Is Poutine good?

The best poutine I have ever had is in Ottawa with lamb meat and lamb gravy at a Greek Tapas restaurant.
I haven't tried any in Vancouver, but it seems that Davie street is where you can find some authentic poutine. Click HERE.

Have fun planning! :flower:

I love poutine but it's the only thing that gives me heartburn. It's just so heavy when it's done right. I wouldn't bother with fast food poutine because I feel it really needs thick, greasy fries to work. I guess being from Montreal makes me a bit of a poutine snob.

However you should note that "proper" poutine is made with cheese curds, not cheese. Many places serve it simply with grated cheese which is not correctly poutine.

I love me some 'proper' poutine.... If it's not cheese curds, it's just cheesy fries with gravy....not the same thing.

When you say butter chicken, do you mean makhani? If so, it can usually be made mild or spicy to your taste. I don't usually think of it as a particularly spicy Indian food.

YES!!!! Try it, most people love it. Fries, gravy and cheese what's not to love.

Other than fries, that sounds disgusting to me personally. ;-)

And just googled for more information about it and even more grossed out. To each his or her own, I guess!

Poutine... Drove up the AlCan and tried several while driving through Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon Territory. Canadian comfort food I would imagine. Some was not so great, others very good, depends like most foods on the chef preparing it. Give it a try, one of my biggest sources of fun is trying new foods, and trying things that are special to a country I'm visiting are the best. (even if I'm not a fan)

I don't eat fast food poutine. DD still likes to eat it once in a long while. But I just love this poutine with lamb at a restaurant. Fries were still crispy, not soaked in gravy and the gravy was not too much and not salty but flavourful. It is worth a try!

Poutine is soooooooooooooo good. As a Canadian now in the states, it's something I really miss. But I did get lucky because there's a place here that serves it, and it's made with cheese curds because the chef/owner is from Ontario!

The dish of my people! Lol born and raised in Montreal, cant even count the number of poutines I've had over the years! Make sure it's made with cheese curd, or it is not at all a real poutine :) hopefully you enjoy it and then one day get over to Quebec to compare the two.

Oh, one thing I've noticed lately is people adding ketchup. That is just wrong - it comes with gravy, why would you need ketchup?? enjoy!!

EDIT: I don't know what is gross about it. It's fries gravy and cheese curds. Are you grossed out by fries with gravy? It's the same thing with cheese curds. The mix is delicious.

Is that feta in it?

Although it is inspired from it and really fancy, that is not a poutine to me. Just like Tartiflette is not poutine. And a donut is not a cronut.

Yes, I am grossed out by that. I don't like gravy and the thought of cheese curds is nasty to me. But I know some people like those ingredients, which is why I made sure to say it sounds disgusting to me personally rather than just gross in general.

I think there were feta cheese and mozzarella chunks.

I know it is not original but I am not very fond of the original poutine. Loads of sodium and kind of soggy. I am pleased with this new and improved one, and it tasted so GOOood!

You can find Poutine in the US at Chez Vachon, located in Manchester, NH. It is authentic as the Québécois spoken in the restaurant. Perhaps try the Poutine Challenge and attempt to gobble a cookie sheet filled with (5lbs?) of Poutine. Many have tried, few have succeeded.

:faint:

I've been raised with (on? sorry, french canadian!) comfort food (therefore, I looooove gravies and sauces) and I stayed in a region where our cheeses (and cheese curds) are a national pride...

I guess it's like me with seafood (makes me physically ill).

The best poutine I ever had was in a tiny restaurant in Victoria (where I live) called Kitty's. Yam fry poutine - TO DIE FOR!!
