Is Poly just a love/hate thing?

Howdy all!
I have suppressed my Disney urges for the last 4 years of nursing school. Now that I am graduating in March we can finally get back to having a life--vacations....fun...Disney...monorail.... I want it all :cheer2:

So I have the option for a five night stay in August at Poly for $212/night :cool1:. The other options are YC or BC for around $200/night.

We are leaning towards Poly but I am not 100% sold. It seems like for every few reviews I get talking about how great it is I find one that is really bad. Much more hit or miss than YC/BC reviews. The only thing I am sticky about is cleaning. I don't like mystery stains or strange hairs. Is it just people that maybe got the old rooms that have issues?

Honestly, for the rack prices they charge, the place should be pretty darn clean. I am so torn! My gut tells me Poly. I think I just need some confirmation.

Thanks!

They are doing construction at the Poly right now but if that doesn't bother you I would say it's up to you. I had my heart set on the Poly for our October 2014 trip, however when we toured it in December I was put off by how busy it all was when I thought I would love it. We toured the AKL & I was blown away but that's my preference, I like quiet and remote plus we drive so we have our car and the monorail isnt a huge deal to us. I have not officially stayed at Poly just visted so it could have been a busy time and staying there could be a whole different experience and quiet, etc.

Poly is undergoing construction/pool closure this year. For that reason alone, I am avoiding booking the Poly until 2015 at least! ALso, the Epcot area is really nice for young adults. I would be inclined to stay in the Epcot area for a graduation trip. Lots of dining options, great night life activities in the BW area regardless of which hotel you stay in there, BW entertainment is a short walk. Walking to Epcot and DHS is awesome.

Are you aware that DVC construction is going on at the Poly?

OK, obviously I was a little slow to post. ;)

YC/BC is super fun. Being able to walk to Epcot is awesome and it's such a pretty walk, and so pretty over there in general. So many restaurants because you have World Showcase right there.

I was aware of the construction. It really isn't a problem for me. Even the potential pool closure is fine. Man, even the distance between places isn't a biggie. We won't be taking little ones this time so comparatively speaking anywhere we go is going to be both faster and easier since it will just be us. :moped:

Hmm, all good points to think about. I think we are going to be spending fairly equal amounts of time at parks. Walking from Epcot would be such a huge plus. But then again watching fireworks from the beach would be nice... I seriously have been going in circles for days!

Thanks for the input. A little insider knowledge from the pro's does help.

I don't hate Poly, but we always stay away from it because of the bed situation. As husband/wife, we don't like having the two beds and want a king! They only have king beds in the two bedroom and presidential suites. With that said, we LOVED BC! The pool area is AMAZING and we loved walking to Epcot.

Hey I didn't know that! I definitely don't foresee a presidential suite in our budget. I do kind of like the Hubs--he's a keeper!

Since you are aware of the construction and wouldn't be bothered by it, I'd go with the Poly. We have stayed at both the Poly and BC and while we enjoyed our BC stay, we love everything about the Poly. The ability to walk to Epcot is a nice perk of the BC, but the Poly is just as convenient (IMO) as it's a quick 5-7 walk to the TTC to catch the Epcot monorail. The Poly rooms are quite a bit larger than the BC rooms and they have also just been through a refurb, so everything is new. Also, watching the fireworks from the beach is amazing and you really can't beat relaxing in a hammock enjoying that great view. The BC is a nice resort, but if I were given the choice between the two, my choice would be the Poly without hesitation. Good luck with your decision.

I don't condemn the poly, we've done a lot of s tree at there years ago....it's rates just out of hand for what you get...discounts got small and there is the WL in the same vicinity at a lot cheaper price.....

What go us was the non staying crowds.....yes in the pool, on the beach, at the bars....just total overpeopled and chaos.....just constant people at monorail etc...just seems with the TTC so close, guest wandering around, in and out made a peaceful resort......congested....and for big money......We just moved on but really enjoy the MK resort's....

Love the Poly but the price is out of control not worth the money you have to pay. I have stayed there in the past and loved it but refuse to pay that much money when there are so many resorts to stay at

Do people really do that???? Like wander around to resorts they aren't staying at?:confused3

We have always done rental homes prior to this but it has never been on my radar to just wander aimlessly around resorts. There's rides to ride and churros to eat!

Same here! It's annoying that there are no "regular" rooms with king beds! I'm sort of looking forward to the villas opening tho, as renting a 1 bedroom villa will allow us to both stay there AND have the king bed!

Yes, tons of people do that. We love to visit other resorts for a meal or a drink. Or we will go on a monorail crawl and have a drink/snack at each of those resorts. Not everyone wants to just ride rides the entire time. I think the last time DH and I went on an adults trip, we rode less than 10 rides in 7 days!

To answer the original question, I would go with BC or YC. We just love that entire Epcot resort area!

Thats exactly my thoughts. I would never in a million years pay over $250 for any studio room. For us there just is no reason to. Disney quoted the price at around $479/night for this same stay! (does anyone pay that???)
However, I will bite when it comes to in getting a "deluxe" for $200-$210/night.

We did a split stay in Sept. BC for first 4 nights then moved to Poly for last 2 nights. I just had to do Poly once in my life. While the Poly was nice, we absolutely loved the BC. If you stay at BC you can always visit the Poly, watch the fireworks from the beach and get a Dole Whip, yum!

Poly does have standard king rooms. My H and I were in one in November in Samoa. The CM insisted there was no such thing when I called to book my reservation but I knew from Tikiman that wasn't true so I asked her to put it in my requests even though she didn't want to. We got all my requests, Samoa, king bed, third floor with balcony. I LOVED our stay at Poly! Wouldn't have changed a thing!:)

Are you serious!? Every time we looked to book online or over the phone we were told we'd have to book a suite to get a king bed! Nevertheless, I know how Disney can sometimes be with requests, so I don't think I'd actually ever risk it, but good to know that they DO have at least one standard room with a king! Sounds like you really lucked out!!

According to Tikiman's site, king rooms are available in Fiji, Rarotonga and Samoa. I didn't see any mention if they are or are not available in Tuvalu, so I'm guessing no, but not sure. In Samoa, he notes that king rooms are available every other room on the first and third floors, facing the east pool, so that's quite a few rooms in that building. Maybe that's why I got my requests for king room, Samoa, third floor? The room was great, so large with only the king bed (well there was a day bed too, but with only me and DH we didn't use that as a bed). But you're right, a request is just a request, no guarantee.

I thought the latest rumors about Poly DVC were Studios in the Longhouses and 3BD Grand Villas in the new beach buildings--no 1BD or 2BD villas.
