Okay, I admit it. My dog is weird. She drinks out of the toilet! We have a bowl of water for her, but she refuses it. She drinks out of the toilet instead! Is my dog the only one? (Please say no, please say no!)

aww, go give him a big smooch on the lips :)

I'll be sure to do that right now! LOL. Pop Daddy - I had a feeling you'd be the first one who responded! :thumbsup2

::yes:: I do that all the time. It's the others in the family that don't put it down. I think it's about time they start.

OMG, too funny. I've tried everything to get my Lab to stop drinking out of the toilet. I've tried a zillion different bowls, change the water constantly....nothing works! I hate that he does this for a lot of reasons, but mainly b/c he drips water throughout my house after he slurps up all the water in the toilet  . Glad to know my buddy isn't the only one! :dogdance:

Lots of dogs do this!!! Okay, only one of mine will...sometimes.

Your dog may still be weird, but this isn't the reason! ;)

Oh, my big dog does it all the time. We call it her personal punch bowl. Many times I have to shoo her out of the way so I can use the toilet.

Our cat also sits on the toilet seat and drinks out of the toilet too. :dogdance: :cat:

Well, DisneyTraveler, if you come up with a solution to THAT...please Post back here and let us all know just HOW you did it!!!! Because I have THREE males in this house and I have GIVEN UP!!

We had a cat that used to drink out of the toilet but we now have a cat that sleeps ALL the time in the shower, whether it's dry or just been used. It's a weird cat but we love him! :teeth:

Aww! :)

My dog doesn't drink out of it, but he is obsessed with flushing. Loves, loves, loves to watch it. No one in my house goes potty without a doggie escort. paw:

Does anyone ever worry about their dogs drinking out of the toilet after they have recently been cleaned? We have a cleaning person come in every two weeks and the day they've been there, I try to remember to go around and close all of the lids. My dh doesn't think it would be a problem, but it worries me (but then again, if you'd ask my dh I worry way too much about a lot of things!).

Nance- I do too. We also have a cleaning lady that comes once a week. I've never really thought about it, but I guess you're right! I need to watch my dog!

Well I'm logging off! :wave2:

It's very common in larger dogs.

Winston sees them as his personal water bowl, though we try really hard to keep the lids down. Harley is too small to drink from it =)

All 3 of my dogs do it. I think they like the cool "fresh" water. The water in their bowls gets a hair or a piece of fuzz or sits for an hour and they won't drink out of it. I'm sure they would drink outside if they were desparate---then again, I'm not sure. We just make sure it is flushed--much more doable with 4 kids(3 boys) then getting them all to put the lid down. As far as the cleaning goes, I use a botanical disinfectant and even though I don't want them to drink it I feel much better with them being around it, even breathing it. With all the concern about Febreeze and those "ready mops" I don't even want them around my dogs, let alone my kids. I saw on TV an infomercial about how indoor dogs have more skin and hair problems. One thought is that they lay on the floors and are subject to everyday cleaners in the home. Not many people have thought about that with their kids have they?! It's been somewhat of an experiment but after just switching cleaners to ones without harsh toxins and staying away from grocery store brands our entire household has been very healthy. So healthy that I have not had to take ANY of the 4 kids to the doctor in 3 years!! (We did do school physicals/well-checkups--but that's it!) I have to say it has sure helped our immune systems. Not even a cold here!! OK--so I got off topic. Was it dogs we were talking about? Toilets? Gross but at least I'm not constantly filling water bowls!!!

I have a black cocker spaniel, and I don't think she is tall enough. But don't give her any ideas! ;) I have seen plenty of dogs do this in my lifetime. Just remember to keep those potties flushed :)

Don't feel too bad....my cat used to drink out of the sink! She was finally broken of it for a while after I got married and moved with her out of my parent's house. However, when we stayed with them during one of the hurricanes a couple of years ago, she remembered that she liked to drink from the sink. It took another couple of months of piling things on the bathroom counters to make her forget again. I'm looking over my shoulder as I'm typing this to make sure she can't see the screen so as not to remind her about her beloved sink... :tiptoe: :ssst:
