It's ALL About the Food (We go to WDW to eat and drink!!) ~ October 2009 TR

I might as well do this now rather than after dinner! Or in the morning when we are trying to get everything done and out of here. It is our last full day at WDW. :( I hate today. Every trip we take I hate today. 'nuff said...

We had a 9:30 reservation at Fresh in the Dolphin and decided to walk over. It is not far at all and it was a nice walk. It was hot, but you all have already figured that out. :lmao:

Here is what we looked at as we went:

And, finally... we arrived!

To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. The last 4-5 times we ate breakfast here we loved the service and the food. Neither were good this time. For Bob to say it was "adequate" is saying a lot because he usually has nothing to say! The container of bacon caught on fire while we were eating and the smell was awful. The servers never bothered to tell anyone what was going on, just all left the dining room to go up and look at the burning pot. We were sitting near enough to that area of the buffet that we could see and knew it was OK, but some patrons were worried because of the stench. The best thing we can say about the meal was that their bacon was better than Cat Cora's! Well, before it caught on fire it was. ;)

We left the dining room and headed for the dock to take a Friendship to Epcot. We were meeting Jennifer (tink2020) and her family at The Land where they planned to eat lunch.

We did find one another, but the twins were very hungry and needed to eat so it was a brief meeting and myBob took a photo with Jen's camera, but not mine! :headache: What were we thinking?!?!? When Jen puts her photos up I will grab that one and put it in this report.

It was so hot we decided to go back to the room and get cooled off. On the way we saw so many of the things that keep us coming back every trip:

We stopped in at the Rose & Crown Pub for some time in the AC and for a pint. It is so gorgeous in there.

As we came back to the room we commented on how beautiful the Disney Resorts are. Since we have been to WDW so many times we go for different reasons than many people. We never once rode a ride this entire trip! Not even the monorail!! But we certainly enjoyed the parks and the resorts. Here are just a couple of reasons why:

The entrance to the solarium

The beautiful landscaping

And it just feels nice to see this after a long day

The laundry is almost finished and most of the packing is done. I will update our dinner at Flying Fish either tonight, early in the morning or when we get home...

Day 6, continued here...

Sorry your trip is coming to a close Elin! We'll be at Epcot for breakfast and I'm wondering if I need my head examined to be braving the heat and humidity. This gal melts in the sun. :scared1: Thank goodness we'll be having plenty of water park and pool time this trip-sounds like we're gonna need it.

I'm all caught up! Oh your report makes me want to be there right now!

Various beers: Moosehead, Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest, Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale

We had a wonderful day. We were in the parks for 9 straight hours. It has been years since we did that together. And, as you can tell by the smile on his face at the end of the day… myBob was a happy man.

This picture does say it all. It's a framer!

This winery is actually in Oregon, not Washington!

The final selection was a NxNW (North by Northwest ) Cabernet Sauvignon. I love the label and the wine was wonderful. I will buy a few bottles of this at home.

I thought that the minute I saw the pic...wondering if I was confused! Willamette is in OR...jumped right out at me. I'm only so-so on King in general, not being a big Pinot Drinker but I'm going to look for the NxNw...sounds delish!

We stopped for a nightcap and Martha’s Vineyard and were home by 12:30 and sound asleep before 1:00. It was another great day.

1005091400.jpg

We also had a pitcher of Sam Adams Oktoberfest. This came with the coolest chiller contraption. Kept the beer cold the whole time we were there!

Smiling Chad had promised to have port for me this evening so when we got there he held up the bottle. Seems there wasn’t any in his shipment that morning and he had to go steal some from Yachtsman Steakhouse. Boy am I glad we went. It was also his last night to work during our trip. He has company coming in for the next week and plans to be at the F&W Festival for most of that time. I hope he has a great time because he sure made our evenings fun this week. We look forward to seeing him again in December.

That is a wild beer chiller thingy!
I love all the walking pictures from BC! And the great info about Martha's Vineyard and the YC lounge. You are making me so excited for our YC trip!

I hate the last day too. :headache: It comes FAR too quickly. :sad2:

So glad you guys have had such a good time. Thanks so much for sharing it with us via live reports! :goodvibes

Your pictures have made me homesick and I've only been back for 4 days! But that's in a good way. I love reliving the magic! :wizard:

Is it wrong that I giggled a little when the bacon caught on fire? How does that happen?!

Elin I am so sad to see your trip is coming to the end. I have enjoyed your reports the whole time can't wait to see and hear more when you and Bob get home. Have a safe trip back home:goodvibes.

Safe travels Elin - enjoy your last day and thanks so much for sharing your trip with us! :goodvibes

I am glad you enjoyed taking our vacation with us! You will love this area. Lots to do here. And the King Estates? Unless you dislike whites, give their Pinot Gris a try. It was really good!

I'm so sad for you that your trip is ending. Have a safe trip home!

Denise

Thanks, Denise. :goodvibes

At least we have one more day, technically. The towncar doesn't come get us until 4:15 this afternoon. So... we will brave the heat for more food and drink today! Thanks for following us this trip!

It's an outrage!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

They had cast iron dutch ovens full of eggs, bacon and potatoes. Each was atop its own state-of-the-art ( :lmao: ) hot plate. Apparently one of them went into overdrive and the bacon inside the pot started to smoke and then the oil in the bottom of the pan caught fire. I smelled the smoke but thought someone in the kitchen had overcooked something. It was not until another patron pointed out the smoking pot that anyone from the restaurant noticed or did anything. And it took the whole staff to handle the catastrophe, apparently! :rotfl2:

It was not a huge fire. But I can't believe no one on the staff noticed the smell or the smoke coming from the buffet area. Of course... myBob was oblivious...

You are welcome, Michele and Brenda. I was hoping to update our Flying Fish dinner before we check out this morning. We will see...

Housekeeping was knocking on our door at 8:18 this morning! She seemed perturbed that we were not gone yet. When I told her that it would be close to 11:00 she tried to lower my bid to 9:00 or "maybe 10:00, yes" but I stuck to my guns. :rotfl2:

I do intend to say something to the front desk. That is outrageous.

:lmao: Have they never heard of a chafing dish?? :lmao: That hot plate must have been really hot! Still makes me laugh.

Safe travels!

I can't wait to hear your review of FF. Did you have the scallops?

Thanks for the ridealong, Elin! Now you get to look forward to your TWO December trips!

I don't really use it the rest of the week, but that's exactly why I put the privacy sign out on checkout day :headache:

Enjoy your last day and have a safe trip home :goodvibes

Something similar happened to us at CSR, I didn't really give it much thought, but at 8:30, we had a knock on our door. I didn't think to put the "Do not disturb" sign out because, well, it was 8:30! I didn't think much of it, but I won't be happy if they do it again this trip. If it's a new policy, I'll say something, that's for sure!

(Ours at CSR didn't try to negotiate with us though. Perhaps because I had an "you're cutting into my Disney time woman" expression on! )

Hope you enjoy your last day Elin, sorry about mousekeeping. I always put the "Do not disturb" sign on our door. I would be a very unhappy camper if they came knocking at my door that early!

The last full day is the hardest.:sad1: I hope your Flying Fish dinner was wonderful!

I HATE the last day as well...it's so sad.:sad1: Hoping you were able to enjoy the day and wishing you safe travels.:goodvibes
