Is the weather in September really that bad??

We were there last Sept and won't do it again. It rained all day everyday and if it stopped even for just a bit it was so hot, muggy and humid. We spent our whole trip in ponchos except the last day...yup the sun came out that day. It was a soggy trip!

This makes me nervous. :crazy2: We've been once in September before and I remember it being so hot I wanted to lay down and melt.. but with my work we are required to schedule all our vacations as a team in early December and it just so happened to be the day I went into labor and so I just got stuck with whatever weeks weren't already taken so I didn't really get much choice in when we go.
We can handle the heat but I'll be nervous for the baby. He'll be 9 months and coming from MI the extreme heat will be something he won't be accustomed to and I feel like I'm going to be so worried about him it won't even be any fun. :scared: We're just going to plan on early mornings/evening time in the parks and swimming/resting at the hotel during the afternoon.
I'll take the heat over the weather we had our last trip in November though! It was so cold we didn't even bother going to the pools except the very end of our trip when it finally warmed up. We had days in the 50s and freeze warnings overnight. I know that's not the norm but I would hate to have a repeat of that trip.

It's blazing hot until about mid October, after that it's just hot. It was in the 80's here this past Christmas. It doesn't really start to cool off until Dec-Feb. The humidity will start to die down in Octover, but still expect warm weather

I've been in every month of the year except for April, including June and July and August. The trip I went in September was the absolute hottest, most humid, and most miserable of them all as far as weather goes. Lol. (I'm a HUGE fan of January, if anybody asks.) But, all that said, we are going again this September because the timing was right and the crowds are low. I can handle the brutal heat and humidity OR crowds....but not both at the same time ever again. For what it's worth, I'm from Oklahoma and early September is miserably hot and muggy here, too, with temps still in the high 90s. BUT, the difference is that we really only brave it going to and from the car, not walking around all day in a theme park.

It is our favorite time to go. I love the heat and the shorter lines! Expect an afternoon shower but usually doesn't last long and clears out many people from the park! Have fun!!!

Just be prepared for anything. Two years ago we had multiple days where it reached 100 degrees here in Orlando in September. It was INSANE. We don't really consider summer over until October.

Maybe more like mid to late October!!With that said I've seen 96-97 in October, those highs don't get that high if it rains or is cloudy though, that's why I know May and October sometimes tend to get those extreme highs since they're right before and right after wet season, the environment is suited to get really hot but no clouds or rain so it can get really hot.Not normal but it tends to happen those months,July and August are the real constant hot months where you can expect at least close to mid 90's.

No not over at all. Those dates will feel the same as August. :scared:

Yes, it will be extremely hot, humid, rainy.

Yeah...all of what they said.

Let's put it this way, if you're from a part of the country (or world) where the beginning of September ushers in the end of "summer," well...you will find September in Florida to be VERY hot and the humidity beyond what you can imagine.

BUT, that won't ruin your trip. Lower crowds will be awesome! And you'll still have an amazing time. ;)

Sorry to hear that happened.

We went to Austin,TX last May..TX had a drought and by the end of our week trip their drought in the entire state was mostly over. It rained every darn day except for the first full day we were there;that day was hot but the rest of the days was chilly and rainy. I should note that family members down by Austin were just like we were in that they were not expecting it to rain THAT much and considering they were in a drought it should tell you that overall they were lacking in the rain department for a while...we just had to go that time when it would basicaly end their drought lol.

Unfortunately that May was just a rainy May. Back home in KC we had 4 days out of the entire month of May without rain. It was downright terrible. We're used to t-storms starting in April but we are not used to 27 out of 31 days in a month to be full of rain.

Still though we would go back to Austin,TX again in May. We chalked it up to it just being a bad year and El Nino playing a role for both KC and Austin rain issues.

Like I said in my earlier comment Sep does have chance of rain a lot but I've been luckly thus far and I haven't been rained out the entire trip before just had storms and rain at some point during the trip.

Was this the only time you had visited in September? If it was I'd give it another shot. El Nino was strong in 2015 and the Southern part of the U.S. (Texas, FL, etc) was considered much wetter than average.

We're going 1st week of Oct. Am hoping it won't be quite as bad as when we went 1st week of Sept.

This. I think what people forget is that most people that live in hot and humid climates aren't spending 10 to 12 hours a day in it when they're at home.

OP, early September is basically an extension of summer weather, and you're likely to have temps in the 90s with very high humidity. As long as you have a good plan (get to the parks very early, take a mid-day break, drink lots of water, wear moisture-wicking clothes, use mister fans and Frogg Toggs chilly pads, do air-conditioned activities in the heat of the day, etc.) you should be fine.

But one thing to remember is that in September, WDW tends to shorten the hours the parks are open (they close earlier in September than they do in August). So if you do an afternoon break at the pool or resort, pay attention to what time the parks close so you don't end up having a short evening. Too long of an afternoon break can really eat into your park time if the parks close by 7:00 or so.

july and august are definitely the most hot, most humid, and most rainy but the beginning of september is right up there.
i'm going on a short trip from Sept 1-5 and i'm expecting sweat to roll down my back just like the last time i went around that time and the times i've gone in june, july, and august.
its really not THAT bad though since you're in air conditioning much of the time.

I've been in May (best time IMO weatherwise), June, August, and the last three times in September and September is my favorite time to go since the crowds don't seem as bad (plus it's usually free dining time!) We usually go around the end of September since the hurricane chances lessen a little bit. It is VERY hot and humid so if the heat bothers you, this month is not for you. I find there are a lot of places to duck into to get cool in most of the parks though. It does rain a little almost every day, but it's over quickly too!

I have been in September 3xs & it can be really hot & rain quite a bit. My advice is to stay in the parks during the rain. Go to an indoor show, walk around a gift shop, grab a coffee. When the rain stops a lot of people will have left the parks & it will be less crowded.

Also try to nap or swim after lunch to stay out of the worst heat of the day.

Our upcoming trip is September 1-10 and I just assumed the hottest weather of the summer would be over by then. But now I'm hearing it the nastiest month for heat/humidity/storms etc. Let me know! Thanks!

It's very hot and humid but the rain is not a given. We went last year for 5 days in early Sept and barely saw any rain. I don't mind the weather because the crowds are so much better that time of the year!

If you chose September to avoid the worst heat, you will likely be disappointed. You need to reschedule or adjust your expectations.

Been in Sept twice (I think).. I do know we went one time with another family and the heat didn't bother me as much as it did my buddy. I specifically remember him talking about the heat and how humid it was but to me.. it wasn't that big a deal. I suppose if your not very tolerant of heat and humidity, you will not like September... but for, I am still thawing out after living too many years in Northern Ohio! :(

I hate the heat but we still go every September for the past few years. We get to a park at rope drop, leave in the afternoon for pool time, and return late afternoon or early evening. It really is a great time to be there, crowd-wise it's not too bad. Animal Kingdom is an OVEN though.

Your baby will be ok :). Just be sure to nurse extra or give extra formula. All of my Florida babies have been to Disney and honestly, we don't even go outside much during the day in the summer. So it's not like they were used to being in the heat either. If you're nursing, drink lots of extra water--more than you usually would, even for the heat. And skip the cutesie outfits for the kiddo during the day. Just a onesie or shirt and shorts. Save the Prince Charming outfits (if that's your thing :) ) for nighttime or dinner. You'll be fine. And you'll have a blast if you take it easy.

As Florida babies, we are wimps. We rarely used the pool in October growing up because it would be too "cold" for us. My birthday in September would always be a pool party, but my sister's in October almost never was. :rotfl2:
