True, but part of growing up is thinking for yourself. I'll go to my dad for advice, but I make up my mind myself. I love my dad & he's one of the smartest guys on the planet (& the nicest), but we each have our own opinions on things.

Exactly...I'm not saying the OP is right or wrong. But it IS undersandable to me...I didn't read all of the responses it the original post.

But the OP shouldn't be made to feel stupid...which is how I would feel reading some of these responses.

Just got off the phone with my brother. He was at the White House yesterday afternoon/evening for the Project Ride (Wounded Warrior) http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press...lcoming-wounded-warrior-projects-soldier-ride. (My brother really was there - not made up)

He said he ran into Osama while using one of the non-public private bathrooms. Apparently he is NOT 6'5" but is really only 6'4". He was completely disgusted by the chance meeting as Osama did NOT wash his hands after using the toilet.

So therefore I try to learn as much as possible so I can contribute to "dry" conversations. Do I know everything? No. But I try to stay current.

But OP, seriously, read the paper each day. Every. Day. Learn about the world. Form some opinions. You can ask others for theirs, but don't make them yours. Trust me, you're doing yourself some good this way.

I agree...My opinion could hurt someone's feelings too. I'm a bit blown away but I don't know how to say what I think without being mean. This thread is sort of a strike 3 to me.

No one is saying she needs to be a political scientist. But it is extraordinarily sad when someone can't even make up their own minds about the issues that affect our country. Questioning is good. What is not good is the inability to form an opinion based on facts given you and rather, decide what you believe in because someone tells you to believe in it, and then change your mind because someone then tells you to believe something else.

Every single citizen should have some working knowledge of our government and the issues surrounding it.

There's nothing wrong though with having a grasp on basic politics and other current events. On another thread the OP posted this;
