Is the world ready for an Asperger's sitcom?

Hmmm. I've never watched that show. I guess I'll have to make an effort now, just to see what I think. ;)

There is also a doctor on Grey's Anatomy now who is Aspie. The episode last night with her was interesting, she did a whole little monologue on squeeze machines. I (of course) already knew what was going on, but I imagine for many people it would be pretty educational.

my ds is an aspie, and yet, i don't see him in that character. (altho the squeeze thing, i didn't know it had a name, but i can often calm him if i literally give him a bear hug, tight . interesting!

OMG! Ok i Just started reading that article...and
a) i am newly hooked on that show. it is fabulous
b) I TOTALLY SEE Aspie in Sheldon!!! I have said it before, interesting to see it written down by someone else!

I love this show...I couldn't watch the first season because DS was just getting diagnosed with classic autism and it was just too painful. But now I love it. Sheldon's actor even has the body language down.

This show is wonderfully funny, it is set to record the season on our DVR, we always make sure to watch it!

Since this is an interesting thread, but not quite about WDW, I'm going to move it to the disABILITIES Community Board where it will fit in better.

DP and I love this show. I really only see "Aspie" in Sheldon. We have a whole group of friends that are like these guys (so I guess that includes us). They're a bunch of geeks. It's great.

The other night when they had a white board in the living room to determine which theatre they could go to. In the end they left Sheldon behind because the restaurant theatre combination didn't have the right set of variables and "since when is an ICEE the same as a Slushie?" It was sheer genius!!

I think it is a brilliant show and we just purchased the 1st season on DVD. :thumbsup2

We absolutely LOVE this show! I have 2 ds's on the spectrum and see so much of our lives in Sheldon and his friends. We loved the one with the white board and Sheldon trying to make a friend and how he got caught in an endless loop!

It seems like the writers have really got a good grasp of what AS can look like, and as a PP said, Sheldon really has the body language down as well.

We've got a tremendous amount of stress in our lives right now and we love that this show makes us laugh so hard and relieves some of that stress. :thumbsup2

Oh I have never seen this show before. I will have to check it out. Sounds like it is a great show. What day is it on?

I watch it when I can - but know it is not appropriate for the kiddos! I let my Aspie DS12 watch one episode and it was fine - the next had an adult theme to it, so I put the kabash to him watching and I DVR it to watch later.

I like it though and see my son in Sheldon alot and I laugh alot!

LOL! I read your title and my first thought was, we already have one, Big Bang Theory...then I clicked and saw the link to...Big Bang Theory! :rotfl2:

I absolutely love this show and was hooked after just the 1st episode. I have an Aspie child and I'm sure my DH is as well.

Just FYI, the title character in the Fox drama Bones is also supposed to be an Aspie. The characterization is a lot more subtle than Sheldon.

Thanks so much for posting this! Ds14 is a confirmed Aspie and dh is a HIGHLY suspected Aspie! (He's an engineer - wanted to be a physicist) I got season one for dh for Valentine's Day and we have been watching a couple of episodes every night. Some of them we laugh so loud that the kids are complaining! (we don't let them watch - too much "adult content".) The one when Leonard held up the SARCASM sign was a hoot as we are always trying to explain sarcasm to ds. There are so many other funny moments. (There wouldn't have been so much ***-kicking if the death ray had worked - ha! :lmao: )

Is the show still on the air? How many seasons?

Thanks again for sharing! :thumbsup2

Jill

The show is in its second season on CBS - Monday nights at 8:00 pm here.

You were so right about the sarcasm sign. My DS(5) is constantly trying to figure us out. We are by nature a very sarcastic family and he asks me, "Are you serious or are you funning me with sarcasm again?" :rotfl:

The show makes me cry sometimes it is so funny. :)
