Is there a DVC member discount for ECV's?

Hi All. I was wondering if we got any discounts on ECV rentals at the parks? We just bought in August and I'm not sure about what discounts we get. I'm asking because my DH and I booked a Grandvilla in Jambo in late September as a surprise vacation for both sides of our family. Although we will have my husbands grandma traveling with us who will need one it now seems my stepfather might need one. He will be having a series of operations on his neck to correct his spine and I'm not sure if by the time September rolls around if he'll be able to walk fully through the parks. I know we could probably get away with a wheel chair if we needed too, but I'm thinking the ECV would be better for both my stepfather and grandmother. I know the price was/will be increasing this month so I was just wondering if maybe we get any sort of discount. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

I've not seen any discounts listed on the member website. You may be better off renting ECVs from an off-site vendor. They would be delivered to your resort and you could have them for as long as you need them.

I agree with the above post, rent them from an offsite company, that way they will have them to use around the resort, too.

For info on offsite rental, there is a list of companies in the sticky threads on our disABILITIES! board. If you have a question about a specific company, feel free to post it on that board. Also any questions about access in the parks. Sue, the moderator of that board is also a DVCer, so has lots of experience with power chairs and DVC resort transportation.

I just rented an ECV for my MIL while on our first stay at AKV. SO much better to have one to use at the resorts, than renting on a day-by-day basis at the parks. We were very pleased with it, the villa had plenty of room, and she really enjoyed the freedom of using the ECV vs. being dependent on family members while in the wheelchair. With the exception of ONE bus driver, they were all very helpful to her, as she had never used an ECV before. The restaurants were also very accomodating. I will definitely rent again in the future if the situation warrants one.

We laughed that she was the only one not tired out at the end of the day!! Overall it made for a positive experience.

Scootarama was my favorite when I had to rent an EVC last time.

The advantage of renting offsite - about 50% LESS than Disney rates.....the scooters are in better condition and you will have it 24/7.

I still cannot walk well following an accident in 2008. If I had to walk into the MK from a resort bus or TTC - I would never make it.

One tip - turn lemons into lemonaid. Decorate your scooter!

We leave on Saturday for DL and our hotel and scooter decorations are already at the Grand Californian. I made a pouch for the back of the seat for extra storage (jackets, etc), garland on the basket a little bike horn and bike bell and for under $25 I'm ready.

Take a few minutes when you first arrive to practice - backup, tight spaces, turning, working with the speed options is a biggie too.

One more recommendation.....rent a car and get a Pride Revo (breaks down into 5 pieces easy to handle). You will save sooooooo much time and frustration over Disney Transportation.

Have a good trip next fall and don't worry - it will be very easy.
