fiji, there were several plants with big, gorgeous flowers. I really wanted one to stick in my hair, but I wasn’t about to mess with anything this pretty. Plus, I'd look pretty guilty walking around with an obviously picked flower in my hair.
122.jpg

Mom and I headed back over to the marina, where we found a bench and sat down and chatted for a bit. This was our view. Because it was the first day, I was still having moments of OMG I’M AT WDW!!! And sitting there staring across the lagoon at the Castle triggered one of those moments. It just felt so good to finally be home!!
DSCN3071.jpg

After a while, we were both getting really hot (and the heat was not helping my headache) so we headed back into the air-conditioned splendor of the GCH. We walked around Boutiki for a bit and scoped out the souvenirs before sitting down in these awesome chairs.
DSCN3072.jpg

I want these chairs for my house! They are so cool. And surprisingly comfortable. I didn’t expect a lobby chair to be as comfortable as these are.

So Mom and I settled in and did what we do best…people watch. We’re big people watching fans. I could sit somewhere all day and just watch the crowds pass by. It’s especially fun at Disney because you get to watch families having fun together. In this particular moment, there was a family of four sitting near us who also appeared to be waiting for their room to be ready. The mother had fallen asleep, so the kids and the dad decided to entertain themselves by taking silly pictures with their sleeping mother. They were putting stuffed animals on her head and doing silly poses next to her. It was really funny to watch, mainly because Katie and I would have done the exact same thing when we were younger. Heck, who am I kidding? We would totally do the same thing today if our parents fell asleep. We’re never planning on growing up.

Around 2:00, Katie and Dad came back from the Magic Kingdom and joined us in the GCH. We got our mugs, filled them up, and went back to waiting.

Here’s a picture of Katie. As you can see, she still had a lot of energy.
DSCN3075.jpg

Now me, on the other hand? I was about to pass out. My headache wasn’t going away, and all I wanted to do was take a nap. And those chairs were soooo comfortable. I think at this point I tweeted asking whether or not it was tacky to take a nap in the lobby. I’m not usually one for sleeping in a public place, but we didn’t have a room and I was strongly considering just taking a nap right then and there.
DSCN3076.jpg

Unfortunately my nap dreams were crushed when tons of pool-goers came storming into the GCH because it started to downpour. I don’t blame them because this is what it looked like outside.
DSCN3081.jpg

But, man, do displaced pool-goers make a lot of noise. So, no nap for me. Although, it was a lot of fun to watch soaking wet people run for cover.

That sounded really mean of me. I promise I'm not a completely evil person...I just think it's funny watching people get drenched. I would hope that you all would laugh hysterically at me if I was getting soaked. I mean, I'd be laughing at myself.

OH! I absolutely must mention something that I thought was really cool. Literally as soon as it started raining, a bunch of Polynesian CMs set up baskets of towels at all of the doors for people to dry off with.
DSCN3084.jpg

When I saw that, I really wished I had internet access so that I could come on the DISboards and post a big “Suck it, nerds!” to all of the people who complain about poor service/unfriendly CMs at the Polynesian. The Polynesian CMs are awesome.

In another example of their awesomeness, as we all sat there in the lobby, a CM came around with a tray of cookies for everyone. You have no idea how excited that free chocolate chip cookie made me. I felt so special. Have you ever gotten free cookies in your hotel lobby? No? I didn’t think so.
DSCN3082.jpg

Around 3:00, the rain had stopped, so Mom and Dad headed out to the car to get some of our stuff. We were hoping that we’d be getting the call that our room was ready any minute now, so we wanted to be prepared. Unfortunately, we still had A LOT more waiting to do, so we sat there with all of our luggage in the lobby.
DSCN3083.jpg

Because it was sunny again, Dad decided to take some pictures of the GCH. It’s so gorgeous.
Image003.jpg

Image008.jpg

I especially love this tree. It looks like a cross between a palm tree and an umbrella.
Image006.jpg

Instead of just sitting around, I decided to be productive and got a notebook out to start taking some trip report notes. This picture is blurry, but you can see me writing away in my pink steno notebook. I’m such an aspiring journalist. Who is a sucker for anything pink.
Image005.jpg

Around 3:30, Mom went over to the front desk to see if they’d give us a timetable on when our room might be ready. The front desk CMs once again told her that we were in Fiji, first floor, marina view (SCORE!!!) but there were “engineers” working in the room and they weren’t sure exactly when they would be finished. They also offered us a room in Rarotonga, but Mom turned that down. We’ve always wanted a marina view, so we’d wait.

Dad and I passed the time thinking up crazy scenarios that would require “engineers” to be working in the room. I mean, they didn’t say that there were electricians working to fix a lamp. Or that the cable guy had to come work on the TV. Nope, they specifically said “engineers”, which to us at least, implied some sort of serious work. You don’t just call in an engineer for anything. Did the roof cave in? Did the guests who stayed in the room before us get so upset that they had to leave that they chained themselves to the furniture? (I wouldn’t blame them for doing that.) Did a Sea Raycer jump out of the water and into the sliding glass doors?

At 4:30, we FINALLY got the call we’d been waiting for. We were in Fiji 1319 and OUR ROOM WAS READY!!!! WOOHOOO!!!

We were happy until we noticed that it was once again downpouring. You can see how hard it was raining in this picture. We weren’t about to carry all of our stuff outside in that.
DSCN3086.jpg

So we waited some more. I mean, what’s a little more waiting when you’ve already been sitting there for almost 4 hours? Yeah, that’s right. 4 hours. It was nuts. But whatever, we were at Disney and we didn’t let the wait bother us. Would we have liked our room earlier? Of course. But the waiting was kind of fun, and it was definitely memorable. I only wish I knew how to play guitar because "Four Hours in the GCH" would make an excellent, dramatic protest-sounding song.

UP NEXT: We finally head to our room and then spend the evening at the Magic Kingdom!!

Girllllll, you better go to WDW in October. I'm going to need someone to live vicariously through as I'm suffering through midterms. Plus, THEY ARE KNOCKING POOR MICKEY'S HOUSE DOWN.

Trust me I am trying. I don't think I've ever wanted to be there as much as now to be honest. We'll see what happens.

I'm OFFENDED about Mickey's house. It's just not cool. How could they knock it down? Where will he live?

Free cookies in the lobby! Sounds like my kind of place.

I want these chairs for my house! They are so cool. And surprisingly comfortable. I didn’t expect a lobby chair to be as comfortable as these are.

They look nice.

WHOA A NEW UPDATE!! Ok let me get right on that. *Scurries away to read*

Ok Hi!

Ahhhhhhhh you are arriving at the Poly. Too bad you can't see me right now because I have turned so green with envy that I am giving the aliens from Toy Story a run for their money.

LOLOL Morrow and Morrow.

They don't make a classic mickey head Silly Band? This is a mistake. I need one!

God the Poly beach looks so cool from the boat! I've never taken the boat from the MK to the Poly so this view is new to me, and I love it!

LOL omg the family you were watching. That hits close to home with my family. We have some famous Thanksgiving pictures of my uncles and grandpa passed out on top of each other in food comas. Ah, family.

I'm so impressed with the towels and cookies. I know people bellyache over how much Disney sevrice has declined in recent years but when you hear things like this it just really makes you think if that's really true. A lot of CMs obviously still believe in "The Disney Difference". :)

I can't believe you spent FOUR HOURS in there! You must have been really not feeling well to not go explore or something. I love that it really doesn't even matter because 4 hours stuck in the GCH is better than anything that could ever possibly happen at home anyway. Sigh. I miss the Poly.

I love your dad with his lime green silly band. DIS REPRESENT.

Oh that waiting SUCKS!! In all of my (adult) trips, we've checked in before 11am and the ONLY time we ever had to wait hours and hours was at the Poly! We pretty much did the exact same thing you guys did! Went to MK, then back to Poly with HOPES that we'd get that magical text as we were arriving....but we ended up taking turns sitting with our bags while the other went to the Boutiki, etc.

Glad you got your marina view though! Can't wait to see a pic! :thumbsup2

I have to admit I am a fan of silly bandz  I don't wear them often but I think they are so cool! They do have a Mickey shaped one but it's his entire body not just the Mickey head.

I love the boats at WDW! They are fun to ride and see the sights with and I am always amazed by how big WDW seems but then everything is really close together!

Beautiful view from the bench!

I always fall asleep in public at Disney World  I have fallen asleep at bus stops, in shows and once on a Disney bus. All of that going going going makes it easy for me to pass out just about anywhere

Nothing better than a free cookie :thumbsup2

It's good that you were able to shrug off the wait! I can't imagine how I would feel after sitting around for 4 hours in a hotel especially with MK so close by!

Can't wait to hear about the evening at MK!

Free cookies in the lobby! Sounds like my kind of place.

They look nice.
The free cookies were a wonderful surprise. :)
WHOA A NEW UPDATE!! Ok let me get right on that. *Scurries away to read*

Next time you're there, take the boat from the MK to the Poly (and Grand Floridian). It's especially gorgeous at night. :thumbsup2

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I haven't noticed the drastic decline in service that everyone seems to complain about these days. Maybe it's because I don't waste my time looking for every little thing to nitpick over. I only have so many days at Disney and I am darn well going to enjoy them...Not sit there thinking about how that CM should have smiled at me as we walked past.

We thought about going to the pool, but then the rain started. After a while, it just became sort of a "Well, we've been sitting here for this long. A little more sitting isn't going to hurt."

HAHAHAHA Dad's Silly Band is a Buzz Lightyear that we made him wear. He actually wore it all week, too, which I didn't think he would do.

:thumbsup2
This was the first time we've ever had to wait. Our rooms have always been ready right when we checked in. It was just kind of annoying because, at first, they didn't really give us a timetable on when the room would be ready. We figured we were only waiting on Mousekeeping to finish cleaning, which shouldn't take that long. Then by the time Mom got them to tell us that the room was being worked on, we had already been waiting for so long that we just figured it would be easier to stay there and wait than head off and find something to do. But in the grand scheme of things, I'm glad we had that extra time to sit and relax. It definitely helped us from pushing ourselves too hard on the first day.

Ooooo I might have to get myself one of those Mickey Mouse silly bandz then. HAHA

I'm weird about sleeping in public. I just can't do it. Like, I'm pretty sure I am the only kid in the world who has never fallen asleep during a class. Even if I'm really tired, I just can't.

Yeah, I didn't mind the wait too much. I'm generally pretty easy going about stuff like that though. I don't mind waiting, especially when I have a comfy chair and a free cookie. :rotfl:
