Is there a way to remove security tags?

Four years ago, we were in our college town and bought DH a shirt at JCP with our college logo. We got all the way back home (8 hour drive) before we realized it still had the stinkin' ink tag attached. We took it to every JCP within a 100 mile radius, but they couldn't remove the tag because it was from an older store with an odd security tag system. They closed that old store shortly after our trip, so the poor shirt just hung in the closet and has since made 4 moves with us.

Just a few minutes ago, inspired by this thread and a few YouTube videos, I broke out a steak knife and some needle-nose pliers and successfully removed the ink tag without incident.

Luckily, even 4 yrs later, the shirt still fits!

I just called the store and talked to the manager. She apologized. I told her not to worry about it, since I didn't even notice them until yesterday. It happens. :)

I also told her the tags on the jeans were probably broken and she might want to throw them away. She laughed and said that happens, too and they don't know about it unless something like this happens.

So I'll be making another trek to the mall tonight to get them taken off.

I would take it back to the store.

Wish I could...........came home from WDW with an ink tag still on a cinch bag.
No stores around here use them anymore, so I am trying ways online to remove it.
In the freezer now

I bought an afghan a few years ago at WDW and got home with the ink tag still attached. I took my receipt and the afghan to my JC Penney's and they removed it.
Good luck getting it off!

I bought DS a couple pair of jeans on Friday and didn't realize they had the security tags still on them until he returned home last night (they were folded in so I couldn't see the tags). The check-out girl obviously didn't realize it, either.

Is there way to safely get them off or is my best bet just taking them back to the store and having them take it off? I do have my receipt showing I paid for them. ;)

The weird thing is we walked out of that store and in and out of probably 15 more and none of the security scanners at the entrance went off. :confused3

A few years ago I ordered my mother a DVC Member sweatshirt that came with the security tag still on it :furious: It was right before Christmas so I wanted to give it to her. Someone on these boards suggested I go on YouTube, which I did. It worked wonderfully but just be careful.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Back from the mall, with security tag-less jeans. :)

I had no problems and the young man apologized again and said he was going to give the clerk that missed them a hard time. ;)

:confused3 Yes, I don't get that statement. If you have the receipt, it is proof that you bought it. Cashiers do make mistakes. I would think the store would know that.

I've had to bring something back with the receipt & have the tag taken off. No one thought anything of it. They simply removed the tag without batting an eye and everyone went on with life.

I have had this happen at LEAST twice with my sons jeans at Gymboree. I buy all my sons jeans there, and they tag all the jeans there. They forget. It is frustrating - because I tend to buy a lot of clothes at once (a seasons worth) so I don't have to go back to the store.

I have never had them bat an eyelash if I have to take a pair of jeans back with a receipt to get a security tag removed. Just take the jeans back with the receipt, tags still in place and it won't be a big deal.

I would go back to the store too.

However, if you really want to remove it yourself, I've seen plenty of videos & directions online in years past. Just google it. You will find directions for the type of tag you have.

Yeah, sometimes they are. Unfortunately, so many folks have figured out ways to scam retailers they're not all terribly trusting. I just did that where I live to preclude attitude. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten any but the call ahead was easy enough and they were expecting me. no worries, no attitude.

I don't think it is a problem, well maybe some stores would give you a problem, but I was shopping with a friends just the other day and the sales girl was making sure that all the tags were removed, she said it happens fairly frequently that they forget to remove the tags and then customers have to bring the item back in for tag removal. Guess those security alarms aren't working very well. lol
