I read another post where someone was wondering if they needed to drop a studio from their 2 bdrm LO, would MS allow them to do it.

I have a similar but different question for your DVC veterans out there.

I have two resort ressies coming up; one in late April and one in early May. They are for about the same number of points but at different resorts. Neither of the ressies are actually for me...they are for relatives.

There is a possibility of the April trip having to be cancelled in which case the points will go into holding.

If I called MS (and got a helpful CM) would MS allow me to cancel the April trip, have the points go into holding, then cancel the May ressie and then immediately rebook using my "holding" points ? This would allow the points for the May ressie to be returned to my current UY and get rid of my holding points.

Putting aside the political fall out from my relatives if I tried this and it went south on me, would MS work with me to do this or would I have to run the gaultlet of the "waitlist" and hope no one snatched up the room before MS rebooked it...the May trip is a studio at VWL ?

I have done this with previous resevations when I had points go into a holding status.

I think you'll have to hope for a really nice MS. I don't think it's standard procedure to swap out the points, but I have heard this done. I would just try a few calls to see if you can get someone willing to do this.

An alternative is to do it yourself at a late hour when less people are booking online. Cancel the May reservation and rebook using holding points. You just have to hope the waitlist program's not running!

Good luck! And if my relatives canceled on me like that I'd put them in the "no-no" list. ;)

Ya, if MS would be willing to work with me on this, then I might do it but not if I would have any possibility of losing the ressie altogether because of the waitlist. I would not want to have to explain to my niece, husband and two young kids that I lost their VWL ressie and they have to stay someplace else. Not a smart move for their "favorite uncle !!!"

I have much better luck and less mistakes by MS if I send my request to them via the contact form on the member website. Not having you on the phone waiting for them to do their thing seems to allow them to take their time and do it right. They can double check their work and/or ask for help should they need it.

I believe MS is only allowed to do this if there is a room already open- in other words if the room you vacate would be the only one open then they are not supposed to do this (not saying that someone won't if you get the right person on the phone) but technically if anyone is on the waitlist for those days then it should not be allowed as it overlooks those wanting those rooms and gives priority to your holding points.

There is a real chance you could lose it but the truth is you'd likely be successful. What you should do is see if you can book an alternative option with the holding account points then cancel the other reservation. If you can book a true replacement (same resort, etc) then you're set. At least if there's something else available you could get something even if you lost the preferred option you currently have reserved.
