Luckily, I've never had a cat who wasn't. As I am typing right now I have one drapped across my neck/chest. DH and I have 3 cats. Two of them more affectionate than the other but all still snugglers.

I have however, met other people's cats that couldn't be bothered.

=^..^=

My cat has to come around for a love fest at least 2-3 times per day. :cat:

Two out of three of my cats are very affectionate. The middle one is just somewhat. Bambi will be pet or hugged when she wants to be petted or hugged and only then. Although the oddest thing is Bambi is the one who gives the most kisses. :confused3

Nope...Tigger isn't very cuddly...only when he wants to be.

He'd be laying on the floor and you'd sit down next to him to pet him and he'd stand up and move just out of your reach and you'd be like..."What was that for?" lol

we have 2 very different cats.

dylan is a hairless cat, they are known to be very affectionate and he doesn't disappoint. he prefers my dh over anyone else, but will snuggle with me if i have his favorite blanket. somedays it seems that him and dh were separated at birth, they even have their own language. and dh was NOT a cat person, he grew up with only dogs.

cookie, is the 'bored of humans' type. she'll put up with anything the kids dish out though. of course we don't let the kids torture her, they know that if she gets up and walks away that cookie is through playing. she only wants contact with me or dh when she's cold!

the 2 of them together are just like human siblings, they play, fight, share food. it's really cute how they interact.

Not only is this cat affectionate, but he will play hide n' seek with you...it's soooo funny. :)

And he has his own hidden Mickey on his butt! :) See it? :)

My girls demand affection! If I am busy with something and don't pay attention to them, they will meow to be petted and then they will purr like crazy. Sometimes they get a little too clingy. One will sit on my chest and start to nip my shirt- "love nips" I call them.

Both of my cats are pretty affectionate especially at night. They also follow me around everywhere I go which isn't really a good thing in the middle of the night when it's dark and I trip over them trying to rub against my legs!

All 4 of my cats are attention hogs. In fact, I have one of them on my lap right now. Another one torpedoes at me every morning as soon as she thinks I'm awake. All of them also really like sleeping with DH and me :)

It's kind of funny to see so many people say that their cats are unlike the stereotype of what cats are like!

My sister has 2 very UN-affectionate cats, the ones that are the dictionary definition of the stereotypical cat, but any I have ever had have been pretty affectionate. Right now, my cat, Ally, is trying to nudge the laptop out of my lap so she can sit there. :rotfl:

My cats are very loving. The love to destroy things (i.e. carpet, couch, walls, chairs, etc).

Both of our cats are very affectionate. DH got them from a friend of a friend when they were kittens (sisters from the same litter), and he is clearly their "daddy". Rosalind in particular adores him and has a special purr that is just for DH, and he is the only one who can pick her up and hold her for longer than a few minutes. With DH, Rosalind is a total love-bug all the time. With me, Rosalind will beg for attention, snuggle up with me in a chair or on the couch, curl up on my feet at bedtime, etc. but she won't let me pick her up and hold her in my arms for more than a few minutes before she gets squirmy.

Beatrice, on the other hand, we call the "purr hussy". That cat adores everyone, and she will climb into any available lap to insist on some loving. She likes to show off her pretty white tummy and beg for a tummy rub, and if she isn't getting any petting she will reach out and pat us with her paw until we give her the attention she wants.

Rosalind is our shy cuddle-bug, and Beatrice is the big flirt, but they both are very affectionate with us. I know it is because of how DH raised them (and spoiled them sometimes before we were married!). He says that when they were kittens they would curl up next to him on his pillow and he would fall asleep to a "purr symphony" with both of them purring in his ears.

Our cat is like a bottomless pit of emotional need. She is always looking for someone's attention...ANYONE'S attention  It can be nice, but it can also be irritating when you're trying to get something done. I would describe her as akin to a permanent 2 year-old.

Our deceased cat was very standoffish. My mother used to refer to him as a "real" cat :rotfl:

My cat hates us. Well, maybe not hate, but she's pretty indifferent. She spent her first two months as a feral kitten. When we got her, she had an eye infection and was totally covered in fleas. So we were constantly picking her up and putting drops in her eyes and treating her for the fleas. It's been 13 years now, but like any cat, she knows how to hold a grudge! We love her though.

I have four cats, all with completely different temperaments and attitudes!

All are affectionate but some more than others. Some want it only from me, then some want it from me AND my son. All in all I love the unconditional love they give and actually feel sorry for anyone who has never been the recipient of that kind of love.

I will say that adopted cats can sometimes take a really, really long time to show their true nature, as far as trusting.

You ain't kidding! We adopted my oldest when she was a couple months old. She is now 15. She used to hide all the time and spend weeks outside in the summer. She would only come around for food. About a year or two ago she started spending the entire day on the living room couch. I guess she decided we aren't so terrible to be around. Now she asks for a pet every now and then. So she isn't exactly affectionate, but at times she wants nothing but to be pet.

My middle cat isn't completely affectionate either. He likes to be pet, when he wants it. But as he has gotten older he likes attention more. He will follow you around the house waiting for you to pick him up and pet him. When he's had enough he will naw on your finger and run away. So he only likes to be pet when it's convenient for him.

My youngest is the most affectionate. He was a barn cat that we took in. So he is skiddish at times and does like to hide. But if he is in the mood (which is most of the time) he will crawl in your lap and beg for attention. He loves his belly to be rubbed. He will sit next to you and rub on your hand. He absolutely loves to be pet. He is definitely a lap cat (when he isn't running scared).

My cats are very affectionate, and not at all standoffish. We got them from the humane society when they were very small kittens. They were pretty skittish at first, but became very affectionate once they got used to us. Now they pretty much won't leave us alone - if there is a lap available, they will jump in it. I tease DH that our female cat is his other girlfriend! They love the kids, too. Our male cat follows me into each girl's room in the morning to wake them up, and in the night time to tuck them in.

My 2 sweet Siamese kitties are such lovers. I can't comb my hair in the am without Minnie on my shoulder. Wendy cuddles with us and we carry her around while lying on her back. She is a real "baby". When they are getting belly and chest rubs you can hear them purring from across the room. The only way my 2 act like what the legend of Siamese says is that they are very verbal. They "talk" to us all of the time.

Right now DS is taking Minnie for her chemo treatment and it is a 77 mile drive, she will talk and complain the entire trip up and most of the way back.

Our latest kitty is a street cat too. She was found behind some supermarket with some other kittens. She also has conjunctivigtis so we have to put ointment in both her eyes and she takes an antibiotic too. Poor baby. She's been on all that stuff for a week already.
She is such a lovey cat though. Even while we're putting the stuff on she's purring and then she doesn't run away right away (like I would expect) and wants to be pet some more.

I've only met a few cats in my life that were truly standoffish all the time. I think when most people think of cats as unaffectionate or standoffish, it's because they're comparing cats to dogs, who are clingy and needy and affectionate 100% of the time.

Cats, however, are generally pretty affectionate.... when they want to be. If they want to cuddle with you, they're going to do it no matter what. If you want to cuddle when them and they're not in the mood, it's not gonna happen. :p

Both my current cats can be both affectionate or standoffish, depending on their moods.
