Is this a good price for a Cricut?

DD's birthday is Sunday. She's been talking about getting a Cricut (she's a big scrapbooker and also said that she could use it as a teacher). Joann's has the large one (Provo Craft Cricut Expression Cutting Machine) on sale for $299. Tomorrow is double discount day for employees so with 30% off, it would come out to just about $210.00

I had my heart set on buying her a piece of Tiffany jewelry for her 21st b-day but DH thinks that we should get her this instead.

I'm looking for suggestions and opinions.

Thanks

I too, am a teacher and own a cricut. I love it, but I think I paid way too much for it. My aunt just found it still on sale at Walmart for $119.00! Now, it's the basic Cricut model, but does your daughter need/want the expressions model? I would personally get the cheaper model and spend the extra money on cartridges. A Diser wrote last week about creativexpress.com having cartridges for $27 each if you buy 4 or more. I ordered 6, they arrived over the weekend and I couldn't be happier! JMHO, but I would call around and see what other places are selling it for before I paid $210.;)

I have the basic model which is awesome! But the Expression allows you cut letters up to 12 inches which would be really useful for a teacher.... and $210 is an awesome price!

PS There is a thread on the scrapbooking board with a link for a free cart when you purchase 2 carts. Mike's has the carts on sale for $49 this week (though your Joann's discount would probably be better!). So you buy 2 carts, make a copy of the receipt, and choose from the list of carts on the rebate form. It's $14.95 shipping. HTH!! :)

The cricut website is also offering a free cartridge of you buy two with an online form.

There are only a limited supply of cartriges, but heck, why not?

Thanks for the responses.

Now, I need to figure out how to sneak into the store to buy it without her seeing me.

Can you use a JoAnns discount on the Cricut? I am pretty sure the coupons that come in the mail exclude the Cricut. But maybe the employees discount is different.

You can use an employee discount on anything in the store. The only exception is that you can not combine a coupon (40% off regular price) with an employee discount.

Also, for what it's worth, DD said that although all of the coupons exclude Cricut the only ones that they will not take are the 40% or 50% off ones. They will accept the coupons that give you an extra amount off if you purchase a certain dollar amount for Cricut products. I pointed out that it says that they're excluded and she said that's just a standard clause that is added to all of the coupons but they were told that it only applies to the 40 or 50%. Does that make sense?

FYI~ Joann also gives teachers a 15% discount card (which is the same as the employee) but I don't think that their discount can be doubled.

Walmart has them for $119, it was the black friday special but my store still has them. They even came with a extra cartridge.:thumbsup2

If you have the money, go with the Expressions. It will cut larger and smaller sizes then the small Cricut. It has other features to, like cut to fit, quantity (good for a teacher-you put in how many you need and if takes more than one sheet, it keeps track for you), flip image and many more. Do I sound like the infomercial yet? :rotfl:

To me, for a teacher especially, the larger is worth the extra $100. Plus there are cartridges that are geared JUST for school. 'Course us scrapbookers can make anything work for our books. ;)

This is what I was thinking

ETA: Should have kept reading!!

Go for it!!

That is an excellent price for the expression, I would definately buy the expression over the original smaller bug, it has so much more versatility. Your daughter will love her Cricut!
