You're going to get a different response from everyone you ask. See, I'm a non-heavy-thrill seeker, and I can't do Mummy or TOT. I can barely handle Test Track and Thunder Mountain and Dinosaur at WDW parks. Rides with big drops or simulators, forget about it. I'm sick for a week.
So even within our own subgroups of "self-proclaimed non-heavy-thrill-seekers," there is a difference of opinion.
I asked my family about the new coaster. We're all theme park junkies and all have different comfort levels about rides. All of us enjoy quality theme park vacations, tho.
DH is the thrill rider. He's ecstatic Universal is getting a "real coaster."
I'm in the subgroup as OP, but even to a lesser extent. I'm still bummed Universal took out King Kong! It's all about nostalgia for me. I like walking around a theme park I was taken to as a child -- or at least looking at theming and rides that remind me of things as a kid, i.e., Jaws, King Kong, even T-2.
My mom thinks the parks are getting to the point where they're making you walk too much, lol! She prefers USO over WDW parks now, but she HATES how much you have to walk with the garages and floating sidewalks. She's wondering if the coaster will take you from Universal to Citywalk and drop you off. And she is a retired thrill junkie. High blood pressure and a bad back have made her give up the "heavy" thrill rides. Her perfect Universal day is starting with Shrek, heading to Finnegan's for a Harp, doing Twister, back to Shrek, more Harp, back to Twister ... over and over. So her hope for anything new in the parks involve less walking and more good bars.
One thing we're all glad to see is more $$$ being invested in the parks. Everyone wins!
