I called today and made ressies for June. The MS CM was polite and professional (Carla), not particularly friendly or chatty...but not rude or beligerent in any way...just professional...which was fine...they are just usually a little more chatty.

Anyway, I booked a studio for Mom and I (to save a few points) and she asked how many adults...children..etc..just like always.

Then she wanted the NAME of the second adult in the room...I've never been asked that before, unless I was specifically booking more than one room because guests would be joining us.

Was this a fluke, a new security thing, or was she just being helpful in case one of us were to arrive earlier than the other, especially since our stay includes GayDay weekend? Or maybe they are tracking individual guests (some time ago I called Dining, and they mentioned that WDW was switching to a new ressie computer system.)

I just thought it was an unusual question.

I made a ressie today through MS and they did not ask me any other names in our party. However, last night I called the regualr reservations number (not MS) and I had to give names, ages, phone number and my address, before they would give me a rate on a regualr room!! I asked what was with all the questions, just to get a room rate. He told me that their system now requires it to give out pricing. Not sure how true that is, but it took forever just to get a basic question answered.

I know that my wife arrived several hours after me several years ago and because her name wasn't on the reservation, they wouldn't let her in the room or even confirm that I had checked in.

She was not happy.

Someone posted on the resorts board that they were asked the names of everyone in their room plus the birthdates of children. The cm said it was a new security rule. It's been my experience that sometimes they ask, sometimes they don't. It's good to have the names just in case someone has an emergency call to the resort, they can track down people easier.

I guess it must be part of their new computer program...I know it was suppossed to integrate (even more so), your special events tickets, Dining PSs, room ressies, etc. It probably also gives them more marketing info.

Reservations made through CRO have required this info for quite a while. This is for security for both Disney and the resort guest and unless the person's name is one the reservation they will not only not be allowed to check in, they will also not be given any info regarding the room like room #.
I have been giving this type of info about my traveling group for quite a few years with reservations made through CRO; with DVC reservations I have been requested this type of info on a sporadic basis--maybe they are now enforcing it??
Unfortunately, Disney often gets this info all messed up in their systems--example, they had ONLY my kids listed in their system for my NJ home and only me listed for my FL home, even though I have made reservations from both addresses many, many times and really they should not have the kids listed at all, since they have never made a reservation through CRO or MS and have certainly NEVER paid the bill! LOL!!

I've noticed similar requirements at many hotels and believe it is additional security measures. It is a sad commentary on the times in which we live.

Possibly Disney has other needs, marketing and market research, better guest services and the like.

I don't understand this. What does Gay Day weekend have to do with one of you arriving earlier than the other?

I guess I should have clarified my statement...

Groups traveling together may be arriving on different flights or different times, and due to the increased security at the resort gates, they usually at least ask for the last name of the party. The reason I mentioned GayDay as a possibilty is that it is more common for adults in the room to have different last names, rather that the usual husband/wife Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Instead you'll have Mr. John Smith and Mr. Hank Jones, so the guard shack would have all the last names of all the parties in the rooms :)

I really don't think this is new. I have always been asked the names of persons in our party. If I don't know at the time of the ressie, I always call back when I do know and have them added. This is especially true if I know the guests aren't arriving with us.

I have always been asked the names of the people in my party and their ages. Then it has been clarified to me that I have two adult, two juniors and two children (or whatever depending). I always thought it was so they could have the room keys made up ahead of time before we check in.

Also, I didn't know if it is so they can cross check when you make p.s. arrangements, because I am always asked which resort I am staying at.

I think Chuck hit it on the head. Their new computer system TRACKS EVERYTHING. Where you stay, what you purchase, etc. As a renter, we have been asked names and ages for the last 5 years. Last January , it was shocking that they knew that my DD had turned 18 and that there would be an upcharge for the third adult. Before I could even spit it out! Sounds like the DVC has started operating under the new system, also.
