Is this possible?

Booked our free dining package for our stay at Pop Century (2nd week of December). Condition of free dining was purchasing park hopper tickets for each member in party. I have just recently begun to sit down and plan our days in detail and realized that we really only need about 3 days of park hopping (staying for 9 days total). Is there any way to just buy 3 days of park hopper and still keep free dining package (plan to purchase 5 day base tickets for remainder of days). Is this even possible?

No. The park hopper option is an additional flat fee. If you add it, it covers park hopping for the entire 8 day ticket. You would actually lose money if you tried to buy a 3 day park hopper and then a 5 day base ticket.

However, free dining only requires a 2 day park hopper ticket. You could stay for all 9 days with only a 2 day park hopper ticket. There is no need to visit a park every day in order to get free dining.

The answer to your question, yes it is possible. But that way will cost you more money.

As PP said, the PH option is a flat fee no matter how many days the ticket is for. An 8 day PH will be cheaper than a 3 day PH and a 5 day Base Ticket combined.

But the free dining has a much higher monetary value tha the park hoppers, so consider it to be part of the price of the ticket.

And sometimes a change in the weather or some other factor makes those park hoppers great to have!

It is possible, but not cost-effective. You can book the package with the minimum number of tickets (2-day PH/person usually) and then buy just base tickets and add them to your account on MDE. But since any tickets get significantly cheaper by the numbers of days you'll pay more that way. You could always take a few days off from the parks for free days like pool day, resort hopping, and wandering Disney Springs.

It's much cheaper to buy an 8 day ticket with parkhopper than a 3 day ticket with parkhopper and a 5 day one park per day ticket.

8 day ticket with parkhopper: $449.00

3 day ticket with parkhopper: $345.00 plus a 5 day base ticket (one park per day): $340 for a total of $685.00

Yhe reason two separate tickets cost so much more is the first 3 days are the most expensive. Disney structures tickets so that it becomes cheaper per day, the longer the ticket length. The fourth day is an additional $35 and the fifth up to the tenth day is $15 per day.

Thank you so much for the awesome breakdown! Staying with the 8 day park hoppers!

Park hopper is a one time charge, no matter how many days you stay. The up-charge for a two day park hopper is the same price ($55 or so) no matter how long you stay.
