WE are going on a trip feb 5-7th and again in december for4 days and I heard you get a discount on rooms. Is this true and if so what is the rate?

it's not worth it for that few days. I think the break even point is like 13 days or something.

The rates VARY as per time of your visit.

The number of rooms that are actually available at discount rates vary as well.

But if you can GET them, the savings can make the price of the AP!!

We are going down to WDW next week for 10 nights and 11 days.
I made my room ressies using my AP number and am staying on-property at the ALL STAR SPORTS for $49.00 a night (plus tax).

That means we are paying, for two adults in the room, for 10 nights, a grand total of right at $550.

Now THAT's about as cheap as we will EVER get to pay at a WDW resort ever again!

With low Southwest Airlines fares (about $100 each way, per) and our AP's which we will have used for three trips (31 days total in WDW parks) its ALMOST cheaper to go to WDW than stay HOME (well, ALMOST). ;)

I'd say we did OK for the AP "investment".

As to how much YOU can save on a room in a given month (or even IF you can GET one at a discount) depends on several factors, but (as I said)
I have had 3 WDW trips over the last 12 months and gotten a low-price on the room each time.

This past year, we were there for five days and then six days, and having the AP was less money than buying the regular passes. We were also able to buy the DDE card, which saves 20% on most Disney TS including alcohol.

In your case, I am not sure it is worth it. I think the magic number is at least 10 days. You could always extend your trips :)

And you can get the DDE card. Saved with family of 10 in May over $600.

csgsu, where are you staying Feb 5-7. I just checked and AP room only room rates are still available at some of the WDW resorts for that period of time. Let me know where you are staying this Feb. and when are you going in Dec. The AP rates aren't out for Dec yet, but your dates will give us idea of the chance for a discount. I'll get some figures for the Feb trip.

Getting an AP may be worth it but there seems to be a strange effect on people when they get one. Suddenly they start looking at any long weekend as a chance to go to Disney. Then they start buying plane tickets because they are cheap and they have tickets. Then there are comments about finding ways to move down to Florida to be closer to WDW. So when all these added costs are included, it may not be cheaper. ;)

I usually try to figure what I'm going to spend for a room, then figure what I will spend for a room with an AP rate. I went in August and then again in Dec and stayed at Pop. I think that I saved about $15 a night using my AP. Now, I did have a total of about 28 days on my AP, so I buy it for that, rather than the discount on room. If you are going to be in the parks less than 10 days, it might not be worth it. And the others are so right...once you get an AP, you start saying..."Hey, great airfare, and I can grab a room for $60 a night. My passes are paid for..let's go to WDW again!" It tends to not be such a great money saving tool!!!
