Is slinky dog less intense than the dwarf mine ride?

I get motion sickness on many rides at WDW. My triggers are "jerky," bumpy rides; side to side motion; going in circles (like the alien saucers or teacups); or flight simulator type rides.

I can't speak to intensity per se, but of the roller coasters at WDW, I get sickest on BTMRR, even though it's not the "scariest" one...something about the bumpy/jerky track sets me off, and I can't ride it anymore, even on Bonine/Dramamine.

For me, 7DMT gets me sicker than SDD, so I usually choose not to ride. SDD only gets me a little nauseous (as others have noted, it's a very smooth ride), so for me it's worth it to ride and then feel lousy for about 5-10 minutes after. When I ride 7DMT I get sicker and stay sicker longer...something about the rocking side to side motion does it, especially if I sit in a car with someone who weighs a lot less or more than I do (the car rocks more).

HTH! :)

I think it compares the most to BTMR, but it's so much smoother. Also, I know someone who doesn't get sick on Disney coasters, and SDD made her really green (and not with envy); the biggest factor is there is a series of quick up and down hills all in a row... Any type of motion sickness is so individual it's hard to compare reactions. But, for "intense-ness" I just say SDD is a true mini-coaster, not a kiddie-coaster.

I would say it is comparable to a longer version of the Barnstormer, but smoother. I would put it as more intense than 7DMT and less intense and definitely smoother than BTMRR. To me, 7DMT is less intense because there are slow parts of that ride. I think of 7DMT as more of a combo dark ride/coaster than a full coaster. The smoothness factor is probably closer to 7DMT than to BTMRR or Barnstormer.

I consider SDD to be less intense. You don't have the quick drops and turns that BTMRR has. It is very smooth. Even the launches are smooth and slowly build up unike RnRC.
I enjoyed SDD far more than I expected. If you are concerned about the drop, sit in the front and you miss most of the effect of the drop. Sitting in the back, you get a good whip from the drop (which I enjoy).
I would consider SDD less intense than 7DMT as well when you consider the second half with the drop in 7DMT.

When you load into the seat, load 2nd. I found the left side to be a bit more intense than the right side but I absolutely love that ride!

7DMT is "on the ground" so you don't always get a sense of the height and elevation you're at. You're travelling along the side, inside, up or down the mountain.

From the videos I've seen, you can always tell your height while on SDD. I wonder if this affects how intense the ride feels?

I am not a big fan of roller coasters. I have gone on the dwarf and "survived". I didn't go on Slinky last year and my husband said it's not bad and that if I can handle the dwarf ride, I can handle Slinky. Just wondering to those that are not big roller coaster fans what their opinion is. And is better to sit in the front as opposed to the back because of motion sickness.
Slinky is like a longer, higher, faster Barnstormer. It's open like Barnstormer. How do you do on Barnstormer? Could you handle something a little more intense? I don't think it compares with Mine Train because Mine Train doesn't have the same openness.

SDD is more intense for sure. To me anyway. The launch is very fast - not close to RNR fast, but there's nothing like it on Mine Train, Big Thunder, or Space Mountain. I believe the drops are bigger too, although not by much.

::yes:: I agree! Good comparison.

We were underwhelmed by Slinky Dog. :duck: When we came off, DD15 said, "I'm SO GLAD we had FPs for that because I would never stand in a long line to ride that ride." We all agreed with that statement. We enjoyed it for what it was. The theming was cute. And we would ride it again...but only if we didn't have to use a FP for it and the line was no longer than 10mins...so that means we probably won't be on it again any time soon. To be fair, we consider 7DMT a kiddie coaster type ride as well, but like the theming better (cute mining scenes). And BOTH 7DMT and Slinky Dog need to be about twice as long. :D

I can ride 7DMT once a trip. It doesn't bother me too much, but I think if I rode it more than once (in an entire week), my stomach wouldn't approve. I was totally fine on SDD, and actually enjoying it, until the bumpy part at the end. On roller coasters and drop rides, I scream, and that seems to calm my stomach some how. The bumpy part on SDD prevented me from screaming, so I think that might have something to do with it, but boy oh boy, I did not feel well when we got off that ride. :(

Their intensity is the same, SDD is just longer and does not have a slow dark ride portion.

Why all the asterisks for slinky dog dash throughout this thread? I get that the most obvious abbreviation for alien swirling saucers would get asterisked out, which is why I see AS2 so often, because that forms a "bad word". But SDD doesn't mean anything bad to me. Or have I misread this entire thread, and everyone was talking about AS2 and not SDD? It really doesn't matter, I just HAD to know because it was driving me crazy as I read all of the replies :P

I just reread the title, and it mentions slinky. So please help my curiosity, why are all the replies being censored??? AM I missing something obvious?

OK, I see my reply has the asterisks also in stead of the first letters of slinky dog dash. I guess I need to google why that's bad??

After the initial ‘shock’ of how intense I found slinky dog to be..

I happily rode it 10 times back to back
And lived to tell the tale.:chat:

I was going to ask the same thing!
