Is this a really bad idea?

I would do the lunch one. Being at the empty park is very neat, but our family really enjoys lunch at CRT. The parks are hot and crowded at 1:30. It is a great break from all of that, but it is a pretty brisk pace so you are not spending two hours on a meal mid day either. We also find the food at lunch to be more appealing than the breakfast menu.

I would err on the side of caution and keep the lunch reservation. An empty Main St U.S.A. is pretty incredible to see but it won't be much fun if everyone is tired and miserable. For us, the day after we attend MNSSHP is rough. It's the only time, ever, that my DD sleeps in and it's the only day during our vacation that we take it easy in the morning then head to a park in the afternoon.

Just a warning that the boat ride might not be very quick. We have taken the boat from WL for MNSSHP and had quite a wait. We didn't get on the first boat because there were so many people.

Hope you have good luck changing your party dates.

It could be a bad idea they could be tired, grumpy and not enjoy the character interaction as much. I don't think you want to waste your party night by wrapping it up early though. My kids don't tend to sleep in anyway when they have a late night but may nap the next day. I think your plan for the breakfast followed by DTD/resort sounds like a good one

We LOVE LOVE LOVE having those precious few moments basically alone on Main Street and in front of the castle. But that's just my opinion.
Regardless of what you choose, I hope your princess has a wonderful birthday!!princess:

Keep in mind that hours could change between now and then. Just because you currently have a pre park opening ADR now, doesn't mean it will stay that way.

We have an ADR at Akershus the morning after the party. While our ADR is at 10:30, we still have to wake up early to travel to Epcot. I'm a touch worried about it, but don't want to spend too much time at the resort because that's what we have planned to do the day leading up to the party. Plus, I doubt we will stay for the entire party. We want to stay as long as all are having fun. We by no means have the attitude we need to get our money's worth. It's worth the money if we have fun while there. :)

With that in mind, you could do the party for a little bit & the breakfast the next day. I'm sure MK would be pretty low crowds the morning after a party. You could have tons of fun in the morning & then come back for naps in the afternoon when the park starts to get crowded. With all that said, we are not morning people & I don't think we could pull it off, but every family is different.

On the other hand, if you slept in and kept the lunch, your DD would be rearing to go for her bday & wouldn't have to take a nap or disrupt the day. If you do the lunch, you can even order a special princess cake for her birthday. I'm sure with more sleep, everyone would be ready to party!

As I list it all out, I think I would stick with the lunch.

Which meal do you think would make the birthday girl the happiest? The trip is for the entire family, but it is her special day.

I just wanted to come back and quickly update...

I was able to move my MVMCP date to an alternate date (December 8, which is a Sunday). This will mean we will likely not make RD at DHS that day, but perhaps we can plan on arriving by 10:00.

I think lunch would have been fine, but I think starting out her birthday by walking up empty Main Street toward her breakfast at the castle was too tempting for me. I think it was worth the trade off of giving up DHS rope drop. At least I hope it will be.

My other thought was that maybe we will try for a late lunch at BOG, if we can possibly work up an appetite. ;)

My DD7 (whose birthday it is) can also be a picky eater, so the breakfast may appeal to her more.

If we were not able to switch, I would have absolutely kept the lunch, and that would have been fine too. I think you were all correct in that it would have been too much.

Big kudos to Disney's customer service on this one. They were very empathetic to my plight. princess:

Awesome! So glad it worked out. And I think lunch at BOG sounds perfect too. Two castles in one very special day!!! Yes all that far outweighs RD at HS. Have fun!
