Is there any trend to when guests might cancel DVC reservations?

Good afternoon all!

I have not tried waitlisting a lot, did last December and got my waitlist just a couple of weeks before travel. I had to change our summer trip dates about a month ago, from July to August and now I have a bit of a mess! We were very happy to snag 3 nights in a studio at VGF but I have not been able to add 2 or 3 nights prior to that. Right now I've got a standard view studio at the Polynesian, a lake view studio at BLT and then on to the VGF. I don't want to do 3 different resorts but at least we've got somewhere. There are some other resorts available and in the end I may have to switch over to a split stay with one of them but we are trying to stay somewhere we haven't been. I waitlisted for either a Poly or VGF to fill things out. I wouldn't mind moving once and getting to check out both resorts.

So not being an expert on this, do you have any suggestions for me? I've been watching resort availability but nothing I want has opened up. Is there any trend that guests might cancel around the 30 day mark? Or a trend that guests might tend to cancel on certain days, like weekends? I know it's probably wishful thinking - does it seem to be totally random or not so likely someone will cancel this close in?

Thanks for any help!

I've been watching cancellations in July at the Poly and Grand Floridian. I grabbed two days when I saw them open, but nothing else has ever opened up. I did see some rooms at BLT open up briefly. I doubt you'll find much at those places, other than randomly.

In general there are cancellations around the 7 month mark when people move from their home resorts, otherwise there isn't really a time when they routinely occur. Although the 30 day mark is important for the points, most members have travel plans than are too tough to cancel at that point, so I doubt there will be much open up at 30 days.

Thanks for the replies, I thought that might be the case, darn it! I'll keep watching, might end up at one of the other resorts for the first half. Good luck with your quest supersnoop!

I'm waitlisted for a night in July at the Polynesian but I don't hold out much hope I did see the same night available at VGF last week it was snatched up right away.

Good luck!! You just never know. People cancel at anytime for various reasons. This is the second time in a row there is a possibility I might have to cancel a reservation for a popular time at a popular resort. Don't know yet. Will give them another few weeks. (First time did not need to cancel after wondering and wondering - hoping the same for this one).

We have had pretty good luck also when we have wait listed.

Don't give up hope. I was waitlisted for one more night, in July, in a garden/pool view studio, at BWV. It came thru at the 31 day point. Never got an email about it. I discovered it went I went to complete online check in.

Whoo Hoo! I can hardly believe it but I got the nights I needed for the Polynesian studio! So excited!
Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone else!

Yay!! Congratulations to you!!party:

I got my wait list recently for 2 nights at BWV 2 bd Boardwalk view. Just yesterday I decided to go with a girlfriend for my birthday in February. I was able to get 4 nights in AKV value studio. Then I'm missing 2 nights and have the last night. I wait listed each night separately in the hopes they will come through. I'll give it some time and either cancel the last night and do a split stay or switch it all to a standard view. I'm staying optimistic for now and could use some pixie dust pixiedust:

Actually, according to MS, 30 days IS a good day for those on the waitlist. Mine came through at 31 days a few years ago, and when I talked to MS afterwards, the CM told me that it's a very common time, as people wait till the last minute, then they cancel to avoid the dreaded waitlist. Maybe they knew they'd have to cancel, but waited til the last minute, hoping things would allow them to go. I'd waitlisted for a 1 BR, planning to surprise DH when we got to the room he thought would be a studio. Well, at 32 days, figuring our WL hadn't come through, I spoiled the surprise and told him with a "Well at least I tried". Little did I know!
