My boyrfriend and I are planning a trip to WDW for next September/October. We are planning on staying at the poly and right now I want to call and book the room just to be safe for reservations but I'm torn on whether Lagoon View is really worth the extra $874.00 (for 8 nights)

What do you think? Splurge and spend the extra $900 or go with Garden view and save that money for something else for the trip?

Hi there!

Only you can decide if lagoon view is worth it or not. But you might want to take a look at my lagoon view pictures from our trip last month to help you decide. :)

There's a link my signature to my family vacations web site. Click on that, then just scroll down a little to the Polynesian resort link. Enjoy! :)

P.S. Even if you don't go with a lagoon view room, the grounds of the Polynesian are beautiful, you'll be happy either way :flower:

I agree that only you can decide if you want to spend the extra money. However, we have stayed at the Poly twice, and there are some rooms that have nooce views that are considered garden view. We had a room in Figi and overlokked the marina, and we could see the Contemporary Resort and the monorail going through it. Some of the rooms looked out at the beach facing Grand Floridian. The big difference is that you cannot see the catsle from your room.

The other thing is we were not in our room that much, because we were are the go, so for us it was worth saving the extra dollars and having a few extra meals at some of the places we wanted to eat at.

See this is why I'm having such a hard time with this. I've stayed at the Poly several times in the past with my family and I would say from my past experience that there probably isn't a bad room in the entire resort.

This is my BF's first time staying there and we want to make it very special and romantic. As much as I would love to have a lagoon view room, I am thinking that garden view would suffice since we won't be spending all that much time in the room anyway (much like the other poster said) and that money could be spent on something else like a nice dinner or wishes cruise or something more special.

And - even though I would never ever bank on this, I guess there's always a minimal chance for an upgrade right? Probably not likely but possible I suppose - maybe if I tell CM really nice at check in that the trip is our bday gifts to each other (we are going right in between both of our birthdays in lieu of gifts) they'd have some compassion?!! haha

thanks for the tips so far - I'm going to check out those pics right away! Thanks!

For me, no, not worth it. Since there are no bad views at Poly it's not worth it when I can walk outside and have the same view for free. For me it's just as romantic to walk along the beech (espeically the Tahiti one) for the view as it would be from a balcony.

$900 is such a huge amount of money that, no, I don't think it's worth it. You can walk around the property to enjoy the lagoon view.

Unless you're going to spend a lot of time in your room enjoying the view, it's probably not worth the extra cost, but only you can decide that. I personally would add a couple of extra days for that amount, not the view.

We paid for a garden view, and got 3rd floor in Raratonga overlooking the quiet pool. Very nice view, and was not considered a water view. We also were extremely close to the Great Ceremonial House, monorail and Volcano Pool.

I w ould take some of that $900. and have a romantic dinner at V&A or somewhere else really nice. That's a lot of money for a view every now and then.

I am starting to agree with most of you. As many times as I've been to the Poly before, I can't remember a time that my family absolutely HAD to have a lagoon view room. I mean, I think that the view is great but most of you are right, how much time am I really going to spend "in" the room for the view? We're both pretty active so we don't spend a lot of time inside. I think I might just go with garden view and use that money elsewhere!

Still pondering but now leaning more towards the garden view instead.

Thanks everyone for all of your opinions!

there usually isn't a big difference in price between regular lagoon view and garden view Concierge. If I was going to spend the $$$ I'd go for concierge to really treat myself.

I travel a lot and no matter where I am I never think it's worth paying very much extra for a room with a view. Actually I probably would never pay ANYTHING extra for a view. If I did, I'd feel like I had to stay in the room to keep lookin' out the window. :) Just not where I choose to spend my $$$$. My mantra is that I'd rather have the worst room in a great hotel than the best room at a mediocre hotel. Besides, sometimes it works out that you get a good view without the premium price!

I agree with you CCW.

Our first stay was the Poly with a Lagoon View. What we found out was when we were in the room, the curtains were closed because we were on the ground level either changing or sleeping. When the curtains were open, we weren't there. It is a very nice option, but I'd rather use the money on other things for the little time I would actually use the view.

Have fun!!

It's a tough decision that I find comes down to a certain feeling that you have about your trip. It's kind of an undefinable feeling. If it makes you feel good (like you're splurging or celebrating) to have a lagoon view room, than maybe that feeling alone is worth the money. If it doesn't make you feel any more excited, etc. than maybe it's not worth it.

All I know is this ... lagoon views from the Polynesian are some of the best views on Disney property ... period. That being said, most of us spend our time outside of our rooms. I, personally feel more anticipation knowing I have a lagoon view room, even though I don't spend 24/7 staring out my window. It comes down to this: how much do you value that 'feeling' of knowing you've got a great view, even if you don't use it as much as you'd think???

It's up to you....

Good luck.. have a great trip.

If you're planning to lock yourself into your room for eight days, by all means, go for it! :)

Otherwise, it's probably not of much importance in the grand scheme of things. Meander around the property if you're in need for lagoon views. If you're looking to splurge in your accommodations, I'd back My2Cinderellas's recommendation of booking a concierge level room.

Most of the time we don't spend the extra money on a view since the majority of the time you are somewhere doing other activities.

Why don't you make a list of all of things you could do at WDW that you otherwise couldn't think about doing if the money went towards a view that you most likely can walk over to and take a pictire of.

Then the value of the view may become a little clearer.
