Is your middle-schooler on Facebook?

Just wondering here,

About over half of my daugther's middle-schooler classmates are on Facebook. Yes, they're not 13 yet.....all 11 year olds.

Just wondering if this rave is an isolating situation or is it very common throughout the country.

My DD has been on facebook since she was 13. I am also one of her friends so that I can keep an eye on her there.

We let our daughter get an account this summer and many kids in her grade are on it too. She is in 8th grade and is 13 1/2. She has told me many 7th graders are on FB too.

Good luck making the decision. My DD isn't on it too frequently, and the only way she was allowed to get an account was if she friended me!

my 9 year old (4th grade) has been on facebook about 6 months. He has 3 or 4 friends from his class that are also on. We don't live near family and this is a way that he can keep in touch with the "day to day" things with cousins, aunts, and grandparents. On friday nights, he and his friends "meet" on face book to play games together.

My 12 year old nephew is on Facebook. His mom (my sister) is one of his "friends", as am I. He chats with some of his friends and he's only allowed on the computer when his mom is in the room. She has his password information so she can check up on things whenever she likes, with the exception of live chats of course.

We have a 15 year old cousin (2nd cousin), however, that is on Facebook. She has accepted me as one of her friends, but refuses to accept her mom's friend request. Her mom can't log onto her account either. I've seen some of the things she writes and it is shocking to me. I think she does it since she knows her mom can't monitor her. I've only taken the liberty to rat her out on things that would be dangerous, like possible alcohol consumption.

I think it is more common for teens and tweens to be online like this, but I think it's still important to monitor EVERYTHING.

My twin 13 year old DD's are both on Facebook. They had to be each others friend and so aren't I. They also friended their older sister, so I feel very comfortable. I check it about once a day, and their profile photos are not a headshot.

We let DS13 have an account, but it came with stipulations: He had to friend me and I had to have his password. I don't ever check it, but he knows I can. He also is only allowed to friend people from school or our family.

Yes, she's 13, and she had to friend me (and her grandmother ). For a while, she said she had no interest, because apparently Facebook is for old people, but her friends did it, so she did it.

DD who is 11, just asked me if she could last night!! I said no way. Some kids from her class are on there, and one of them has a bunch of teachers as his page. DD said last week one teacher told him to change his profile pic as soon as he got home. He's a big guy, and probably the nicest teacher they've ever had, but they think he's scary.

If and when DD is on there, there will be rules. 1. Friend me & family or don't bother. 2. No info about where you live, etc and 3. I have access.

DD 11 has one. I have her password, she knows I can access at any time. Also, she cannot add friends without me seeing who first and approving it.

My 8th grader has one with my permission. I can (and do) monitor it. I also have a FB page and we're "friends." I waited a long time to give her permission but have been happy so far with the way she's handled herself.

No, my 12 year old 7th grader is not on FB. Many of his friends are, but he isn't.

I told him I'll consider it next year when he's 13 and in 8th grade.

Personally I view FB as a myspace for adults and hope the youngins stay off of it until they can "legallly" have an account.

My DS 11 has one. Both his father and I are his friends and I have his password. He basically only uses it to play Farmtown and some other games. He has 1 of his classmates as a friend but the rest are all family members.

I coach baseball and over 1/2 of my 9 and 10 year old team has a facebook account, including our son. As stated earlier, it is a great way to keep in touch with out of town friends and family. They play games often.

Our son has former teachers as friends, but out of mutual respect, we do not let him have his current teacher as a friend.

My 14 year old DD has a FB account but she doesn't really use it because she thinks it's for old people. She does have a MySpace account that she uses a whole lot more often. I'm friends with her on there, plus I have her password. I don't check it a whole lot, but I do monitor it some.

My 11 y.o. brother does not have one. I'm 15 and I've had one since I was 13.
