Is there a possibility of paying to upgrade a IGT, OGT, VGT at the port?

I'm just wondering if anyone tried to upgrade their IGT, OGT, VGT cabin at the port? If there are open cabins on your sailing does DCL allow this with the restricted fares?

What Cat Stateroom you paid before doesn't determine how much you pay for an upgrade at the port so yes, if upgrade are available then yes you can upgrade.

DCL will happily take some more money off you at the port! :rotfl2:

Wait a minute, I was told it DOES matter what Category you paid to determine the cost of the upgrade at port? Is there an official policy on this. I was told by another DCL poster that you have to tell them what category you booked (I booked Cat 08B GTY) and NOT what cabin you were assigned, say if I got upgraded on my GTY cabin.

I would like to know because we were thinking of upgrading depending on what cabin we end up with after being assigned.

ExTechie... See I am doing my due diligence and researching and NOT being lazy like I was on the Cruise tips!:lmao:

I meant that just because you booked a GTY Cat 11C for example over a 7A, they are not going to increase the price they want for the upgraded Stateroom because you booked a cheaper Stateroom originally.

DCL want a certain price for a unsold stateroom so if you paid $2600 for yours and want to upgrade to a Stateroom that they think they may sell for $3200 - you pay $600 more.
If someone else paid $2800 for their equal to your Cat Stateroom they wouldn't say the upgrade to the same upgraded Stateroom Cat is now $3400 adding on an extra $200 because they paid more initially.

Ok I am still confused! But it really doesn't matter since I won't know until I get there! Thanks1

The problem with upgrading from an IGT, OGT, or VGT is you didn't originally book a category. If you paid for the a VGT you didn't book a 7, 6, 5, or 4, so I don't know how they would determine the upgrade price. Same for an OGT, did you book a 9 or an 8, not as big a difference, but the original price for a 4 is much higher than a 7. So, I honestly don't know if they will allow upgrades for those already reduced stateroom bookings.

Clear as mud? What I mean is if you booked a 6 and there are 4's available for upgrade, they use their little chart to determine the price for going from a 6 to a 4. That isn't possible if you book a VGT rate. Where do they look? Maybe the lowest category, 7?:confused3

I would guess it's probably not allowed. But if it is, I would think they would simply have an upgrade price from the guarantee categories. My guess is that it would be more than the cheapest room in that category. Like if upgrade to cat X from 11C was $400, it would probably be the same or a little more for IGT. Again, just guessing -- I think given how many _GTs they sold for June and July on Fantasy, we're going to start getting a lot more information about them in the coming months. I have one in July, and I'll be sure to ask about port upgrades if the question hasn't otherwise been answered before then.

It is my understanding that you cannot purchase an upgrade from an IGT/OGT/VGT booking because they are already severely discounted and restricted.

The price you will pay for an upgrade is totally dependent on what you booked and there is not a lot of rhyme or reason to it. It is NOT based on what you paid, but what you booked. For instance, if I have a day 1 booking of an 11C for $2000 and someone else booked an 11C for $2500, we would both be charged the same amount at the terminal if we wanted to upgrade to the same nicer category. And, if I booked an 11C and got pixie dusted to a 9B, my upgrade price is still based on an 11C.

I have friends sailing on the restricted rates this week and next week and they were going to see if they could get the 'official' word from DCL if you are able to upgrade at the port when booked on the restricted fares.

The confusion on the regular upgrade at port issue is that DCL used to have you pay the difference between the cat you were cruising in and the cat you wanted to upgrade to. When we booked a cat 8 and were upgraded by DCL to a cat 4, we could have upgraded to a cat 3 for the difference from a 4 to a 3. Today if that happened we would have to pay the difference from an 8 to a 3. Should have done that when we had the chance. ;)

Very true--MANY years ago you purchased an upgrade from what you were ASSIGNED, but no you pay from what you PURCHASED. Essentially, you lose any pixie dust you may have received if you upgrade at the terminal.

IGT, OGT and VGT are very restricted. In exchange for a deep discount you are allowing DCL to choose your stateroom and you must accept the one they choose - no changes. I'm guessing you will probaby not be able to upgrade these at the port because you have already paid deeply discounted rates for them. It is not the same as a regular GTY stateroom.

IGT, OGT, and VGT rooms can only be booked as new reservations. I've understood that these can not be upgraded to as your initial res would need to be completely cancelled.

Good luck!

This thread is talking about the possibility port upgrades.

Did your friends get an answer to this? I'm very curious since we got our OGT cabin assignment today :cool1:

I know I initially misread this posting :(

I don't buy into the premise you can not upgrade b/c you were deeply discounted...we had one of the best deals ever offered...7 people inside stateroom (upgraded to cat 9) for $4000 for 10 night Med AND Disney gave us $700 in on board credit...for a category 9 we would have paid over 12k for that many people at their 'normal' pricing...but we were still able to pay for an upgrade to a verandah (but they could not promise our rooms would be connecting so we declined) it was only $600 to upgrade the two rooms..Disney will take money IF there is room and an opportunity regardless of your special.

Totally agree !
It's all about more revenue so if there is room available to be upgraded to then DCL will gladly take your $$ :)

Thats what I would think.....and hope for :)

I can't wait to hear the offical word from your friends! :thumbsup2 We're waiting for our VGT assignment for Fantasy June 2nd. I've been checking and checking to see if we are assigned which makes my mind start going and going thinking of all the possibilities :faint: While I know that these are restricted fares meaning you can't choose your stateroom, I'm just wondering if we're not thrilled with our assignment (really the only cat. I would not be thrilled with is a 7A) I'm thinking that at port if there are other verandah cabins available and if DCL won't switch us because of our restricted fare...I'm wondering if we can pay to upgrade to another verandah.

Yes, perhaps I am thinking about this way too much...but it helps me pass the time waiting for our cruise! ;)
