I'm considering a DVC purchase and remember hearing about this a while ago. Is is still available and how does it work? I have two rooms booked on FTP in late Sept. If I wanted to purchase while I'm there, could I apply the cost of the FTP to my purchase? Or would I be better off looking for a resale purchase?

Thanks!
Terri

They are currently offering a credit for purchasing SSR. It is a $10 credit but it is not called MB-because you don't have to sell the first year's points back.

If you are seriously considering buying I would call and find out what is available. There may be points available at the other resorts that offer MB but there is no way to know unless you check. Availability of those pts if going fast.

Are you paying a huge amount for your FTP? Are you staying at a DVC property?

I suppose there could be chance that you could buy into DVC and still find availability for September but you would have to cancel your FTP and apply that money to DVC. I'm sure DVC would be able to tell you exactly what you should do.

My guide, Jim McCoy, is working today until 9pm. His number is 1-800-827-7140, if you want to give him a call.

He should be able to advise you on whether you should purchase now and change your FTP or just wait until you are at WDW.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do and let us know how it all turns out.

I remembered reading a thread here a while ago about a couple who wanted to go to WDW and use their reservation and buy into DVC. The guide told them something about being able to get their reservation converted to pts once they were down there.

It's definately worth it to find out if it can be done.

I wonder if you would still be able to use MB, though.

Sorry I sound confused. You bring up some good points that I'm not really sure how to answer. :D

An early version of MB did allow guests to apply their current on-site stay costs to their downpayment for DVC (up to $1500), but that incentive ended long ago.

The present MB program does not include SSR (it has it's own incentive discount). The DVC guides can be quite creative however and may be able to convert points purchased to "pay" for a current stay. That may not be the best use of points, so be sure to do the math for what the real cost will be- especially if you have a discounted cash rate for the trip.

Enjoy!

I'm going to check it out and I'll let you know how it turns out.

SSR does have an incentive of "Developer Points" which may be used for reservations until the end of April, 2004. This is available in lieu of the $10 discount, so if you would choose the "Developer Points" you would pay $89 per point.

The "Developer Points" might be able to be used to "pay" for your current stay- with the assistance of your DVC guide.

Good Luck!
