I don't understand that. If you are just one person and you are at a table meant for 2 then they're getting screwed out of the other tip anyway. What are the options for 1 person? Can we eat only at places with single seating at a counter? If not are we obligated to tip double or triple? I have never thought so.

If that were the case then solo diners would be limited to restaurants with bar area seating, which would be, Flying Fish, Jiko, CA Grill, and Wolfgang Puck.

Citricos also has such seating.

There are numerous other bars and lounges that offer food. I eat at those often. Many of them can't take the dining plan for payment.

But I have never actually heard as a point of etiquette that single diners shouldn't book tables because all tables are meant for parties larger than one.

I've seen plenty of solo diners at table service restaurants at WDW so they are definitely not limited to/relegated to counters. Just because a server is assigned to a table that seats two or four or six or whatever doesn't mean that it's the number of diners who will show up. We've been seated at tables for two at WDW and also occasionally at very large ones even tho' our ressie was clearly for two. It's all the luck of the draw for the servers.

Does that mean I should always double my tip when I dine solo, since I am always seated at a two-top, and I've "cheated" my server out of that second person's tip.

If you booked a deuce and showed up as an ace, then yes b/c the waiter was under the impression that there would be 2 at the table. If you booked for ace and got a deuce, then no b/c that's how WDWDining decided to seat you. It's not rocket science.

Honestly, who cares. It should be first come first serve. So I'm sorry, but people who have a larger party size of perhaps 3, should not be entitled to more meal options than a party of 1 or 2. If you wanted the reservation, wake your back side up earlier and get on the phone and get your reservations. If you miss out due to this situation, it has nothing to do with someone cheating the system and everything to do with them being better prepared and better planners! As for the servers missing out on revenue, that is a flaw on Disney's part for not having more tables to accommodate smaller parties, as these tables could always be pushed together to make larger tables for larger parties, if that was who made the reservations first.

Yeah, I know. A party of one sat on a table for two is common. Parties of two may be sat of tables built for 3, 4, or even 5. So, booking a party of 3, and showing up as one could have you sat at a table for 4. Sucks to be that server!
