Is new coaster what Universal needs???

I agree with the 2nd part, but it's the 1st part that is just my point. Universal already has the thrill seeking audience. I would think (and maybe I'm wrong) that they would want to broaden their base a bit and bring in some family rides. No one's saying they need It's A Small World, but they could do a family thrill ride, along the lines of Thunder Mountain or Test Track. I just don't see how brining in another pee-your-pants coaster is going to increase the crowds.
I was talking about the thrill seekers at Disney who refuse to go to Universal because of their allegiance to the mouse. I think there are plenty of people who visit Disney and want to come to Universal for more of an edgy ride experience but either can't or won't. RRR will be the most technologically advanced coaster anywhere around here and it might just get some new people to wander over. I think The Simpsons ride will appeal more to the families so they have that covered too.

Is the Simpsons ride supposed to be a simulator? If so, they can keep it. Bleh. Enough of those already.

Yes...it's supposed to be a simulator. Come on now...give it a shot. You might actually enjoy it.

I'm really looking forward to the new Simpson's ride, as well as the HP area in IOA. I think it's great that Universal is looking outside the box to bring in a new thrill ride that is not based on a specific movie. I'm not sure if I'll have the nerve to ride it but it does help fill the niche that IOA started with the Hulk. I do think it would be nice to see other rides that may not be as thrilling, but still equally exciting as well. It's definitely a great place to start though! I look forward to seeing it completed.

You're going to get a different response from everyone you ask. See, I'm a non-heavy-thrill seeker, and I can't do Mummy or TOT. I can barely handle Test Track and Thunder Mountain and Dinosaur at WDW parks. Rides with big drops or simulators, forget about it. I'm sick for a week.

So even within our own subgroups of "self-proclaimed non-heavy-thrill-seekers," there is a difference of opinion.

I asked my family about the new coaster. We're all theme park junkies and all have different comfort levels about rides. All of us enjoy quality theme park vacations, tho.

DH is the thrill rider. He's ecstatic Universal is getting a "real coaster."

I'm in the subgroup as OP, but even to a lesser extent. I'm still bummed Universal took out King Kong! It's all about nostalgia for me. I like walking around a theme park I was taken to as a child -- or at least looking at theming and rides that remind me of things as a kid, i.e., Jaws, King Kong, even T-2.

My mom thinks the parks are getting to the point where they're making you walk too much, lol! She prefers USO over WDW parks now, but she HATES how much you have to walk with the garages and floating sidewalks. She's wondering if the coaster will take you from Universal to Citywalk and drop you off. And she is a retired thrill junkie. High blood pressure and a bad back have made her give up the "heavy" thrill rides. Her perfect Universal day is starting with Shrek, heading to Finnegan's for a Harp, doing Twister, back to Shrek, more Harp, back to Twister ... over and over. So her hope for anything new in the parks involve less walking and more good bars.

One thing we're all glad to see is more $$$ being invested in the parks. Everyone wins!

I'm probably coming from left field on this one, as a Universal lover, thrill ride non-participant. I've been visiting Universal every year for over 12 years now. While my grandmother worked at Disney World, she lived right across from Universal Studios so we always made a trip there when I would come and visit her. I love Jurassic Park..but you wouldn't catch me on The Incredible Hulk. I know that they are also putting out the Simpsons (awesome) and Harry Potter (even more awesome) so I believe the logic behind them right now is that the Simpsons and Harry Potter will be more catered to people like me, where as this roller coaster will be geared more towards those that run at the chance to go from 0 to 70 in 3 seconds flat.

Nope. Trying Universal, I had no problem with. I don't need any more simulators. Puke city.

With all this talk about new attractions, the one thing I wish Universal would build is a really nice miniature golf course in the resort somewhere.

I would love that!

Sounds good to me! I also think UO needs more family friendly nighttime entertainment. BMG was an awesome addition, but it would be nice if they added others. There's also the Luau, but that conflicts with our normal dining style. It would be great to have a nice dinner @ 8:30 then go to CW for family friendly after dinner entertainment. I always wished City Jazz would have PG13 comedy one night a week. Now that it's changing, it's even less likely they'll add something like that.

I'm not asking for them to start allowing preteens/ teens into the clubs. I just wish they'd offer entertainment at a different venue each night. That way the venues would be the same 6 nights out of 7. Adults would still have several options to avoid the younger crowd.

I suppose we are different from the avg. family visiting UO. We like to stay for at least 5 nights & never leave the property. The only thing we don't like about staying that long is that we typically have nothing to do after dinner. Teens don't go to bed early. As a family, we need something to do. I think more people would extend there UO stays, if they had more things to do at night. There's plenty to fill your days.

You can never have too many roller coasters! I think this is great news. Along with Harry Potter, I now have two new reasons to visit.

Sorry, I'm late to the party but..

WHAT NEW COASTER AT US???

This is the first I've heard of it. I love all coasters, what is this one going to like?
