HP Pavilion 17.3" Laptop, AMD A4-6210 Quad-Core 1.8GHz, 8GB DDR3, 1TB SATA, 802.11n, Win8.1 for $379?

I'm trying to research it for our 11 daughter and I truly don't know what to look for and rely on reviews for most purchases. However, this seems like buying a mattress - not two have the same name?!?

She would use it mostly for school (so I believe we'd need to add Word as that's what we currently use) and for Minecraft.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Many thanks in advance!!!!

HP is a good brand. That is a lot of computer for an 11 year old. You probably can get an HP with not as many bells and whistles for about $100 less that will do everything an 11 year old needs.

Wow ~ thanks so much, TVGuy!! I was worried it would not be enough for her to play Minecraft. She got a Microsoft table for much more at Christmas but it would not play Minecraft so it went back.

We teach Minecraft in our computer lab at school with much less computer. ( 5 year old Apple laptops--I know they have 1BG of memory; not sure the hard drive)

Look for 4GB memory & 500GB hard drive can be had for about $250 (I saw a Dell just last week at Office Depot for just that). That is a solid size for most needs.

Thank you, KKB ~ i did pass on the previous becasue it was being offered on WOOT and I didn't feel comfortable with their return policy -- pretty much they advised just sell it on Craigslist.

So, we will continue to watch for the right one for us and the budget.

That is awesome that you teach Minecraft -- makes me feel that she's not just playing. :thumbsup2

Our tech teacher got a grant from our state university last year to get it started in our school & it is the focus of what he does with K-5. It teaches creativity & problem solving among other skills--things employers are saying aren't being taught enough in school!
