Is there even a chance?

Dream and Fantasy have Remy... (ok that's all I got)

On the Dream, I think I remember the Meridian bar (between Remy and Palo) having windows and outdoor seats.
I went there on the last cruise. I was the only one in the bar. It seems like everytime I go to an adult bar on the Fantasy and Dream I'm hearing crickets. The adult area on the classics are always a little more lively. I like being around other people.

I agree completely, plus there are a lot of other cruise lines that have the more active stuff, although there will probably be one or two active elements added since the ships will be a little bit larger, but the bulk will definitely be in adding things that everyone is capable of doing, no matter their abilities because that is what Disney does best.

Let's face it, not everyone is physically capable of using a wave pool, rock climbing wall, ropes, etc. But every can enjoy the midship detective agency (although I wish they would have brought that to the Magic and Wonder).

So I would look for more things like that to be added to the new ships.

With the newer projection mapping technologies that have been developed for the parks and maybe even further improvements, they might even find a way to bring the interactive portions of virtual portholes to real portholes and verandah doors, especially in the evening, but I think it might even be possible during the day as well.

They may also bring in virtual balconies like some other cruise lines are starting to do.

I expect that there will be three absolutely incredible ships that will be clear they are sister ships, but also each will have their own features that will make them unique, but I don't see Disney adding a ton of super active stuff that not everyone can enjoy. Yes, there will likely be some, but not a lot.
I'm just curious about the not able to part. Why do you think that will be a reason not a lot will be added? Not everyone can do aquaduck, basketball, goofy and mickeys pool, and sports simulators. Everything is directed in a sort of market, not everything is meant for everybody to do. Besides the clubs and aquaduck, I find my self often repeating things to do. I feel one area Disney is really weak in is the teen-young adult market. Adding thrilling water slides, ropes course, go carting, eurobunji, etc. If they add just one of those things along with 2-3 really good water slides that would definitely satisfy me. I'm not really trying to argue, I'm just curious on why you said everybody can't do everything.

You're kind of answering your own question. It is my assumption, since this will be our first Disney cruise (we are in our 50s), that they really cater to families with young children. Really young children won't be using the kinds of active things that a teen/young adult likes and their parents might not either.

Since, as you told us, from trying to convince your own parents to change cruise lines, most teen-young adults aren't paying the bills, they cater to the others.

I agree. I hope not. Why should Disney be a copycat of other cruise lines.

Because there are families leaving Disney because their children are aging out of characters/princesses, whose children like to be ACTIVE not sitting in a kid's club all day/night. We have moved to - and LOVE - RCI's Oasis class ships. There is more to do and their THREE pools are great. Disney's one little pool is horrible and for us that is a HUGE consideration. My daughter can swim all day long...she loves the rock climbing walls, musicals/shows, and other things that those RCI ships offer. She had 1 bad experience in a Disney kid's club and will never go back...and the clubs are so impersonal and crowded compared to other cruise lines. I really have no issue with what the new ships will or won't have. We're enjoying exploring other cruise lines so it would take something great to lure us back to DCL after our November cruise. I would much prefer going to the parks for my Disney fix.

Disney Quest was a failure, but it was one of my favorite days at WDW. I loved spending one day there for a change of pace from the parks. We had a great last visit there in May. I'll miss it.

We loved Disney Quest!

Thank you. We are first time Disney cruisers over age 50. We have over 25 cruises between Carnival and NCL. Have been saving for this for 2 years because we've always wanted to try a Disney Cruise. I think I will like it, but we spent 5 days at WDW and I would much rather get my Disney fix running around there like you said.

A common response is you pay for what you get.

Haha....yes that IS what they say... That or....soda is free! :dogdance: Which I guess is a good thing if the parents allow their kids to be pumped up with soda!

The get what you pay for many times comes from people who have never tried anything but DCL. If you can hang in there, maybe suggest to your parents that for your HS graduation you want to try another cruise line!

My point is that I wouldn't expect Disney to add a ton of stuff that not everyone can enjoy, it isn't what Disney does, as I said they may add one or two things that are more active, but overall I wouldn't expect that is where the bulk of their effort will be placed, it would be placed in areas that all can enjoy. I am not saying they don't have elements that only some can enjoy, but I am saying compared to other lines there are relatively few active activities like thrilling water slide, sports deck, etc.

That doesn't mean there aren't age specific activities on board, there are indeed so that there is something for everyone.

Really when I was a teenager to young adult I still would have preferred what Disney offers compared to other cruise lines. So I think they are good for some teens to young adults and not others, just as other cruise lines are.

Honestly, if you like Disney, you will have a blast. Disney has kids clubs as well as adult only areas. Yes there will be some kids in the family areas, but overall you will probably see fewer kids running around the Disney ships than on other lines because they tend to enjoy the kids clubs so much.

No worries...you will have a great time!

While I'm sure disney will come up with new and fancy things for their new ships that haven't been seen at sea before, I also doubt that they'll add 'major thrills'.
IMO that's just not the company, if you want big rides and roller coasters and you're in Florida, wdw wouldn't (or shouldn't) be your first choice.

This was my idea for a senior vasnction. I have multiple friends who cruise and we have been talking for years about a senior cruise. Will the probably happen? No. But I think I can convince my parents for my senior trip on Harmony of the Seas or Disneys ship coming out in 2021 if it has some of the stuff Oasis class ships does I wouldn't switch. But if they don't, I would.

Well Disney is always looking to one-up themselves, change old things into newer more exciting things. The parks are a great example of that, they're always adding new things, or changing old things. So I say there's a good chance we will see some new stuffs!

@KashasMom But why also would they want to compete with themselves? They have four huge theme parks just in Florida, why have a floating one too? The experiences are very different and some people are very happy to pay for both in the same year. Some people prefer one over the other. If they create a floating theme park like some of the other lines what would be the point of doing both experiences?

I agree that we will see new imagineered stuff. But Disney has made it pretty clear through the parks that they are NOT going for the "Thrill Ride Park" vibe - so along those lines I do not see them trying to be the "Thrill Ride Cruise Line". Innovations and imagineering? Sure. Thrill slides? I don't see it happening.

@mcgluvint Are you shopping for a 2021 cruise specifically or are you sailing before that?
I'm sailing many times before that. I was just saying that 2021 is the eyes I graduate High School. Technically I can't shop at cruise then but I think if it. Did I I Answer your question?

I don't think adding a rock climbing wall and a couple of slides would qualify as a floating theme park. They already have aquadunk and aquaduct. A Disney cruise could never compete with the parks. I personally would not want it to but there are things lacking on the Disney ships - some as small as additional pools or a dinner buffet!

I was actually curious to find out if you and your family were going to try other cruise lines in the future.

In my opinion adding more active options isn't the same as adding thrill rides. I don't classify a rock or rope climbing option as a thrill ride. Something like laser tag would also be active but not necessarily thrilling. It could also appeal to a wide range of ages and abilities.

I think adding a few of those things could help extend the "life" of a DCL family past the character phase. If parents are happy with the cruise line, then DCL would be well served to make the older kids happy so the parents remain brand loyal.
