Is the weather in September really that bad??

Our upcoming trip is September 1-10 and I just assumed the hottest weather of the summer would be over by then. But now I'm hearing it the nastiest month for heat/humidity/storms etc. Let me know! Thanks!

Wikipedia shows the average high for Orlando of Sep of 90 whereas July and August is 92. Due to the humidity those 2 degree average really doesn't make much of a difference. Average precip for July is listed as 7.3 with August at 7.1 and Sep listed as 6.1. Those are all average inches per month.

So those are the averages so just keep that in mind (you'll see highs that are higher than 90 and highs that are lower than 90; you'll also see heat index that can make it feel much hotter). When I've gone in Sep it's been hot, humid and t-storm chance a lot (not uncommon for there to be a chance of rain everyday though you'll find that a lot in FL not just in Sep). But I love going in September and you'll get to see the Halloween decorations since MNSSHP starts earlier this year (and is during your trip).

Storms usually are quickly passing..many times though due to the humidity it can heat up the area as far as heat index after the t-storm at least that time of the year. Just make sure to wear sunscreen, keep hydrated (I'd stay away from anything other than water during the day at least when you're out and about in the parks just my advice to reduce chance of dehydration), take breaks and seek solace if need be for a bit in an air conditioned place.

Depending on the day and time of the storm you may find at times the rain drives some guests out of the park. Though in my experience it's luck of the draw with that.

In past years it was really early october when I started to feel a difference from what I remembered of end of aug and early sept trips. Not saying it was really pleasant but it was noticeably better and heading in the right direction...

I've had a lot of good luck on early sept trips with crowds. Generally I end up picking the week a hurricane might hit and no big deal and everyone stays away except the handful of us that didn't..

The worst might be over but early Sept. is still quite hot and humid. On our last visit 1st week of Sept. we stayed for a 8 days. We had rain 2 evenings for about an hour each, 2 days were intense heat and the other days hot and sticky but not blazing.

We go in September most years. It's typically hot (upper 80's to lower 90's). Most years we only had rain a little everyday, however one year it rained a lot. I like September, just be prepared. Try to do the parks early am and late pm. Take afternoon pool breaks, bring ponchos.

We're going at the end of September, and I'm starting to get nervous about the weather too. We've always gone in February (which is perfect, IMO) and I absolutely hate heat and humidity. I'm just hoping that the lower crowds (compared to what we're used to -- Presidents Week) will outweigh the weather for me. Just trying not to let myself stress too much about it.

I'm fromTampa and September is definitely still very hot and muggy. But I feel like most months are hot so....
Definitely do early AM and later evenings in parks and get out of the heat in the middle of the day. Drink a lot of water and use lots of sunscreen. Afternoon thunderstorms are the norm but don't typically last too long. We go Labor Day weekend and still manage to enjoy ourselves. And don't worry about hurricanes- there is nothing you can do about that until right before your trip anyways.

We roasted. It was hot, but coming from August in the mid-west it didn't feel all that different from what we had been experiencing at home. Although, we're definitely looking forward to better weather for our upcoming trip after Thanksgiving! lol

it is hot, but the pool feels SO GOOD in Florida in September!
We love going in September. it is hot, but there are plenty of ways to cool off :)

We've been twice In September and think it's a great time. Yes it gets almost as hot as July and August in the middle of the day but to me the difference is in the early morning and late evening and nighttime. Not quite as brutally hot then and more pleasant than maybe a mid July evenings.

It's nasty...and it also is the heart of hurricane/tropical storm season...that being said, I go to Florida around that time each year b/c it's the cheapest time for my timeshare points...and I don't usually spend many expensive days in the parks anymore (so I don't waste money if I get rained out for 1/2 of each day)...pools are great during that time (especially since they tend to close many other places over Labor Day)...

Very hot and very humid. You sweat as soon as you walk out of your room!
It's my favorite time of year to go though.

We're also going around that time (Sept 3-10), and we usually go in November when the weather is nearly perfect. This past November was so hot, it felt like Aug/Sept. We are expecting very hot/humid, but we'll gladly take it for a little bit of lower crowds than we've been seeing in November. We are doing midday breaks each day, so going in September means lots of pool time for us. We plan to be in the parks in the mornings, rest/swim in the afternoons when it is the hottest and most crowded, and then head back out in the evenings. It will still probably be hot in the evenings, but much more bearable without the sun.

I went last year from 9/25-9/28 and it was brutal. It rained periodically, but the humidity never abated. At times, I thought the humidity felt worse after it rained. I can bear the heat, but I never experienced humidity like that before. I had only been to Florida in December and February before that trip. It wasn't my favorite, but in order to experience MNSSHP and F&W, we are going around the same time this year. Don't let it deter you unless you are miserable in the heat. Just be prepared that it will likely be very hot and humid.

Agreed - we were there same time last year, and it was so hot and humid on Saturday, Sept. 26th in EPCOT, and so crowded since it was the first weekend of Food & Wine Festival - my mom thought she was going to faint. We just went back last weekend, and while warm, it was lower humidity and at times a great breeze and even a little cool when in the shade or swimming. That said, we are going back this September, so we will take it easy and time more A/C and pool time during the day!

Just be prepared for anything. Two years ago we had multiple days where it reached 100 degrees here in Orlando in September. It was INSANE. We don't really consider summer over until October.
