Is this a PIN or just a general discount?

I received an email from Disney Destinations, the subject is Check out this magical Disney rate, _____ Family! It gave me a 5 character package code I need to mention. I am a newbie to this whole booking myself thing and have no clue what this is, other than being told about PIN and seasonal discounts, I have no idea what they actually are.

:welcome:

PIN codes (now called "unique offer codes" by Disney) will have a 15 digit all numeric code. What you have there is likely just a promotional mailing for rack rates. Were there any mentions of a percentage off or a discount of any kind?

I can't post screenshots on the thread yet, but it says, "Stay in the middle of the magic in May at select resorts", and that "The offer to the right will be a great way to get the most magic out of my stay."

Sounds like a normal rate offer to me. Have you priced out any trips for May recently? I used to get them 3 or 4 times a week for October. Unless there is a 15 digit code, it is likely for rack rates. The 5 digit code to mention is just to let the CM know how you came about looking into booking a trip.

Yeah, there is only a $5 difference in the total price :( Bummer, are there usually any discounts released for May? I am planning our trip for May 7th through the 14th, so it is over Mother's Day weekend. This will be my daughter's first trip and my second. It will just be the 2 of us, and because she will be 2 at the time of trip, I only have to get a meal plan and tickets for myself. I'm trying to get the cost as low as I can without having to give up things we really need for the trip. With a standard room at Pop, 5-day ticket, MM, DDDP, it is $2,254.47. I am going with the DDDP bc of how my daughter eats, and the fact that table service meals will be much easier than quick service with her.

If low cost is of importance, I would strongly advise you to reconsider that dining plan. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "how my daughter eats"? Does she have a big appetite? Only likes certain foods? $110 per day for one and adult and a two year old is pretty high. Not to mention that 3 table service meals per day will mean 4-5 hours of your day just sitting in restaurants. That's a lot of time, especially if she will need other breaks for naps and such. :goodvibes

I would agree with smitch. The Deluxe Dining Plan would be taking an awful lot of time during your day for meals. If this is her first trip I would maybe rethink the Deluxe plan. What is it about her eating habits that make you feel that this is the only one that will work?

I'm getting pin codes for October so I think it's early for May discounts.

I travel with just my son and while we do character meals, there is no way we could handle several long meals per day. Plus, as an adult it gets really boring with only a child to talk to so we tend to do more quick service. There are also days where we just snack all day (Mickey pretzel here, ice cream there) so the dining plan wouldn't work for us.

If you want to have food "pre paid" you could always buy GCs to use to pay for food.

My daughter eats like a grown man. We don't really do a lot of the fast food type meals at home so I don't want to start that habit while there. I know it is a lot of time to be eating, but I also know that the sit down breaks in air conditioning will be good for my daughter and I because we aren't quite used to the humidity and heat of FL. I can just imagine QS being a huge disaster with me trying to navigate the stroller, carrying the food and trying to find a table. I have been to DW once before in high school, and QS was stressful then, I can only imagine it would be even more difficult with a toddler. Also, I talked to a cast member, they told me my code is a special, limited discount of 30% off of my room for a 5 night stay, which would mean I would still pay full price for the other 2 nights.

My two year old boy ears like a horse. He'd seriously never stop if we didn't get up from the table. There ARE quick service options that aren't standard fast food. At home, we don't eat fast food either. I cook nearly every meal we have at home and in the past, I've cooked on vacation too.

I think if you want to cut your budget, you could get the regular dining plan and if you're not sure that will be enough food, put the rest of your budget on gift cards that can be used on ANY food you want, instead of being locked in to the DDDP. Most of the quick service in World Showcase is phenomenal. And servings are big! Two years we got the sampler plate at the Moroccan pavilion (I'm suddenly not remembering the restaurant or the exact meal we got) and it was PLENTY for DH, myself and our oldest son to share (he was the only one at the time... He was almost 2 and ate like a bird though). The four of us ate at Sassagoula Float Works yesterday morning for breakfast and spent $32ish for a single adult meal, single children's meal, six beignets, juice boxes for the kids, milks for grown ups, and an extra side of sausage. We were all stuffed and couldn't finish it all.
We've also shared roasted chicken from Cosmic Rays.

My least favorite part of our days at Disney are keeping my kids entertained at the table while we wait for food so more than once a day would leave me frazzled and frustrated.
