Personally, i think that you should go for it! I know i will probably get flamed for this but that whole "cheating my family" is just insane to me!! The way i interpret that is, you are not entitled to eat there because your party is only 1 and not 2 or 3! Thats just silly! You go, and eat at your favorite places, and have a great time!!!! Life is too short my friend!!!!

Based on some reading over the last few months you may also want to try for a table for 2.....some CM's are literally looking for a table for one from what I have heard.

Would it be wrong to make an ADR for three people, if there's nothing available for one? I'm not trying to cheat the system, I'm just having trouble getting the ADR, and I know there are more tables available for larger parties.

You're not trying to cheat the system, you're trying to beat the system, but I don't think it's wrong.

I believe in playing by the rules, at Disney and otherwise... we don't double book ADR's, we don't double book resorts or stick 5 people in a room for 4, we don't cheat on our taxes, etc., but I think Disney's Dining Reservation system should be on a first come (or call) bases.

Disney will allow a solo traveler to book a room with any occupancy rate, because Disney will get their money. They don't hold a room for 4, (2A & 2C)if a solo traveler makes a reservation first, because there is no extra money involved in it for them. If a solo diner calls before a family of 3 or 4 or 5... they should be given a reservation, if a seat is available.

For the record - With 5 children, and a park commando husband, I have never traveled solo to Disney.

Perhaps my math is off but...

You are making reservations for three. You plus your CM friend are still only 2. You are still reserving a table for a party of a different size. I'm not sure how this changes the rightness/wrongness of your plan.

Singles and doubles are generally placed at tables of 2 while groups of three are placed at four tops - adding your CM friend doesn't change anything.

Maybe my friend can bring a friend too. I know that's a longshot, but it could happen.

How about cheating the server out of a tip? Did that ever dawn on anyone!? A table of 3 is going to have a higher bill and the tip will be higher than that of a table of one. So, by taking a table for 3 when you're a solo party, you're cheating the server out of a better tip. He's expecting 3 in the party, only one shows up and his tip is down. That's a really nice thing to do to someone who is trying to make a living. Are you going to take a table for 3 and tip like a table for 3? If so, then no problem. If not, then it's wrong.

Instead of just guessing, why not contact your CM friend and ask if he would like to join you and if he'd like to bring a friend along? That seems far more simple and the right thing to do.

Why don't you make an ADR for 2 instead of 3? I am usually a party of 2 and have never had a problem getting an ADR. You would be " denying" fewer people the ability to eat at that place this way...

That's absurd! First, I've been a solo diner at restaurants and been seated at a table for four. Did I "cheat" the waiter out of a tip? Or is it only "wrong" at Disney?

Second, a waiter is tipped for the amount of work. Serving 1 is less work than serving 3 or 4. That's why a tip is a percentage of the check, and not a "fee for dining."

I don't see a problem here.

They DO only ask how many are in your party. They fail to specify how many live human beings are in your party! Can you imagine the phone call: How many is in your party? You say 3. And IF they ask if theres any childern, just say nope. Just me, a mouse and a duck! Hey no where in the rules does it say ONLY living human beings can be accounted for!

I see nothing wrong with this at all! Since Disney seems to be discriminating against single dinners lately, it is sometimes the only way to get a table.

We have a friend from "Out of Town" who always makes adr's for 6 and then invites us "locals" to join her when she is here. Trust me, she is never lonely for dinner

I'm not sure which restaurant have tables for 3, most are 2 or 4 anyway. I don't think it's wrong to have an empty seat at a table. Disney can't expect to have 100% capacity even during free dining. Many times we as a party of 5, had to pull up an extra chair into our table of 4 to fit all 5 of us. Maybe I should have not tipped for one of us, by your logic since it was a table for 4 really, LOL. I think the wait staff is very busy and one half empty table isn't a big deal. It's more rude to the solo traveler to be denied access to a restaurant that isn't as of yet booked to capacity.

I tried to get 1900 park fare for 5 and they only had a table for 6 and wouldn't give it to me.

I also was refused seating once at 50s prime time for showing up with a party smaller than what we booked (two people last minute didn't come)

I guess do what you want, but it's situations like this that prevent us from being able to get reservations.

I bet a million bucks that one of the reasons it's impossible to get ressies is because so many people have multiple reservations booked as well for the same meal.

I wish hamburgers and chicken fingers appealled to me for the whole week because I'm finding it a pain to keep calling to try to get reservations! LOL

Honestly, except for MK (where the only decent food is at Liberty tree tavern, IMO), we have found some reallly creative, delicious food at counter service

Does that mean I should always double my tip when I dine solo, since I am always seated at a two-top, and I've "cheated" my server out of that second person's tip.

I wouldn't be comfortable meeting up with a stranger, unless it's someone I felt I "knew" very well.
