Issue with DVC owner responding...what would you do?

Well, one is for the relative of someone getting married and it is for only a week and a half after we return, so I figured they might have a last minute crisis. I figured with the stress of the wedding plans, I would spare them the stress of me being totally unreachable. :teeth:

I did tell them I would appreciate if they only contacted me if it absolutely could not wait til I returned.

I tend to be overaccomodating by nature. Drives DH crazy. :furious:

In May I rented points from a DVC owner for a 2 BR at Beach Club with a transfer to BW (BW View) at 7 months. I have a confirmed reservation letter. I've seen many posters say their waitlist came through at BWV a long time ago for the same time of year we're going. So maybe he never called...We'll deal with BCV if that's how it has to be. Two weeks ago I called MS myself to set up ME for the six of us. I called twice and neither time would they discuss anything with me about the ressie nor would they take my flight info for ME. I mailed the owner twice in the last two weeks, once to ask he phone them with my flight info and a second time to confirm that he did call. He doesn't respond. Is there anything else I can do? We leave in three weeks; I need to get those tags. I think it's ridiculous that MS won't take flight info from a confirmed ressie..they state they've had abuse in the past. If the number of people in the ressie match up to the number of flight reservations and luggage tags (and even the names match), what's the difference? I guess we should think about simply booking two rooms at the resort of my choice next time. It would be much simplier and I'd feel more of the Disney Magic, not like I'm some sort of criminal looking to cheat they system.
Keep trying and also try to phone as email has a tendency to be an issue for a number of reasons. As for the transfer to BWV BW view, did you think it was a given this would come through? I'm thinking it's unlikely since you'd have to wait list for the entire dates at one time. I think most of the ones you saw came through for a BW view were members who wait listed earlier than 7 months and did so day by day or only needed a couple of days. Also, if you can't get anywhere, I'd suggest you call ME back again, maybe call MS and ask to speak to a supervisor and call the resort directly and discuss with a manager there. Hopefully MS will call the member for you if nothing else works out. Are you looking to buy, if so and are working with a guide, they may be able to help. And unless you get extenuating circumstances you are uncomfortable with, you may want to consider someone else next time.

Nope, they won't have your reservation in their systems until 5 days out.

Unless the reservation is in his name, ME will have nothing to do with you. I found this out earlier this month. My friend booked us at ASMusic for the weekend in her name. I called to get my ME reservation and unless my friend called and added me to the reservation, they would not talk to me. I told her i'm staying in the room with her and they wouldn't believe me. I was added to the reservation but even when i got to the ME desk at MCO, they couldn't find her name (it was spelled weird), they all but told me, if you're not staying with us, you cannot ride with us. luckily, they found it and i was good to go.
Apparently, people have been staying offsite and trying to hitch a ride with disney.

Worst case is that you have to pick up your bags yourself and take them over to ME. If you choose to go that way you should call ME a day or two before you travel to work out the details for the ride to BCV. That is when your reservation will be available to them to look at, right?

Y-ASK

Just wanted you all to know that DME was no help. He didn't ask for a ressie number, just my name (which is a pretty common one) to begin with. So, he issued luggage tags to another person with the same name, staying the same dates at the POFQ. I found this out after I asked if he had the correct resort. Then I gave him the resise number and he asked, "Is this a DVC reservation", I replied yes and he stated DVC ressies were not put in their system until 48 hours before arrival date.

Will phone my owner again in the morning. Thanks again for all the help.
I'm sorry to hear DME wasn't willing to help you. They have helped me out in the past. The difference in my case was that it was in the early days of DME when they were still working out the kinks so perhaps they were more willing to let guests sign up directly through them at that time.

That's suprising as DME was very helpful when my sister got sick and went home. Less than a couple hours notice, but so were the SSR bell staff coming and getting her and her bags.

I booked SSR through Expedia and they gave me a website, went to it about 2 months before trip and 2 weeks later had correct bag tags for ever one. They did ask for ressie #.

Finance 101- inverse relationship between risk & reward.

I think if I ever half to get rid of some points, I'll do a transfer.

I would think this is two entirely different situations. The OP should have a reservation at the "resort" at 5 days out as long as the owner booked and listed her name. Not sure about ME, never use them.

If not she has some serious problems.

Thats why i said "unless the reservation is in his name". That's why ME won't send luggage tags and vouchers. Even if there is no time to send them, if the OP calls ME before they leave, they will at least be on the roster if they can find his name.

This is one of the reasons that a contract makes sense

Don't rent and don't expect what members get.

A contract would not help one bit in this situation.

So, Envirochick, did you ever get ahold of the owner?

MS stands for MEMBER SERVICES, i.e DVC members who have all spent 10s of thousands of dollars with Disney Corp. Not services for anyone who has spent a few hundred bucks. Anyone is free to dig deep and join, then use MS to their hearts content. I dont mind any owner renting their points out but I do mind non owners telephoning MS whose wages and the cost of the freefone numbers, offices and equipment are paid for by mine and every other members annual dues. Rember that any non member who has ever phoned to call about a reservation has made at least one phone call more than the minimum that is required for any reservation that has been made by a member so it has already cost all members more than normal admin. I therefore believe Disney has made the correct decision in banning telephone calls from non members. I also think it would be a good idea if disney mentioned this in the answerphone message that is played whilst waiting to be connected to advise non members that they are wasting their time phoning this number as they will not be able to get any information. This would cut the time down that they spend on this matter and incease the time spent on us the members. Productivity would alos be increased and with this comes a smaller amount of our dues been spent on this service.

I think some of us are missing the point of this thread.

OP is asking what she can do to resolve her problem, not whether MS should be used by non-members. One explanation of why the policy changed caused some of us to stray far from the point in question -- which was, what can OP do now?

At the time OP made her original ressies, it was perfectly acceptable practice for renters to call MS. That practice changed on August 1, long after OP's initial reservation was made. When OP tried to call MS, she was doing what she thought was acceptable.

Our opinions about whether the MS policy change was a good thing or bad thing have nothing to do with OP's original request.

So, Envirochick, did you ever get ahold of the owner?

Yes, Diane, I did. Thanks for asking. He's been on extended holiday and hasn't looked at his e-mail (he's actually still on holiday, but thought something might be wrong when I called his office, so he phoned me promptly). He will call MS and get ME set up for us today and is happy to do so. This was not a "bad" transaction and the owner is not a "bad" guy, or unreliable. The lesson I learned was that communication with renter and owner is much more important since MS changed its' policy in August 2006. If I do this again instead of going through CRO, I'll definately keep that in mind. Quoting another post:

I appreciate this post from JimMIA. This thread turned into many things it was never meant to be and this post mimicked my thoughts. Thanks to all who really tried to help me resolve my problem. See you at WDW!

YAY!!!!!!! I am so glad things worked out!!!! I have been thinking about you and hoping all would be okay!!!:)

Have a wonderful vacation!!!!!

Hope you have a WONDERFUL trip! Be sure to come back and report on it!

Great! I've been checking on this thread periodically to see how it turned out for you...have a great trip!

I'm glad your owner responded and the stress is off you. Have a great trip.

I'm glad everything worked out. However, between the dining program and magic express, there is getting to be more and more that a member has to do when they rent out points. I really don't think it's worth the $10 pp to do it.
