As for your first comment: many (most, IMHO) renters are simply liquidating a temporary surplus of points, and are more worried about getting nothing for them than squeezing out every last dime. As to your second point, that is an incorrect statement. Possibly, it reduces the income stream a DVC owner can derive from renting, but I assure you, what the current rental price is has absolutely ZERO effect on my DVC investment; my 300 points buys the same number of nights at a DVC resort whether you rent for $1, $10 or $100 point. And I respectfully request you not attempt to speak for ALL members - renting cheaply doesn't do a disservice to me, and I don't remember you asking me....skelooch said:I to do not understand why people rent their points so cheap. childsplay said:I completely agree. Not that I ever intend to rent, but if the occasion arises I would most certainly take less than $10 for a painless point transfer with paypal involved to another DVC member, honestly I'd go as low as $7 or $8 under those conditions.
With respect, people are already renting their points at exactly the price they think is fair. It certainly sounds like you want people to rent out their points at a price you think is fair....sjdisneywedding said:[...] im not advising anyone to to set a specific price but I will say if you are going to rent or transfer your points then put them out there at a price you think is fair. Finally, one thing that seems to be forgotten in this discussion is that someone who rents points from a DVC owner is incurring some very serious risks. They do NOT get control of the reservation and they can make NO changes to it - the DVC owner could simply cancel the reservation at any time and the renter would show up and be told "Sorry", with no immediate recourse. This is significantly different than if they book through Disney; the assumption of that risk reduces the value of a point in the eyes of a renter.
Be well!
IMHO - YMMV
Easy. I bought into DVC solely as a prepaid (plus annual MF) vacation destination; not as an appreciable asset, not as a revenue-generating investment. So as long as my DVC points continue to purchase the same level of vacation lodging that I was promised at purchase time, the value of my investment remains unchanged.skelooch said:[...] but how could you possibally say that the rental price has has zero impact on the value of your investment, I'd sure feel a whole lot better knowing I could get $20 a point than $10.[...]
A little heavy with the "everyone" usage, eh? In any case, I said that people are charging what they want to charge; in my mind, that's a fair price. If we disagree, I can live with that!sjdisneywedding said:ok then if everyone thinks the price is fair then why does everyone post the question on the boards "why do points rent for so little?"[...]
Wrong. I said that I was done no disservice, so the use of the word "all" was inappropriate. I in no way said that no DVC member is disserviced.sjdisneywedding said:so by saying renting points cheaply does no disservice to you then that must also apply to dvc members as a whole, so no dvc member is disserviced at all.
Let's take a look, shall we?sjdisneywedding said:I dont think skelooch meant it is a disservice to every single dvc member
"Absolutely think" - well no ambiguity there. "does a disservice to all members" - no ambiguity there. Sorry; as written, skelooch did indeed mean "all" - every single - DVC member.skelooch said:I absolutely think renting points cheaply does a disservice to all members and cheapens our investment.
Thanks, Joe, for a well-needed dose of insanity!jmminarik said:We all can't agree that OKW is the bestest resort in the World...how can you expect 90K+ owners to agree on a single price for renting?![]()

Glad I know you don't mean me - 'cause I've lots of better things to do; I've just got the time to do them all!JimFitz said:[...]Some people have nothing better to do than bicker with people.![]()
