Is there a chance the new ships could have a good deal of stuff the other ships don't have? Could they have Ropes course, thrilling waterslides, and just other stuff like that. I love cruising but id say when I turn 21 id leave Disney just because Im an active person and just prefer things like this.Im 14 so I obviously can't make the travel plans. I hope I don't sound like Im complaining and saying Disney cruises are boring but I wish they would add a few things in the ball park. Thanks!

If you look at the difference between the first two DCL ships and the last two, in my mind, I see more mind-challenging activities added for guests than physical. If you want lots of physical activities aboard ship then perhaps other cruise lines are for you. Personally, I am more impressed with DCL imagineering with virtual portholes, detective agency challenges with activated pictures, MDR shows, etc. than adding a climbing wall. The kids' activity clubs/labs include physical and mental, as well as personal enrichment challenges, so that they have fun and learn from a variety of experiences. I can't wait to see how the three new ships will be equipped. Perhaps they will have an added surf simulator or new physical activity on deck. I bet they put the bulk of their creativity into electronics and mind-blowing new technology. After all, you can get plenty of physical activities during certain port excursions...hikes, zip-lining, rock climbing, etc. We recently finished a week on a DCL Alaska cruise...lots of physical options at every port.

Is there a chance? Sure. Is it likely? Mmmm.... not sure. We'll just have to wait and see. DCL has been successful enough without these things, but I could see them installing a zipline, climbing wall, or surf simulator to appeal more to the teen crowd.

I see where your coming from.

They could but DCL isn't that type of cruise line. The ropes courses would ruin the ability to eatch funnel view or have a clear open sky for fireworks. That or they'd have to put them where the basketball court, mini golf, and gold simulators are.

I feel like there is so much to do on the ships already that throwing all that other junk just makes it so cluttered. That' of course my opinion. When I want to be active we mught chose a physically intensive excursion or go to the gym. The rest of the time I want to know I can relax not trying to rush off and try everything on board. I think DCL has the perfect mix of activities to relaxing opportunities.

I think the question really is if they vary the amenities on the level that currently features the simulators and mini golf. I think this is a real possibility.

I think things that impair the ability to do shows, blow off fireworks or have Funnel Vision are all NOPE in the design phase.

Norwegian is great for these types of activities. We've cruised with them a couple times and Royal Caribbean. Wonderful cruises. We are finally coming back to DCL this year thanks to an IGT discount, but there's no way we can justify the price difference to cruise DCL annually with these other engineering wonders afloat. Obviously, a lot of people do so I agree, DCL probably won't mess much with a good thing. We've cruised with 7 different cruise lines, and loved each one for different reasons. Never a bad cruise yet!

Ropes course wouldn't affect the other stuff at all. Carnival Vista has ropes course, mini golf, suspended bike track, full basketball court, water slides, pool, splash area, adult only area (with hot tubs), giant screen TV and they still do amazing deck parties up there. It's easily doable on large ships.

I absolutely believe DCL is going to add the latest and greatest physical things to the new ships. All the other cruise lines continue to add more and more including ice skating, laser tag, trampoline park and bumper cars (RCCL), go karts and walking the plank (NCL), suspended bike track (CCL), magic carpet restaurant that travels up and down the side of the ship (Celebrity), zip lines, panoramic elevators on the side of the ship, and glass enclosure promenade deck with glass floor (MSC). DCL is going to have to blow cruisers away with technology and physical activities, my bet is they are going to be creating "theme parks at sea," and I can hardly wait!!!

Just curious, what ships has the trampoline park?

I can see maybe one or two things like that, but I feel like the others are so much more gimmicky than Disney. I was just looking at another for spring break next year since there isn't a Disney that actually lines up for us, and I was so disappointed. The lineup of activities looks more Mall of America or the main drag in a tourist trap area than Disney. In effect, you're talking the difference between going to the MK and going to Old Town in Kissimmee.

I also feel like Disney doesn't chase what others are doing, but tries to find new things that others will want to replicate themselves. If I were going to think about a thrill aspect, I'd think they might try to put some of the DisneyQuest virtual experiences on the ship, which would give them more chances to change by reprogramming with less devotion of space.

We've been cruising Disney the past few years until last year we decided to do Royal carribean, one of the small/mid size ships. We all had likes and dislikes about each one. But we all kind of liked the Royal Caribbean better (including my 14 yo)as far as things to do. We did the rock climbing walls, ice skating, and aeveral hours of the Flo-rider, even private lessons. But next april we are going on Disney Cruise line again. They both have pluses and minuses. But you can have fun on either one.

One thing you could do is research shore excursions and talk yo your parents about things that interest you. Those are always sometiing to look forward to!

I totally agree that Disney sets the standards and their innovation is unmatched, but they will for sure lose out on the teen market if they don't compete with the other cruise lines. My teens still absolutely love DL and WDW but now that we've sailed other cruise lines they are realizing that DCL doesn't have quite as much stuff to keep their interest.

As far as DisneyQuest goes, that was a huge failure for Disney. They were a part of Disney Regional Entertainment which I was an Operations Manager for the Club Disney division, ESPNZone was also included in this division. The plan for DQ, CD and ESPN was a complete rollout nationwide but DQ was the worst performer of the 3 and only 2 were ever built. The feedback was, it was more of a one and done concept and the cost of technology was too much to offer a high enough ROI.
