Is there a way to log in and post as a guest?

Something I want to post, but since I use this username all over the 'net, I don't want to post under it. Is there a way to do that?

Marsha

You can not post as a guest on the Dis.

Hmmm....I thought I had seen posts with guest as the username. Maybe I will register under a new anonymous name to post.

At one point you could post as a "Registered Guest" on the Welcome Board only. Sometimes those posts would get moved to another board so you might have seen them around. That is no longer the case and you must register with a username if you want to post.

Be careful about posting something personal, anonymous, or such with a 2nd username. You probably want to clear you computer cookies before you do that. During WPASADI my computer would get confused and even if I was logged in one user name and typing a post, sometime between hitting send and it posting I would be reverted to my regular username so the post would be in my name not the 2nd one. I have seen it happen to others also, like where family members share a computer and don't realize they are not logged in as themselves or thought they were and it posted under a different name.

Of course now i'm really curious what you're posting, and will be on the lookout for a newbie with a post ;) J/K

Just kidding - honestly there are people here who have 2nd names and it doesn't seem to be something worth an infraction :confused3

Just some silly drama. It isn't worth your curiosity---really.

but you can create a 2nd screen name, or 3rd, or 4th.....

I thought that you weren't allowed to have more than one user name? That's why I can never understand how people come on the boards and start out by saying that they have been here a long time, but didn't want to post under their real username. What happens when they do this?

Or you ARE allowed to have more than one?

:confused3

I thought there were lots of threads like "I'm a regular DIS poster but am posting anonymously to discuss a major personal problem" here?

The IP addresses are logged and I think the Mods & WMs have to actively look for user names with the same IP address, in order to catch them. I don't think there's a security program where a bell goes off when two IP addresses are the same. I think the Mods only look at this when they see someone stirring trouble. :stir:

People do have personalities with repeatable posting habits. If someone stirs the pot a lot, they will probably start up again under a new user name. It's kind of like putting lipstick on a pig.

Yes, and these posts are a magnet in attracting people who start flaming the OP for the slightest transgression so she doesn't really get good advice within the thread, or has to really weed it out.

"What??!?!?! You punished your child by not feeding him a good breakfast? BAD MOM!!!!! :furious: :furious: :furious: :badpc: :furious: :furious: :furious:

:sad2:
