It would be neat if DVC was on the next ships

I thought it would be neat if they had DVC rooms on the next ships. We could use our points for the room and add in the food/entertainment for extra money (similar to DDP and tickets for the parks) or use points for all of them.

I know we can use DVC points for a cruise, but I was thinking that by having DVC rooms on the ship, the points would be more in line with the resorts.

Just a neat idea .

Although I think that members would LOVE to use their points to book the DVC rooms on the ship I don't think that many people would be able to afford the dues that owning would cost.

I can never see them doing that, I think there is more of a chance of the DVC DCL than Castaway Cay. There might be enough acreage to physically do it, but there would be way too many operation limitations. First of all, the only way to get there would be by boat, or small charter plane (if they opened the runway again.) Beyond the high cost of getting there, the maintenance dues would be crazy (as crazy as DCL), as everything (equipment, supplies, and CM's) would have to be shipped in. As a matter of fact, you'd also be paying to build accommodations for the cast members, and support their room and board through dues. The island generates their fresh water from seawater through reverse osmosis, and the cost of doing that to a level that would support a resort would be prohibitive. As would dealing with sewage and wastewater. Finally, the bugs on the island are so bad in the evening; you wouldn't be able to leave your room after 5pm (which is why the ships always leave before sunset).

Not to mention, IMHO, it's a nice place to visit for a day, but I would be bored out of my skull after about 3! I'm not a big fan of the Caribbean anyway, but I would much rather have them build a DVC resort at an established location such as St. John, Playa Del Carmen, or even Puerto Rico, where there is more to see and do.

Yeah, I would love to be able to book a cruise using "regular" points instead of the astronomical points they charge now. But...I really can't see them doing this as there is no need. Those ships sail full, that is why they are getting 2 more of them. They have the demand, so there is no need for them to make it "cheaper" for us to sail.

And, let's all face it -- AND admit it while we're at it -- when we go on a cruise we want to be pampered.

Can you imagine the first complaints from "DVC" rooms on the ship: "We had no turn down service." "There were no towel animals waiting for us." "Our rooms were never cleaned." and on and on and on...

The points are in line, and arguably, a bargain with what you get on a cruise; room, meals, entertainment, travel, etc. You can't expect for the points to be much lower.

Would be a logistical nightmare unless the dues were high enouogh to make it all inclusive. At that price for dues it's probably already cheaper to either pay or use DVC points. It's one of those things that would be great if it could work.

i thought you could use your points for the cruise - i also wonder how many people use their points on the cruise vs at one of the resorts -

in all honesty it looked wonderful - 160 points for a 7 day cruise, until i saw the fine print and that was per person.

for us - that will be something we do as an extra special thing ie our 10th wedding anniversary.
