It is still a bra!

Pot meet kettle.

Yep, I have a standard of modesty that I know is not the societal norm. I have a set of beliefs that I guess what -- believe in, and I am comfortable enough with them to swim against the tide and not care if others think that I am close-minded, backwoods, prude, whatever else you would like to call me.

I'm here - I was just away from the computer for a bit and there are 5 pages of responses! Where to begin?!;) I work out, I wear a sports bra and a tank over it. I'm not jealous. I'm not fat and I'm not lazy. I just wouldn't wear my undergarments out of the house..

Lol, not wearing under garments out of the house? That is often the only place I do;). Sorry couldn't help it!

I didn't call you any of the above. You are judging people, not I. I do believe in live and let live as long as no one gets hurt.

Everyone has their own standards and I can assure you that I don't swim with the tide.

But if you don't bare your body in public you must be fat.

When I see a woman wearing a sports "bra," I don't think I'm seeing her in her undergarments.:confused3 Most undergarment bras that I've seen are, shall we say, a bit more attractive, use a different kind of material and cover less than a sports/fitness/outerwear garment designed for exercise/playing sports. And even the "old lady" bras look nothing like sportswear to me. I wouldn't compare (most) women's shorts to underwear, though, either.

Again, putting words in my mouth?

I suppose this statement really threw me off then:

"I'm willing to bet that if you had a hard, athletic body you would have no problem showing your midriff in a bikini bathing suit..."

I just wouldn't wear my undergarments out of the house. Personal preference and maybe just me. (I'm 45 btw)
For the record I don't like seeing the boys cross country team running half nekkid either.
....In my day we wore shirts - Pembo says in her old lady's voice. :) That's supposed to be funny. :lmao:

I keep my snufferdoodle under my clothes. I also wear a tankini at the beach or pool.
I buy my sports bra in the lingerie dept. Guess I might feel different if I bought one in the work-out section. :confused3

Didn't mean to make people so wound up, just venting.
Back to your regular Dis'ing....

You buy your sports bras in the same section as your regular ones:confused3? That probably why you have an issue with this. I imagine if you checked out the ones in the sportswear dept you'd feel differently. I don't wear just a sports bra because I don't feel confident enough but the ones I have could easily be more as tops alone. They're very thick and provide more than ample coverage.

Op again - those who wear a sports bra and nothing else - would you wear a regular bra out with nothing over it? Would you wear your panties out with nothing over them? What's the point of underwear if it is actually outerwear?:sad2::scratchin

I think my age is showing...lol

They may be called a "bra" But it isn't really a bra like you are thinking of

FWIW I am 50 and I have no problem with it.

I do understand. When I work out, I wear a top over my underwire bra. And when I dance ballet, I wear my leotard over my underwire bra.

The temperature today here is 85 with humidity up to 80%. So I DO know what it's like to work out in hot weather wearing two layers. I still cover my bra.

My DD wears a "sports bra" over her underwire. to her is is a top and not a bra. IN fact they are not bras. They aren't sold, ( at least the ones DD purchases) in the bra and pantie section of the store. They are sold in the area of workout clothes.

I have 3 daughters and I find that I like them to be pretty modest... Compared to their peers. No string bikinis, spaghetti straps as a shirt or booty shorts. I dont like them in shirts too low (cleavage) or pants too low (coin slot)

That said, I have NO ISSUE with them wearing a sports "bra" while working out. I won't allow torn up jean shorts and spaghetti strap cami to church because it is not appropriate to the situation. But wearing workout wear while working out IS appropriate.

I am not offended seeing a competitive swimmer wearing a swimsuit. And I hope none of you would ever have pervy thoughts about my daughter running in a sports bra.

this thread just made me howl! lol I wish I could burn my snufferdoodle to be quite honest. I hate that thing.

Ban the snufferdoodle!

It must be decided. Is a snufferdoodle a sports bra, or any bra? Inquiring minds want to know! My vote is that a snufferdoodle should be any bra, because that's how sam_gordon used it, but I'm seeing others who seem to favor limiting the term to a sports bra.

Personally, I think that a sports snufferdoodle is no more inappropriate than a strapless gown with a built-in snufferdoodle. There's no shame in a lady being cool and comfortable -- and supported -- while she exercises.

Yesterday, I saw the high school cross country team (girls and boys) run near my house. Everybody had shirts on, no one was shirtless and/or wearing visible sports bras.

It was also 85 degrees with higher humidity. It might be a coach rule.

I wear my sports snufferdoodle around the house without a shirt.

Hot flashes are killing me, and when they hit, I can't stand to have a shirt touching me.

If I could be topless, I would. But the front door is glass and I don't need any more problems in my life. ;)

When I was younger (read: before 3 kids and medical problems), I would have been comfortable running around in just the sports snufferdoodle in public. Now, I put on a shirt to go to the mailbox.

I don't begrudge those who can still run around in their snufferdoodles only...wait....um....oh darn. Truth be told, I hate them. :rotfl: :upsidedow

It's all about time and place. Exercising on the beach, appropriate. Running along a jogging path, appropriate. At the Melting Pot, not appropriate.

I used 'snufferdoodle' as a different name from 'sports bra'. The OP seemed to have a problem because "it is still a bra!" and therefore shouldn't be worn by itself. So I wanted to ask if it WASN'T called a "bra", would there still be a problem. I remember one person said it still isn't appropriate to wear regardless of the name, but never said why it wasn't appropriate (and I did ask).
