My DH is not working right now, so he has been doing most of the cooking. After using the crock pot he immersed the electric base. Not so much immersed, as filled with soap and water.

Its been drying for a couple weeks, but I am scared to use it again. Is it ruined? Is it safe to use? Anyone else have any experiences with this?

Thank you in advance!

I definitely would not use it again and would be out buying a new one. Sounds too risky to me. Sorry that happened. :(

Filled the inside of it with soap and water? I used to have a crockpot in which the interior part did not come out so you had to fill it with soapy water to get it clean. If that is what happened, no big deal, but if the cord was involved in anyway, I would be scared to use it.

that's a bummer. Too bad it's not closer to Thanksgiving, you could get one cheap!!

if it the old kind with out removable crockery and he filled the crockery with soap and water no harm done. if he removed the crockery liner and filled the metal base with soapy water-i would be getting a new crock pot.

You can slow cook in your oven in a dutch oven or large glass bowl/pan. I hate cleaning my crock pot so I cook this way.

Reynolds puts out "Slow Cooker Bags" so you can line your crock pot before cooking and you won't have a mess afterwards.

I've had my crock pot for 2 years and have yet to use it!!! It would probably be so easy (and relaxing!) to use it for a Sunday meal but I just haven't gotten around to using it yet. I work all day and 2 nights a week and I just can't "trust" leaving something plugged in and running all day. I would be a nervous wreck!
