ELVIS IS NOT DEAD - take that back.

I saw him last fall singing at my mil's condo with a bunch of old women swooning.

you take that back right now:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

:rotfl::rotfl: And I've seen multiple pics of him at the Sizzler and the buffets in Vegas.

I can't remember who but someone asked what it would take my parents to believe it. I don't know, I didn't think to ask them that question when I was talking to them about it.
I would assume the photo, but to me that doesn't prove anything because photos can be pjotoshopped and stuff.
Oh well. I'm not going to think about it anymore because otherwise I will just keep going back and forth on what to believe.
I asked you and I asked my husband and stepson and you guys all think he is dead and so do they so I'm just gonna go with that. My parents are the only ones I've heard say they didn't believe it. So they're out voted.

Editing in to say to the above poster. I Did used to try to do that but I usually just confused the issues so then when I'd talk to someone about it, I'd end up looking dumb anyway because I mixed-up the issue with another issue. Current event stuff that's political is so boring and it's so hard to remember it all. Not my thing!

Politics isn't for everyone, don't let anyone make you feel dumb just because you don't understand it. Everyone can get confused in dealing with it, plus you hear so much mis-information, there is every reason to question what you hear, and never know what to believe. (Not including OBL death, but on day to day issues.)

Should have known you show up trying to take advantage of a pretty girl. :rotfl:

OP, I mean this sincerely. Put down the tabloids and get a subscription to the Wall Street Journal.

It is time to become a grown-up and educate yourself about the world.

Don't rely on your husband, your parents or anyone else to determine your thoughts.

No one is saying she needs to be a political scientist. But it is extraordinarily sad when someone can't even make up their own minds about the issues that affect our country. Questioning is good. What is not good is the inability to form an opinion based on facts given you and rather, decide what you believe in because someone tells you to believe in it, and then change your mind because someone then tells you to believe something else.

Every single citizen should have some working knowledge of our government and the issues surrounding it.

Ideally yes, but some people aren't going to be able to do it, they shouldn't be ridiculed for it. Its just politics, yes its important, but its not the most important thing in the world. And she's pretty? :rolleyes1

I agree but as we see from skits on Jay Leno and other late night shows, when they go out and ask the average person on the street many cant name the VP or the Secretary of State. So sadly, I think there are many people like them and the OP out there.

Answers: Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton (did that all by myself, I didnt have to Google or anything;))

Why can't people get informed about how our government works? Will it interfere with reading "People"? Posting on message boards? I'm not saying they need to go out and get a political science degree. Just get some grasp of things.

If the OP did it, then maybe people would be more willing to hold a conversation with her.

While I agree you should form your OWN opinions...NOTHING in politics is black and white.

I would like to think I am pretty well informed on our county's issues and I can't "make up my mind" half of the time.

PLUS...isn't politics basically all about believing something someone is telling you to? :confused3

Wow...snarky!

FYI...People does infact include political pieces...heck even Cosmo does occasionally!

Good grief. And if you can't make up your mind, fine. There is nothing wrong with saying you don't have an opinion on an issue. But no one should ever say they believe something because they were told to believe it. For example, the OP was willing to believe OBL is not dead because her parents told her so. Not good and dangerous.

You know, I always ask myself 2 questions with anything political . Why are we doing this? and How will we get it done? I look for all opinions on these 2 questions and that usually leads me to my opinion. That is how I started learning.

I get what you're saying...If it were the OP's cowroker or friend saying these things I would totally agree. But a LOT of people take a lot of stock in what their parents think.

True, but part of growing up is thinking for yourself. I'll go to my dad for advice, but I make up my mind myself. I love my dad & he's one of the smartest guys on the planet (& the nicest), but we each have our own opinions on things.

There's nothing wrong though with having a grasp on basic politics and other current events. On another thread the OP posted this;

Maybe if she read up on things she could converse with the neighbors and become friends. She's 29, she really should be able to carry on an adult conversation that doesn't revolve around Justin Beiber and Beverly Hills 90210 (the new one, not the old one).
