Is TRAVEL INSURANCE worth it?

So glad the OP started this topic because I really don't know what KIND of insurance to get.

We're going on a cruise and want to be safe in case of weather problems, health problems or a work/family crisis. We're driving to the port.

Can anyone recommend a type/level of coverage that is good?

I looked on insuremytrip and there were over 90 plans that were available.

I am overwhelmed with the choices and have no idea what a coverage should include.
:confused3

lots of choices...but not all apply to you. I used look for a plan that covers evacuation to my home if I am placed in a hospital while abroad (now my helath insurance actually covers this!). So it varies by case what you should be looking for. I usually try to find one that includes kids for free and includes some basic medical and trip delay.

I think the last time I purchased I got a travelguard plan. Also have used travelsafe.

For cruise travel insurance I would want at least $100,000 in medical evacuation coverage. It can be very expensive to get you off the ship and back home or to Miami.

I generally fly SW. That means I get a full credit if I don't fly. Rental agencies don't have a penalty. Disney will work with you if you have to reschedule. I'd only consider travel insurance for a WDW trip if I had a large penalty. Maybe if I was renting DVC points or a vacation home.

we never purchased it until this year and I am happy that we did. We started out on a great 10 day trip. We were beyond excited. Arrived on Saturday, made it until Monday morning at 10am when we got the call that a close family member had been in an car accident and didn't make it. We stayed 2 more days, leaving late on Wednesday to be there for the funeral Friday. We would have left sooner but my family insisted that we stay until we knew more about the arrangements. Disney was really good to us. We got all our money back for the nights that we did not stay, so we will not travel with out it again.

The best few dollars we ever spent. Plannned a trip, had it all paid for and the night before we were to leave mu FIL had a severe heart attack. We got back every penny we paid in full (minue the insurance payment):thumbsup2
