It has been suggested that 'many' feel that OKW is the only true DVC resort.

I'm just interested in seeing how 'many' this is... :)

Personally, I find ALL the resorts 'true' DVC resorts, whether I happen to own there or not.

oops, could a moderator fix my spelling of OKW in the Poll question? Thanks

Actually, I've only seen one poster make this statement, albiet it's repeated ad nauseum....

All resorts are special in thier own way, and have advantages and disadvantages over the others.

I wouldn't call it the only "true" DVC resort. It is the only one that isn't attached to an existing hotel. That doesn't mean that it's restricted to DVC members, because the rooms can be booked through CRO like any other Disney resort.

I suppose that, because it is the first DVC property and the only DVC property that wasn't added on to an existing resort (okay, Boardwalk wasn't added on, it was planned to be attached to the Boardwalk Inn) , it could be said that OKW is able to do much more to market itself as a DVC resort (logos and references to DVC everywhere, no shared resort facilities, the "member photo gallery," etc.) I don't think that makes it the only "true" DVC resort.

Each DVC resort has its own special characteristics, so no OKW is not the only true DVC resort. I think each one is a great facility, and it is wonderful to have so many choices among the different resorts. Which I could do each one every year!

I would have to agree with everyone who posted above..

DVC makes all of the resorts special...

To say that any one is the only true resort is closing your mind to all the other wonderful options out there.

OKW is the only true WDW Disney Vacation "Condo", all the rest are true "deluxe" Disney Vacation Club resorts that not only have beautiful spacious villa accomendations but also have FULL deluxe resort amenities, are located on prime real estate at WDW are within walking distance or a boat ride away to parks,& restaurants, have themed pools with water slides and life guards, night time entertainment, etc., etc., etc.

I have to vote 'no', I agree completely, each resort is special in its own way.

I don't even remember who it was, but a long time ago, someone got real angry and flew off the handle, they kept saying "yeah, right, all this garbage about OKW being the only 'real' DVC resort.

I don't remember who that was, but I thought it was funny and use it often, pretty much as a goof....albeit, I am probably the only one who remembers.

What I want to know is who are the other 4 people besides Richyams who said Yes??

As an on-site resort, OKW is unique in that it is entirely DVC,located in it's own area. With the exception of renters, trades or cash, the vast majority of those who stay are members. I also own at VWL and BCV and love both, but staying at OKW has a different "feel". Hard to put into words.

OKW is the original DVC resort, but they all are special and as far as I can tell are each different.

I view it more as "would DVC be what it is today without the success of OKW?" Let's face it, a lot was riding on the response to OKW.

The off-site resorts are lovely, but it ended with HH and VB. Had OKW been as slow to sell as either of those resorts, it's extremely unlikely that BWV, VWL or BCV would have been built.

Is it the "true" DVC resort? In these terms, yes it is. While each resort has it's plus and minuses, only OKW has the distinction of being the one that started it all.

Although OKW is my home resort, I certainly would not have any objections to staying at any of the other DVC resorts, even if they were "fake".

Having stayed at all of the DVC resorts, I have found something unique and special at each one. I'm glad to have stayed at each one and will enjoy staying at each again.

OKW is the only resort whose original name was The Disney Vacation Club Resort, however.

Hi.

I would just like to recognize all the "Charter Members" of the Disney Vacation Club. Ie: those who purchased Old Key West in the beginning. You had faith in the concept. And what a wonderful concept it is for all of us to enjoy.

To get into a discussion of mine is this and yours is that waters down the whole enjoyment of Disney. Isn't it safe to say that we all like different things but have a common interest in the Disney experience?

I know this forum encourages different opinions but this thread seems a bit argumentative at the outset.

good point about VB and HH, but I tend not to count anything that isn't at WDW!

OKW has been my home resort since 1994 when we purchased DVC. I do love it for its uniqueness and down home confort. It just feel right. We remember when we use to call it DVC not OKW! That said, we have stayed at BWV and are trying BCV this June and still feel like "home" when we arrive. We enjoyed 5 trips to HHI before we finally did an add-on in Fall 2002. What I'm trying to say is DVC is great anywhere. OKW will always be special to me because it was first.

PS Hi Tagrel..nice to see you here!

As an OKW owner, I agree with Rich, but the poll was phrased a bit incorrectly.

It would be if the Queen of England wrote:

Prince Charles is the one true heir to the throne.

Princes Edward and Andrew and Princess Anne are lovely children.

Both of these are true in her mind. (Maybe not in ours, but we are not the mother of these four.)

Not quite either or.

How about:

OKW is the one true DVC resort.

There is no one true DVC resort.

I think you get the most enjoyment out of DVC if you take advantage of the many different opportunities we now have. I may favor some over others but I love them all!
