Is This Wrong?

I bet a million bucks that one of the reasons it's impossible to get ressies is because so many people have multiple reservations booked as well for the same meal.
I would never make double bookings. I think it's different to make many ADRs, and not show up, then it is to book one for an "extra" person, and show up with one less in your party.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I called recently and tried to get a table for 5 at CRT and nothing was available. I then asked, "Is a table for 6 available?" She replies, "Yes, there is" I said ok a party of 6 then. She had absolutely no problem with it and didn't even question me. She totally understood and actually laughed about it. A party of 5? A party of 6? Isn't it the same size table?! :confused3 I told my hubby what I did (he is oblivious to ADR's and anything Disney) and he said that was nutts that they would turn down a family of 5 but ok a family of 6 when it is the same size table. Crazyness. The system is totally flawed and some people are getting turned down for restaurants that they want because they don't have an extra person.

I am extremely excited about eating at CRT for the first time. Flame me, get me, tell me off. I don't care, you still won't wipe the smile off my face! :goodvibes pssst I also got Le Cellier, but that is for a party of 5 so you can't yell at me for that :cheer2: :lovestruc

Does that mean I should always double my tip when I dine solo, since I am always seated at a two-top, and I've "cheated" my server out of that second person's tip.

My goodness, no. Tip on what you order.

I just got off the phone with the most wonderful CM ever. I was trying to get my dinner ADR, and there was nothing available for the night I wanted. :guilty: But she said there was one spot open for the next night, so I made it, and then moved the restaurant I was eating at the next night, to the night I needed an ADR, so I'm all set. :goodvibes

ETA - Both of my new reservations are for a party of two.

Wow..bummer for me. I got turned down for a table for 6 at 1900 park fare because there were only five in my party. I should have lied like you did and then my daughter could have gotten to dine with Cinderella. :(

It's funny that some people are so rediculas about this..lol. I would definately suggest that some people get a life...:rotfl2:

Anyway.. last year we stayed at BC for 10 nights. I made my adr's like I do every year. I didn't have too much of a problem with most of them, only a few did I have to call a couple of times to get adr's. When we arrived at the restaurants, all of the adr's we made the first time I called (which was the majority of them) were made for a table of 3. I was pretty confused since it's only myself and dd. The cm who made the adr's was well aware it was only the 2 of use since I had a long pleasant conversation with her. I simply told the cm's upon checking in to the restuarant that we were 2, not 3, and I had not one problem at all.
Since that time I realized that the cm who made the ressies probably couldn't get a table of 2 for the places I wanted so she took it upon herself to change my ressies for 3 so I could get the adr's I wanted. I never asked her too... but had I known I would have NO problem doing that. The "not getting a tip" for the amount of people expected is rediculas..lol. And as one pp said, it's first come first serve.

This year, I booked for CG. You need a cc for that. It was a table for 4 because my cousin and her dd were supposed to meet us that day (they live in Tampa). Then a week before she didn't sound so positive and I got nervous since the table was held with my cc. I called and asked what would happen if 2 didn't show up, because I booked a ressie for someplace that took a cc hold. The cm said they could (but may not) charge for the 2 who didn't show.. so I was going to change to another restaurant. But the cm asked me to hold, and came back to tell me that the table was a table for 4.. just reserve it for 2 and if my cousin did show up they would be able to be seated with us. That's what I did. It was very nice of her to check.

For the ppl making ressie for more ppl than there will be at the table for restaurants that take a cc hold, be sure they won't charge you if someone doesn't show up.

To my3sons77: I have to apologize. I did not mean to be sarcastic. GOOD FOR YOU! for getting your CRT

I'm personally on disney overload! I had no idea when planning this last minute trip how hard it would be to get ADR! I have decided I'm taking this whole food thing waaaayyyyy to seriously. I think I'll grab some wine, a PBJ, and a Pixie Dust chill pill!!!

When I called last week and tried to get 1900 Park Fare for 5 and she said "ya wouldn't want to bring one more person would you?" I said "huh?" she said she had a table for six and could only book party of 6 and not 5. I said "that's ridiculous! you're gonna turn down a family of 5 because of ONE less person? so basically you DO have availability for 5 but Disney doesn't want to lose their $25" I can understand not giving a table for 5 or 6 to a party of 2 but good grief! Because of our previous experience at 50s prime time showing up with less than in our party and how much grief they gave us, I am afraid to book something for more than our party size.

We are staying at GF and that is where that restaurant is so I'm just gonna hope for a last minute cancellation.

If I could get into a place like CRT, which I'm just not going to attempt right now, i would be willing to pay the missing person fee if any just to go!

You are cheating, plain and simple. How could you possible think this is right. You are lying, and that is a mortal sin, no matter how small the lie.

You are very mean for even thinking of doing this.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Did I get ya. Only joking, hey in the scheme of things this is not bad at all, go for it. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I didn't read all the replies you got, but I see nothing at all wrong with it.

However, there are many self-rightous types out there, who might actually flame you, so you are warned.

Good Luck.

My mom taught me when i was five if i had to ask if something was wrong it probably is and i shouldnt do it.

Won't Disney charge you if you have one less person?

Your being redicolus. Enough said.

How about cheating the server out of a tip? Did that ever dawn on anyone!? A table of 3 is going to have a higher bill and the tip will be higher than that of a table of one. So, by taking a table for 3 when you're a solo party, you're cheating the server out of a better tip. He's expecting 3 in the party, only one shows up and his tip is down. That's a really nice thing to do to someone who is trying to make a living. Are you going to take a table for 3 and tip like a table for 3? If so, then no problem. If not, then it's wrong.

Folks, any more fighting on this thread is going to get it closed.

I was actually told to do this by an ADR CM once many years back. I think we were trying to get into Cindy's with a party of two and she said, "You know, it's shame you don't have three. You could, and then the third person might not show up." She repeated that twice and I caught on and said, "Oh, yes, actually it's three." Not something I would have thought of on my own, but since she "suggested" it I saw nothing wrong with it. That was before you needed a CC to guarantee the castle, and we had no trouble at the podium with the size change.

I think since CM's suggest it, that means Disney doesn't have a problem with it, like using expired FP's, (but that's a whole other debate.)

That doesn't make sense, because as I understood it (maybe the UG book?) all of the tables had seating for even numbers, so a party of 5 would be seated at a table for 6 at CRT. This was the case at every other table service restaurant we've eaten at. There was always an extra seat for our odd numbered group. I hated it especially at sci-fi because someone always got stuck by themselves because the cars aren't wide enough for 3 across.

Another CM told me that most of those tables ARE for 5/6 but she's only seen a few that are specifically 6. Maybe it's just some select locations?

I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gotten deluxe dining because I feel compelled to fill in all those meals. KWIM? Meanwhile, it's 5pm here and I've yet to have a complete meal today....LOL

Would it be wrong to make an ADR for three people, if there's nothing available for one? I'm not trying to cheat the system, I'm just having trouble getting the ADR, and I know there are more tables available for larger parties.

Good luck on the "3 people thing"! :goodvibes

We are truly a party of three, but recently had to cut a big portion of our trip down and rearrange the remaining days. I had made wonderful ADR's 180+ days out and had to cancel many good ones, like CRT, Coral Reef, PH, Tony's, Boma, WCC, Chef Mickey's, ect... and am having a dickens of a time getting new ones. I do call several times daily, to no avail! :confused3 I was blessed (by a very generous Disboard member) with her Coral Reef dinner ADR... but that ADR came from the generousity of another, not from being able to procure any in-park ADR's during our time frame.

I am not taking a stand either way (as to if I feel this is right or wrong) but I just wanted to make you aware that three people are having a horrid time getting new ADR's as well!

Good luck, I hope you can at least get into a place or two that you really want! :flower3:

Thanks, all of my trouble is from changing my trip dates too.

Didn't read any of the responses, but the big thing is that you are screwing over the server. At a busy restaurant, they keep the tables full. That server who has a 3 person table is expecting 3 people, not 1. Take Ohanas for example. 3 adults and you're close to $100, so thats a $15-20 tip. If only one person shows up, thats $30 ,thus a $5 tip or so.
