Is there much of a show at Teppan Edo?

My DD (age 6) loves a similar place here in our hometown, so I thought I might surprise her with a lunch at Teppan Edo.

I cannot find it now, but I thought that I recently read a review that said the chef at Teppan Edo did not put on much of a show.

The show is my DD's favorite part. Has anyone been recently that can speak to how interactive the chef was?

Thanks!

I've been twice and have had a nice show each time. The kids at our table really enjoyed it! I would say you're at the mercy of your Chef, but, being Disney, you have a better chance of getting a winner than a dud.

Well, don't be expecting anything special, because you'll likely get the same show you get at home. I've been to two different hibachi grill restaurants like this before around home, and along with Teppan Edo, the shows were all the same. Don't get me wrong, the chefs are entertaining and the food is good. But, with numerous other wonderfully themed restaurants available at Epcot, in my opinion I think you'd be happier trying someplace else instead of doing something you can do at home.

It all depends on how entertained you were at YOUR local hibatchi grill. I've been to several in the Dallas area where I live and most chefs looked bored and *ahem* un-authentic. I only had ONE outstanding chef and he's no longer in the business. Now if I lived in uptown New York or something, the entertainment MIGHT be a little higher quality. Been to the Disney one a couple times now I say it is definitely better than what MY local hibatchi grills do.

Bottom line, I think your daughter will be delighted no matter the outcome is (highly doubt it'll be a bad experience since it IS Disney we're talking about)! :wizard:

Thanks for the info! That helps a lot. We will go!

I do not expect much. Any interaction from the chef will be great. And both of us love the menu, so it sounds like a win-win.

I had to laugh when I read MajorThomasina's post. You reminded me of the last time we ate at our hometown restaurant. The chef somehow managed to throw an egg and have it crack right on the gentleman dressed the nicest at our table. The gentleman was so polite about the whole thing, but the chef obviously felt bad. Then the waitress came over to help the gentleman clean up a little, and she chastized the chef. She emasculated him in front of all of us, and it put a dark cloud over the rest of our meal. I wish she had kept her thoughts to herself. He was a really nice chef, and it was obvious he was trying so hard to please us all.

I was there in Nov and we still had a 'show' with our dinner. Volcano onion - waving shrimp tails - they whole thing.

We've been several times. It really depends on the chef you get--some are better than others or having a better day.

I've been to Teppan Edo 6 (maybe 7) times. I've had 1 so-so show, not bad, but not great and the rest have all been really good or great. The women chefs put on a better show and get more involved with the kids. I've been to quite a few similar restaurants in the "real world". Somethings are the same, but they aren't as fun and they tend to be about big flames which is not the case at Teppan Edo.

We love these type of restaurants, but had a bad experience at this one. One of the guests we were seated with ordered a Veg. meal and did not want his food cooked at the same time with everyone elses on the grill. We waited about 30 min. for the chef to come and then close to another 30 before he started our food. He cooked the one persons meal first, then the rest of the tables. It was about an hour and 15 min before we started eating. I understand not wanting any meat near your food, but that grill has been used thousands of times with meat on it. Maybe they could have cooked his food last, or in the kitchen.

TE has never compaired to any of the hibachi style restaurants that we visit around where we live. The show is all the same and the food is subpar at best and the value is pretty bad.

With all the dining options around WDW, might I suggest trying something new or different that your DD or you might enjoy?

Teppan Edo is FAR better than any Teppan style restaurant near where we live. It is a must do for us on each trip.
We like the entertainment and the food.
Enjoy

I appreciate the suggestion, and I will keep my expectations tempered. We are going Deluxe Dining this trip, so it won't hurt too much if this one is a bust. It's just me and my six year old. If we were not having lunch here, we would choose Nine Dragons instead.

In 2008, we tried Tokyo Dining, and it was not good. We ordered sushi and tempura. So I was hesitant to book Teppan Edo. But my daughter LOVES the show, and her two favorite restaurants at home are Texas de Brazil and the local hibatchi grill. I cannot believe how much meat she puts away. She loves it. So we will give this place a try!

I am going to list my other World Showcase ADRs for this trip. Let me know if I left off one that is not to be missed! We have ADRs at Tutto Italia, Les Chefs de France, Biergarten, Le Cellier, and Akershus. Thanks!

This is our absolute favorite restaurant at Disney!!!!!! The food, the service and entertainment are top notch!

We always have this on our #1 list of things to do when we are there!

We always have a good time and enjoy the show. Varies by chef - the best one we had created a tic-tac-toe board using zucchini strips and onion rings, and played a game against my son (6) and the little girl in the party we were seated with (I'd guess she was 4-5). The chef would take a turn, then the kids would alternate doing their turn - at stake was if he would make the onion volcano he had built "erupt" (somehow the kids managed to outwit him and win! ;):lmao:).

Other chefs haven't been that interactive, but they still spent a little more time with the kids than the adults and interacted with everyone at the table (last time the chef was quite taken with the sake sampler a couple of people had ordered and kept threatening to flip shrimp tails into the cups!).

We go to Teppan Edo on every trip. We also have Japanese Restaurants here at home, but we still love going to Teppan Edo. We have had times that the chefs put on an entertaining show, but then there were about 2 times it was lacking. The one thing that does annoy me is that they give everyone about 2 noodles each..lol...:confused3

We have been three times, and the performance is always very good, but not much of a step up from what you may be able to receive locally. But each time is a new experience with a couple different tricks!

What is on the kids menu? Do they select something or is it the same for everyone? We are trying it this trip, my kids are 4 and 7 I just want to make sure they will eat??

Menus can be found here!! I can't post links, but copy n paste should work!!!
