Is Mineral Makeup "Addicting"?

I ordered the Sheer Cover off of Home Shopping Network. They don't always have it so you have to keep checking.

Ulta carried it (just the starter kits) for a short time around Christmas but it is no longer there. I guess I will have to get it on-line. I really like their concealer.

HSN is showing it available in only a dark shade, yet the picture looks like its a split type shade. Ebay (search words: "sheer cover concealer") is showing the concealer as either a light/med or dark/tan combination. Christine or anyone else using this product, can you confirm if this concealer is supposed to be a split tones? Is the stuff on Ebay the concealer you've been referring to? I'm hesitant to order until I have some sort of confirmation that I'm looking at the right thing.

O.k. are any of you asian or have olive tone skin? Which shade/color should I get? And since warmer weather is coming and my face, arms, and legs will get naturally darker, should I compensate with a darker color to balance things out?

I'm super interested in this thread. Glad to see that DISers use these powder products too. I put on my foundation yesterday and it looked like I could see all the natural cracks in my face! It was gross! I was not happy. Maybe I need a good buffing, exfoliating, or some thing!

So, are there a travel sizes of any of the products mentioned? I'll be cruising in Sept. and I don't want to lug full size powders around while on vacation.

So, what about when its hot outside? My face gets oily, my makeup melts, and oh ya, we have humidity pretty much all summer long. Am I going to have to do 'touch ups'?

Another question, so what do I search for finding a store close to me. Either of the products is fine Bare Ess. PHys. and what ever Bare MIn. I'm at the trying out stage so I think any of the products would be fine to just test out.

Gosh, I really need to read this thread more!

I'll litsen to you ladies over any infomercial. Are there any Hoosiers on this thread?

OK let me see what I can do to help -

There are several shades depending on just how dark or olive you are so you may want to go to either the QVC site or bareescentuals.com and see if you can match it up. If you are off a shade or so, it is very forgiving and you won't hardly notice it. Some women end up blending two together anyway so it is personal satisfaction. I do buy a darker share for when I an tan - not a lot different but enough.

The closest thing to travel sizes is the QVC try me - just back in stock A53093.

I live in MI - on Lake Huron and there is lots of summer humidity. As long as my face is cool and dry why I apply it is seems to stay all day. IF I wipe sweat - sounds so feminine doesn't it - off my face the makeup will come off but I have never noticed streaking or melting on its own. If you do touchups, be sure you are cool and dry first.

To find a location near you, go to Bareescentuals.com and click on your state.

Also - tomorrow is Bare Escentuals day on QVC - no todays special value but 6 hours of show. 3-5am; 9-11 am and 6-8pm sll times EST.

I have a few questions. My kit came with the "handy buki" brush. Should I get the baby buki brush also? It looks like it might be bigger. I need to use the buki to cover up my redness and acne marks.

The basic difference between the two brushes you mentioned is the handle. I think otherwise they are about the same size. The regular buki brush is much larger and is good for foundation.

I am also having trouble with the eyeliner. No matter how well I tap the brush, it seems that some of the minerals fall out onto my face, and then I have to redo the makeup in that area. I don't have time for that in the morning, so I've gone back to my regular eyliner during the week until I can figure out how to best apply the liner. Any ideas?

Try using the eyeliner wet instead of dry. Just dampen the brush, dip it and mix it in the lid. A little will go a long way.

Finally, I am still looking for that perfect undereye dark circle concealer. If anyone has a suggestion, let me know.

Anything with some yellow in it is a good concealer - try well rested or bisque.

Don't forget to watch QVC tomorrow if you can. Its people like us that call in too so you get lots of good ideas and helpful hints along with the testimonials.

I've been a BE gal for 4 years now and don't look back.

Yes, it is two colors. It is called "Duo" Concealer. I have the the light/medium. I like it because it blends into the skin well. I used a new concealer this weekend and I had to rub to hard to get it to smooth out. This stuff is very blendable.

Does anyone know anything about the greens, browns, and plums collections? I see them on QVC. Are there any recommendations as to how to choose a collection? I have brown hair and brown eyes and use Fairly Light Foundation.

If you are talking about the wearable greens, wearable browns and wearable wines - here is my $0.02 worth. (I am a dirty blond, hazel eyes and medium foundation)

I love the wearable greens. They are wonderful. They are soft, not over the top.

I haven't tried the wearable browns, but I don't like brown eyeshadow.

I hated the wearable wines - I thought the colors were way too over the top. I like more subtle eye color and these were not subtle at all. I sent them back.

Hope that helps.

I just found your forum a couple of weeks ago! I'm fairly new to Bare Escentuals, and I LOVE IT! My morning routine does take me a bit longer though. I bought several new products from the BE store at the Florida Mall when I was in Orlando last week, and orded a couple more things from another online source, tonite. Before long, I'm going to need a large case to store it!

I am planning on visiting this store next month when we head to Disney. I have actually moved our trip up a day just so I have time to go visit the BE store at the mall. Did you enjoy the experience there? Was it high pressure?

I still get acne but it is the scarring that most bothers me. Like others I can NOT stand the way foundation feels on my skin so I am really looking foreward to trying this product. I have considered purchasing on line but I have no idea what color I need and I don't want to mess with returing it if I choose wrongly.

I am almost as excited about the visit to the mall as I am my visit to Disney! ;)

Thank you figment52. I'll try and watch QVC tomorrow. It was my grandma's favorite channel. I think it was Lovethatmouse that asked, what would happen to your face if you went on Splash Mtn.... after reading all 16 pages, I think I've come up w/ my own conclusion as to what might happen. I've got websites earmarked thanks to you ladies and I look forward to possibly making my first purchase. Good idea about using the sample kit as a travel kit. I'll have to do research to find if anyone the BM/ BE line.

I'm still curious about the possible cakeing. I'm a natural worry wart (the eeyore in me)

Thanks taeja71- I couldn't figure out how to do what you just did to my response.

As for your final comment about caking - I have tried to pile it on to get that feeling and I can't. It just doesn't give the Tammy Faye layered look!!

taeja71:

I wouldn't bother with travel sizes. The full size product comes in tiny containers... much much smaller than you would see a regular powder in.

I did like the store very much. They were not at all high pressure. This past trip I went on a Monday, they weren't too busy to help with choosing the right colors for me. On a previous trip I went on a weekend day and they were crazy busy. Keep that in mind when you go.

I like that they have everything out on trays so that you can try what you want. Have fun!

No problem, I just had to cut and paste the quote marks around some more.

:lmao: that's so funny.

O.k. all, I came up with more questions. (A) For those who have used BE/BM/FF for a while, how long did it take you to empty a container? I know each of you use different amts., but I'd like a ball park average of how fast you use your stuff. (B)Fess up- How many containers/ colors/ foudations/etc. do you have/ own?????

I had unsubscribed to this thread, but decided to check in today and found this! I'm so glad you are loving BE and have checked out the forum! It's a busy place, but not as busy at DIS! LOL

I've been using Bare Minerals for 3 years. In January I started my second tub of Warmth. So, that lasted me just slightly less than 3 years. That was the smaller container too. My second containter is bigger, so I know I'll have that even longer.

As far as foundation, I've gone through the two smaller containers they give you with the starter kit. And I believe I got an auto-shipment a few months later. So that's another 2. I've bought two bigger containers but haven't even used half of either of them. I don't know, I would say I use one container a year.

I have several eyeshadows and if they have a dent in them it's because they were spilled. :rotfl: Seriously, the eyeshadows last so long. I'm planning on ordering samples and just using those rather than paying more money for a product I know I will never use the whole thing.

Okay... I took the PLUNGE!

Two of my coworkers use it and both told me of the imperfections they have in their skin... I NEVER SAW ANY OF IT! One had rosacea, the other has blotchiness, all I saw was perfect skin... I don't have any real problems with the skin but would like to see how it would work on mine, anyway.

I was buying my son some sneakers for our upcoming Orlando trip when I realized the DSW store we were in was right next door to an Ulta. I've always been curious about this makeup so I went to get some info.

The lady made up half of my face ... I was shocked. I had NEVER found a foundation that matched my face that perfectly. NEVER! In fact, I don't wear it for that reason. I'm 50, just turned it last weekend, and never used foundation.... can you believe it? When she was finished I had so many people compliment me, I was truly impressed. I looked like me, just more PERFECT!! :teeth:

I bought the kit, TAN, and watched the dvd last night. I swirled, tapped and buffed to the same perfection the expert did this morning. It's so light and comfortable, and it's amazing what it did for my confidence!

Thanks for this thread, ladies! I join you all in my new found "addiction"! :cheer2:

I know exactly the DSW/Ulta you were at!! Did you know there is a BE Boutique less than a mile away at Lenox Mall?? They are wonderful there, and for every $10 you spend, you get a punch on your card and get $10 off when you reach $120!! Plus you can get samples of colors you want to try.

The original Bare Escentuals/Bare Minerals was marketed to dermatologists for their patients with sensative skin, acne, skin cancer and cosmetic surgery. That was about 20 years ago (maybe longer).

Actually this year is the 30th Anniversary of BE! It was started in 1976.

figment52 said:
Even then, it doesn't streak but if I wipe the sweat off my face, the minerals do come off. I can't say enough good things about BE.

Don't wipe - pat your sweat. If you pat, you won't wipe off the minerals.

QVC is presenting Bare Escentuals today. Did anyone watch? Did anyone purchase anything?

Being new to BE, I was overwhelmed by all the items offered. I'm debating on the collection Meet the Browns, but I'm not sure if this would be beneficial to me. I am fair with blue eyes. Generally browns will work on me, if they're not too heavy looking. However, being older, my eyes are getting more and more "hooded" as the upper eye skin droops . I'm not sure you'd see any of the eyeshadow. Does anyone have this problem with their eyes also?
