Is your body temp. below 98?

Do you typically have a body temperature a bit on the low side? Mine has always been below 98 (ranging from 97.something to 96.something). The doctor has always told me this is not something to be worried about.

I just wondered how common this is?

I use to use a temp method to watch for ovulation. My temps woukld be low like that, then after ovulation peek, then go down. I never have a temp above 98* and generally it is 97*.

Yes Im 96.4 all the time.

Mine is usually REALLY low... somewhere around 96. I too am often cold when others are warm (I LOVE an 88 degree day and feel rather comfortable), and I also feel extremely feverish when my temp is 99 or so.

My doctor has also told me not to worry about it.

me too!:)

Thank you all for your input-it's helpful to know that this is common! Your description of fever temps is also helpful-I always thought I just never got fevers, even when I felt feverish. Right now for instance I've felt like crap all week (sore throat, exhausted, headache) and my temp right now says 99.2.

My mom actually has thyroid disease and is on meds for it.

I do have some symptoms that I'm reading about-tendency of depression, very heavy periods, dry skin (though it IS winter!), but I do not tend to get cold easily. Actually at night I find myself constantly a little too warm.

Is there any relation to thyroid issues and weight gain?

I think I am going to bring this up to my doctor.

i'm usually on the higher end. probably around a high 99 or low 100. when other people are cold, i'm still warm, sometimes hot. i love air conditioning, and i have it on almost all the time, especially when i sleep.

I think it's worth getting checked out, especially if you've had recent weight gain with your other symptoms. How is your pulse rate? When my thyroid went wonky, my resting pulse went down to around 55 beats per minute...

My body temp is really low and I'm always cold! I'm comfortable in 80 degree weather or warmer. My husband is a doctor and has checked my thyroid a million times over the past 20 years and always says "I can't believe it's normal!"

Yes. Everything slows down with Hypothyroidism, including your metabolism (especially your metabolism). It's more difficult for me to lose or maintain weight when my numbers are off.

When my Hypo was really bad I got cold easily, but when it was just bad or slightly bad, I didn't. Other symptoms for me were losing my hair and bad body aches and pains. Oh, and loss of focus and concentration.

What is the treatment for this? Prescription meds? Did you change your diet?

mine runs higher than 98.6. i have been turned down from giving blood because my temp was too high and i was feeling absolutely fine.

I've always run a low temp. usually around 96.7-97.4. The bad thing is that when i get to a 99, it is like I am running around 101-102:sick:

Yep. My sister and I both have low body temps. By the time you hit 99 you feel like you are burning up!

Me too. I had a complete workup for "fever of undetermined origin".
Everything was negative.

I'm the same way! When I was in school and had to go to the nurses office when I was sick and they took my temperature, if it was around 99 degrees they'd think I was fine and wouldn't believe me when I told them I had a lower body temperature and sent me back to class.

I always had that happen too! It stuck. I hover in the 96's so I'm really low and always cold!

My thyroid has been checked a zillion times too.

Yes, prescription meds. I believe Synthroid is most commonly prescribed. I changed my diet only because I wanted to lose weight and it came off so much easier once I was on the medication.

Thank you-I am going to talk to my doctor. My mom has thyroid disease as well.

I'm glad this was posted. Sometimes my DH's temp drops abnormally low for no apparent reason, like 95-96, but it's usually normal at 98. The only reason I know is because when it happens he looks like garbage, pale and ill but once he temp goes back up he's fine. I have called the Dr a few times over it and they are always telling me its no big deal... how is that not a big deal? Now that I know about the Thyroid I can at least ask them about that but it sounds doubtful. I wonder, is there ever a reason why it swings low? I mean who on earth gets spontaneous hypothermia? :confused3
