Is there a song about...

For those of you Texans who don't cotton to country I can think of

Rio - Duran Duran (It's close anyway)
La Grange - ZZ Top
China Grove - Doobie Brothers

There are several for my state also including the most well known:

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
My Home's In Alabama - Alabama

More than one Jimmy Buffet song :teeth:

How about "Livingston Saturday Night"? I went to Livingston University way back when and this was our theme song.

Georgia On My Mind by the incomparable Ray Charles. To really get the right mood you have to be sitting on a blanket with a cooler of beer at the Stone Mountain Laser show while they play the song and do lasers on the side of the granite rock face. I've seen grown men cry when they do this song.

Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen

Philadelphia Freedom by Elton John

I don't know why I am thinking Bucks County is mentioned in some song... :scratchin

There's a version of "Dirty Water" with Buffalo in it too. Instead of the River Charles, they use the Niagara River. OK song, not the greatest.

Rock & Roll Girls by John Fogerty wants to "shuffle off to Buffalo and sit by the lake...". Again not the greatest song.

And the old standard "Buffalo Girls" - ;)

But perhaps the best Buffalo song is "Broadway" by the Goo Goo Dolls. If you live in Buffalo, you can really relate to the song. :sunny:

Thousands involving Texas and Dallas....

All country from what I know, so I pretty much hate 'em :cool1:
The stars at night, are big and bright... :rotfl:

Altogether now....

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner,
That I love London so.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I think of her wherever I go.
I get a funny feeling inside of me
Just walking up and down.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner
That I love London Town.

Ray Charles sung a little song titled "Georgia".:p

I think there's an old, old song about the city I live in too, but that might just be part of they lyrics and not the title of the song.

Yep, Georgia on My Mind is such a wonderful song. And you're right about the laser show--the song is even better there. Don't even get me started on how much I cry when they play "Proud to be an American."

When I lived in Memphis there were tons!

My fav being Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohen's original

I grew up in Chicago - fav being Sweet Home Chicago

I'll have to think of some for Portland, Charleston, Orlando and San Antonio

The TX one that pop'd into my head was "there's only one S in New Braunfels."

I hate that song, but that is a great moment, isn't it?

(I didn't think they allowed beer at Stone Mountain! :rolleyes1 )

I guess Tennessee's would be Rocky Top although I don't know why, doesn't say Tennessee in the song anywhere and NO I AM NOT A VOLS FAN.

One that goes with the city here is The Chattanooga Choo Choo, there is a hotel right next door to our business named the Chattanooga Choo Choo.....can't say that I have ever heard the song all the way through though, not sure if its about a train or the hotel or whta.....sad considering I have lived in this same area my entire life.

There are tons of songs about California (like every song by the Beach Boys) and I like most of them. I'm sure there are a few rap songs about Oakland, but I couldn't name them. There are several songs about San Francisco that I like.

I've lived in GA for the last 11 years, but was born and raised in Billy Joel's "Allentown." :)

Rhode Island's It for Me
by Charlie Hall

Sweet Rhode Island Red
by Tina Turner

And my personal favorite
Road To Rhode Island
by Family Guy

We're off on the road to Rhode Island
We're having the time of our lives.

Take it dog...

We're quite a pair of partners,
Just Like Thelma and Louise.
'cept you're not six feet tall

Yes, and your breasts don't reach your knees.
Give it time.

We're off on the road to Rhode Island,
We're certainly going in style.

You're with an intellectual, who craps inside his pants.
How dare you. At least I don't leave urine stains on all the household plants.
Oh, pee jokes.

We've traveled a bit and we've found,
Like a masochist in Newport we're Rhode Island bound.

Crazy travel conditions, huh?
First class or no class
Whoa, careful with that joke, it's an antique

We're off on the road to Rhode Island
We're not going to stop till we're there
Maybe for a beer.

Whatever dangers we may face, we'll never fear or cry
That's right, until we're syndicated Fox will never let us die, please!

We're off on the road to Rhode Island,
The home of that old campus swing.

We may pick up some college girls, and picnic on the grass.
We'd tell you more, but we'd have the censors on our ....
Yikes!

We certainly do get around.
Like a bunch of renegade pilgrims
Who are thrown out of Plymouth colony.
We're Rhode Island bound.
Or like a group of college freshmen
who were rejected by Harvard and forced to go to Brown!

We're Rhode Island Bound..

New York State of Mind by Billy Joel always used to choke me up when I was living in TX and was dying to move "back home." I still love that song, especially when he performs it live in NYC and changes some of the towns/newspapers around that he mentions and people cheer their heads off.

I also have a fondness for Frank Sinatra's New York, New York. When I was in elementary school we did a dance to that for our yearly "dance festival" and it brings back some good memories.

There are tons more but those are my two favorites.

ITA!

And I used to vacation in the Outer Banks of NC, so James Taylor's "Carolina on my Mind" makes me happy too!
