This is our first family trip to WDW. I have stressed over these AR's  but now we are 12 days away and I having second thoughts about Sci-Fi. We have lunch scheduled at 12:00 on our MGM day (and what I've read on these boards there isn't much to choose from at MGM). I chose that restaurant because of the dining in the cars and have read some post that the onion rings, burgers and shakes are really good. But I'm wondering if it's worth taking an hour or so to eat at, worth TS credits or if we do go should we pay OOP for it? :confused3 I really could use some advice on this from the experts here :teeth:

We loved Sci Fi, it was one of our favorites this past trip, atmosphere was GREAT, food was awesome, Shakes were Fabulous, we are definately going back next visit

I think the atmosphere is really fun. I have read that a lot of people do not like the food. I don't think that it is the best food at Disney, but it is not that bad. My kids really thought that it was neat to sit in the cars to eat. We would definatly go back :goodvibes

GO FOR IT!! I think you will really enjoy it!! We have gone here en=very trip and we love it!! The atmosphere cant be beat (especially if you have j=kids) and I neber have had what I would consider a BAD meal!! Sometimes I feel like some posters on these boards are too picky and judgenental expecting every disney meal to be 5 star gourmet-- If it sounds appealing to you, give it a try and enjoy!!! :goodvibes editing to add that we have a sci fi lunch planned too and we are planning to use 2 TS credits for myself and DH and will buy 1 (or 2) kids meals for 5$$ oop with the large appetizers and dessert that should be way enough!! :wave2:

Hello...if you decide to keep your adr let us know what you thought.
We are eating at SCI-FI for the first time in Nov. :Pinkbounc

We think it's great fun. But, a sensitive child might be scared by the sci-fi movie clips that play. Adults think they're funny, but I know children who've been scared by them.

Putting that aside, the atmosphere is really fun - sitting in the cars, remembering the old days of drive-in movies, etc. We try to go every trip. We stick with burgers, onion rings and we get the spirited shakes -- usually chocolate with a shot of rum. The oreo one is good, too.

I have no idea whether it's worth a TS meal or not. I think you're paying more for atmosphere than food -- though you'll be fine if you stick with basic things. We also recently had the shrimp pasta and that was pretty good -- nice big shrimp and just a light olive oil sauce.

I guess as I think about it, if it were me, I'd probably use my TS meal at MGM for Brown Derby. It has really good food -- one of the best theme park restaurants on property, IMO.

But, if you want to entertain the kids and have an experience that is really different, unique and fun, then stick with the Sci-Fi Dine In.

If you're a fun loving bunch, you'll enjoy it - certainly unique. We thought the food was fine (my DH had the open face steak & said it was good).

You really don't go to WDW for the food, IMO few truly outstanding venues. But, considering you're in a theme park/resort hotel, many are adequate to very good.

My husband is a hard one to please. He'll take Sci-Fi for lunch any day. Keep your reservation. Maybe the food isn't above a good chain restaurant but the atmosphere is not to be missed. Don't pass up the chicken sandwich or the cold ham and cheese sandwich either. The servers here are great and the clips are so funny.

Heck, my in-laws were impressed.

I love Sci-Fi for lunch. Every time we go to Disney everyone in the family picks out the one place they want to eat at more than anywhere else and then we try new places other than the ones that were picked. Mine is always Sci-Fi. It has such a great atmosphere and Disney feel to it. The food (at lunch) is great. I've had their Reuben sandwich several times. We go to Sci-Fi for lunch every time we've gone to Disney and it's still my pick next time. :flower:

We enjoyed Sci-Fi for lunch. DH had the burger and I forget what I had but I liked it. I love their onion rings. Next time we go, I'm getting the burger, onion rings and a milkshake. We loved the atmosphere but the movies and the darkness did frighten my kids (ages 2 and 3) so we'll wait to go back until they're a little older.

If you are concerned about getting a good deal out of the dining plan, you can check out www.allearsnet.com to see the menu and do the math.

One thing I really liked about our recent trip to Sci-Fi was how relaxing it was-a nice break from the usual hustle & bustle of WDW! As far as paying OOP? We were on the free dining when we went, but I was shocked at the tab-$80 for 2 adults & one child! Of, course, we did have the appetizers, entree, dessert, tax & tip included in that price but nevertheless, pretty steep for so-so food! Yet I was happy we did go!

we love Sci-Fi. we have made this place a must-do place to eat each and every trip. the food is good and the atmosphere is great. our service has each and evry time been good in fact the last time it was excellent. my DS#2 is a finicky eater. he ordered a chicken sandwich but he asked for no sauce on it. well needless to say it came back with sauce on it. he wasnt happy and i just told him to order another sandwich but be more specific because i think he forgot to tell the waiter about the no sauce. well the waiter asked me why i was ordering another sandwich and i told him what happened and he promptly returned with a chicken sandwich without the sauce and we werent charged fo it. well i was so suprised and happy with him not only did he get an excellent tip but i asked to see the manager and told her of the great service we recieved.

my DS#2 always asks me if i am going to sit there and tell me the name of each movie that is playing.

go to sci-fi, i feel you will enjoy it very much

It's unanimous-everyone, including me, thinks you should go to Sci-Fi. Please tell us what you thought after you go there.

i'd never go back but glad we did it once( and only once never ever ever again) and if it's free dining you won't feel that stinking "we got ripped "feeling like we did! the atmosphere is cute so you probalby want to go once.

the shot of rum in the shake mentioned above would have helped ;)

Do it, but pay OOP. Not worth credits. Sci-fi is a unique experience and not to be missed - but the food is the least of it. ;)

We just got back - I originally had us scheduled for a dinner at Sci-Fi and decided at the last minute we wanted to goto Ohana's and decided to change 2 of our TS to lunches and share them to free up the other TS that we needed for Ohana's.

I love the atmosphere at Sci-Fi really neat - the food was just OK. I was glad that I had changed to a lunch & that hubby & I shared a meal. They messed up and charged it to our room though - instead of using one table service. Watch your receipts - if it does not give you a total left of your TS or CS (which ever you are using) they have done a room charge instead. Your resort can take care of any screw ups that are done - but you have to know that a mistake was made - so keep track of what you use.

Give it a try - if nothing else share a meal like we did. The experience is great. I'm glad we tried it.

I hope you have a great time on your vacation. Now that my feet & legs have rested over the past 4 days - I wish we were going back.

:crazy2: This was by far our worst meal! We were there with the free dining plan and I can literally say I wouldn't go back even for free. I know I'll get flamed for this, but I didn't really think the atmosphere all that great. We will not be going back. But I'm still glad we tried it. It's neat, just not what we were looking for. I have heard many good reviews though, just not for us.

We went last week for lunch too. I was expecting the food to be bad based on reviews, and it was. The cookies & cream shake was incredible though. It was a fun meal and I'm glad that we went, but we won't go again for a meal. We might go for shakes sometime, but not an entire meal. Our bill for 2 adults and 4 kids was about $125 I think. We were on free dining, so it was definately worth what we paid (or didn't pay I should say)!

I would go. Just go in expecting fun and okay food and not much more. It was unique and my kids enjoyed it. None of the 9 kids in our group (inculding a 2 yo that was TERRIFIED of everything) were upset by it. Go and have fun!

You'd have to be pretty snooty to say there wasn't much to choose from at MGM. I've eaten at four of the five sitdown restaurants and enjoyed the food at all of them, and the atmosphere at all but Hollywood & Vine. And I'm pretty sure the other (Brown Derby) is OK too! Sci-Fi is kind of pricey so I'd say go ahead and use your credits.
